Mentor explanation for console users (Xbox and PS4)

Hi!

I'm a player of WOT on Xbox One and I also try to contribute to the community, recently I've made an extensive Excel explaining how the mentor skill works on console, I would like you to add it to the official wiki (obviously pointing out the fact that it refers to console), but first I have to be sure I don't have errors.

I've contacted support but they told me to contact you, "However, please be advised that we at support do not handle anything regarding our wiki page. It is managed by our official wiki administrators. You may want to share your knowledge to them, and once they receive it and review it for further consideration, they will be more than happy to have it posted."

Can you please check my Excel file and see if everything is ok, I would really appreciate it:

Adding description WoWs EN WIKI August2016

Hello,

I have in my possession translated descriptions of the Russian wiki, for this chapter :

Fault Line This map is modelled after the most northern regions of the Pacific Ocean, where the US Navy patrolled the seas in protection of United States borders. It features small islands separated by narrow straits circling the center of the map and large areas of open ocean near the borders, which makes it suitable for every class of ships.

Trap This map showcases a group of islands of strategic importance located in the Pacific Ocean Theater of Operations. According to stories, intense battles between the US Navy and Imperial Japanese Navy fleets took place between these rocky tropical islands and the large central atoll.

Two Brothers This map showcases a small archipelago resembling the north-western British coast. The distinctive feature of this map is its two large islands separated by a narrow strait.

Strait Modeled after the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, this map will see players fight off the coast of Italy, where the Royal Navy heroically defended Malta against heavy forces by using carrier-based aircraft only.

Solomon Islands This map is modeled after the eponymous archipelago located in the south-western Pacific Ocean. From August 1942 and during six months, these islands saw unfold one of the key campaigns that took place in the Pacific Ocean - the Battle of Guadalcanal.

The translator is not me, obviously, he asks me to do it corrected by a native English. Does it seems right to you for the English wiki? --GASOVER:eu (talk) 12:52, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

French translation

Hi,

I am currently working on wiki french translation. But I had some troubles with a section you made for WoT homepage. It is about Online Players section. I do not understand why on en version it is working but not in fr, in fact data loading does not stop, so we are not able to see how many players are online but only a loading picture.

Can you help me to solve this problem ?

Thank You --synops229:eu (talk) 14:31, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi! The online players box works through the WG.net API with JavaScript. The script is implemented in the special wiki page MediaWiki:Common.js, which isn't updated yet for the FR wiki. I'll go ahead and add that snippet in for the FR wiki.
Feel free to contact me if you need any assistance!
--Haswell:na (talk) 01:15, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for that !
My other question is : are widgets editables ? I want to solve home page's visual issues, for exemple, I want to reduce space between each flags to prevent horizontal scroll such as russian home page. Thank you again for your help.
Edit : I just solved this issue by editing manualy. But editing widget will be easier next time. --synops229:eu (talk) 12:30, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Editing the widgets directly is not possible right now, as they are hard-coded by WG with very limited options for customization. Perhaps they might be improved in the future, but I don't have high hopes. --Haswell:na (talk) 06:11, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Ok, but you were able to edit common.js file, is it possible to do the same on css file ? I am webdev and designer so i am able to code in css easily in order to solve a lot of troubles. It is very frustrating to start something but not ending it. Are you an WG staff member ? Or a kind of community contributor ? I am not able to translate all the wiki alone, but with more rights I would be able to reorganize a lot of things. In fact, I do not understand why French wiki was completely abandoned.
I want to attract people to play WoT, and a good wiki could be helpfull for new players. Today, my goal is to translate existing pages, but tomorrow I hope, people will be able to do some other stuff, such as comparing tanks each other for exemple, which is not very hard to design, in the past I already done such stuff for a personnal project, but as I said, it is an exemple, there are so many things to do.
By the way, thank you ! synops229:eu (talk) 17:04, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

I'm not a WG employee unfortunately, I'm just someone who ended up having to take care of the wiki after everyone else left. The French wiki wasn't really "abandoned", it's that nobody was ever around to manage it from the beginning. I only set the FR wiki to be visible when WGEU expressed their interest for translations last year, but it never got anywhere until earlier this month. Tanatoy is currently working on requesting more support from WG's webdev team, you might want to contact him for more information about plans for the FR wiki.

I'll add you to the sysops usergroup, that way you will have full front-end administrative rights to edit common.css and do other things.

If you need anything else feel free to contact me anytime, I'll do my best to help in any way I can. --Haswell:na (talk) 06:56, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for that.
I would like to delete some pages and redirect those deleted pages. How can I complete this ? Is it possible to change page url instead of delete and replace ? (I want to translate urls too).
synops229:eu (talk) 16:35, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

There should be a drop-down menu button next to the "edit" button on all pages, it include page protection, move and deletion functions. When you move a page the is a toggle option to also create a redirect on the page you want to remove to link to the new page.

Page URLs cannot be changed once the page is created, the only way to alter it is to move the page's contents to a new page with a new URL. The display title on pages however can be changed freely with the {{DISPLAYTITLE:title}} function. These pages might provide more help on redirects and magic words:

Adding tanks to page

Is it possible to add tanks to the wiki? I have requests for the AC-1 and the T7 Combat Car coming in. Sorrry for so many questions. I thought I had to wait for API to do it. And can we have the Japanese Medium line as well?

New vehicles will be added to the list automatically as the API allows it. Usually the database updates as the game client does, so for tanks not currently available in the client the database will also not have any data on them. The T7 CC and AC-1 currently do not exist in the game client or the Blitz database. Ditto with most Japanese tanks. To create manual entries for vehicles a completely new template will have to be drawn up.
Also, it's a good habit to sign messages to identify who's saying what, as the only other means to identification is tracking down who made each edit. While not an issue with low activity pages, it becomes hard to keep track when there are multiple conversations going on. --Haswell:na (talk) 02:56, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Applying to be an editor for World of Tanks Blitz

Hi Haswell, I am 1233thedevastastor from Asia server (SEA).

I want to be a WoT Blitz Editor and also World of Tanks Editor. For me, I am a player in the SEA Server and I can write also in Chinese

As a SEA server player in World of Tanks, and a WoT Blitz Player in SEA and NA at the same time, I hope that I can help edit this Wiki to be more user-friendly I have a good knowledge of extensive wiki coding.

Hope I can edit and improve this wiki, particularly in the Chinese Wiki which is now locked and I cannot access

Cheers for happy editing! --1233thedevastastor:sea (talk) 07:16, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Go ahead and mess with the pages as you see fit. Regarding the Chinese localization, you should contact your regional community team for more information since I have no idea what WG wants at an official capacity, hopefully I can get some communication from them as well to get the ball rolling. --Haswell:na (talk) 06:36, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

wot:g wiki

hello haswell!

are you still looking for contributors for the wot:g wiki? as far as i can see it the wiki needs to be started from scratch, for which my wiki skills are probably not enough. but if there's an existing wiki already, i'd write some card and hq descriptions.

--killswitch247:eu (talk) 00:30, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

I literally have no idea what Generals is about or how things should be done, I will have to confer with Alo8ight for that. Hang tight. --Haswell:na (talk) 00:54, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
any new developments? --killswitch247:eu (talk) 12:57, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Nadda right now, still waiting on the higher ups. It might help if you gather people who are interested in helping out with Generals stuff and start planning what you want to see on the wiki, that way you can also pitch the proposal over to WG and tell them to hurry up. --Haswell:na (talk) 23:09, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Camouflage in Blitz

As of the recent update, camouflage was added to Blitz --1233thedevastastor:sea (talk) 04:46, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

User:Shawk_91:na is the primary person in charge of all Blitz stuff, you should talk to him about that. I admit I'm pretty out of the loop with all the game titles right now, I just make sure the wiki doesn't fall apart. --Haswell:na (talk) 00:55, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Applying for editor

Hi! I was wondering if I could apply as an editor on the wiki, as I love to contribute to the wiki. I want to help in all of the sections as much as I can. I tried messaging Alo8ight but his inbox is too full for new messages. Thank you! Jawa457:na (talk) 20:41, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Go ahead and edit anything you see fit on the wiki, there are very little restrictions. Alo8ight has left WG and won't be answering his PMs anytime soon. Which reminds me, I should update the announcement on the front page. --Haswell:na (talk) 21:32, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
ok is there a guide on how to use the templates? I noticed the WOWS pages need work and there is nothing on the English WOT G pages. I know a bit about mediawiki but I am still quite a noob Jawa457:na (talk) 21:12, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
There isn't really a guide on how things work, everything is trial and error. Templates work by accepting input variables and spitting out what they are written to do, for example Template:ShipData grabs the page name and parses that into one of the database extensions, then the extension returns nicely formatted blocks for vehicle description, modules and compatible equipment. The vehicle name is then further used to build the sidebar data line by line also by using another extension that allows automatic data retrieval. Finally there are the sections like player opinions and historical stuff that allow manual input.

I've been meaning to finish up ShipData for several months now, but I kept putting it off due to how confusing the extension usage is (WG didn't provide complete documentation on them) and the lack of official support. I've unprotected the template for now, feel free to muck around with it, if you really mess something up you can always revert to an earlier revision of the page.

WoT Generals I have no idea what it is or how it should be presented on the wiki, WG never told me what they want or how to do anything with it. If you want to give it a shot be my guest.
--Haswell:na (talk) 23:02, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes I was looking at ShipData and had some thoughts for it that I think I will try out in the sandbox. I will toy around with WOT G a bit. There seems to be stuff in Russian I will try to translate. However both of these documents are imposible to edit by me. Is there some "wiki manager" rank or something I can use to be able to edit these pages? Jawa457:na (talk) 23:29, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Strange, I thought I un-protected ShipData already... In any case, WoT_Generals and Template:ShipData should be completely unprotected now. Have fun. --Haswell:na (talk) 00:59, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Great! I will tell you when I am done. What files do they use for the flags on the pages? Jawa457:na (talk) 15:42, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Explain, what flags? --Haswell:na (talk) 08:39, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
nevermind I got itJawa457:na (talk) 15:47, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

hope you don't mind me skulking around editing stuff in ships section, especially for the cruisers and battleships. Tend to get some minor vandalism here and there and some weird stuff.

Equipment list on tanks

Hey Haswell! It looks like on Blitz tank pages that compatible equipment is automatically pulled from somewhere. Is it possible to update the icons with actual Blitz icons that I yanked from the game files? Thanks Shawk_91:na (talk) 19:49, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Not that I know of, the images are automatically generated by the widget and are shared across PC, Console and Blitz. It is not possible to update the graphics for just Blitz while leaving the other two titles intact. Sorry. :c --Haswell:na (talk) 06:15, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Interest as a WoT Blitz Wiki Editor

Hi Haswell!

I've been working on various sections of the World of Tanks Blitz Wiki, primarily sections in the Modules and Options pages. Here is a list of things that I plan on working on, or would like to work on. Unfortunately, I can't make changes to the homepage because of restricted access (I think).

Homepage:

  • Addition of Crew/Crew Skills under the Options heading
  • Addition of Gunnery & Armor Penetration and Battle Mechanics under the Game Mechanics heading
  • Addition of Clans/Clan Wars section under the Guide heading
  • Addition of a Videos section under Guide (I'd like to feature official content as well as approved video guides made by CWG members)
  • Editing/Addition of images under the Gallery heading
  • Changing the Video heading to Trailers to feature only promotion content, while guides/ASAP videos are placed in the previous mentioned Videos section under Guide
  • Bulleted list item
  • Rewording or removal of the final line in the general description
Quote:
A truly free-to-play game. No timers, energy bars, fuel—play as much as you want and whenever you want.
  • Addition of RU Server in the Online Players box (if possible)
  • Removal of the Radio section under Modules (radios are not a module in WoTB)

Gun:

  • Addition of the Japanese guns
  • Editing/Removal of specific guns/gun stats (the table is copied from the PC version, and some stats/guns are different or not used by tanks in Blitz)

Turret:

  • Addition of Turret data for Blitz

Engine:

  • Addition of Engine data for Blitz

Suspension:

  • Addition of Suspension data for Blitz (without the load-limit statistic)

I currently plan on reworking the gun pages so that they're no just copy-and-pastes from the other game wikis (I only meant for them to be temporary). But I'll update the above list as I progress. Thanks for your time and efforts in maintaining the Wiki!

Fog_Cruiser_Australia:na (talk) 23:18, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Hey Fog! Good to have you on board. I'll take care of some of the front page stuff. I'm still working on the nuances. I can do quite a bit though. Feel free to PM me on the forums if you run into a roadblock. Also, try to sign your messages by leaving 4 tildes together(~) 07 Shawk_91:na (talk) 05:13, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Shawk ninja'd me while I was typing my original reply, looks like he covered all the landing page stuff. :P
Adding RU server numbers is possible, but if I do it for Blitz I'll have to do it for Planes (hue) and PC as well, which is something I decided against a while back on the basis of leaving RU things on the RU side. If the demand is high enough however, I'll make it happen.
And yeah, I am aware of a whole lot of missing vehicles for Blitz due to the outdated database. Sly should also know about this already, so it's a matter of waiting for the database to be updated.--Haswell:na (talk) 06:15, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Wiki questions

I have a couple questions about the wiki. First, anyone have any idea how https://wiki.wargaming.net/ru/%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BD:Wotg_kat works? Lastly, in case I make a mistake, is there a way to delete pages?

It looks like the template takes the card name, card level, code designation and premium status to obtain the card graphic and format annotations that also link to the card page. Take this for example: https://wiki.wargaming.net/ru/%D0%9A%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%82%D1%8B_%D0%A1%D0%A1%D0%A1%D0%A0_%28WoTG%29

The template usage for the first card on the list is {{Wotg_kat|Учебная часть|sh_uchebnayachast|1}}, where in normal English the name of the card is entered as the first input, the internal designation next and lastly the card level. The fourth input indicating the card's premium status is optional, as used with the Tetrarch and Valentine II. The internal designation is used to link to the correct image file, the card name to generate text and image link to the card page, card level and premium flag to link to the tier and premium image files.

I've never seen a complete list of widgets and their documentation linked anywhere, they are as much of a mystery to me as they are to you, I only got so far with trial and error TBH. There's a Widget_Guide but it's horribly outdated by now.

If you need a page to be deleted, just give me a shout or leave a note on the page so I can quickly find it on Recent Changes.

Proper place for discussions regarding the wiki

While I have some knowledge of working with templates, I've never seen a wiki like this one before, neither when it comes to (the lack of) editing options nor the peculiar naming conventions and multiple redirects leading nowhere thus rendering the Search-function more or less useless. From what I have managed to gather digging around, it seems a lot of control over the appearance and function resides within WG, but where can I find more exactly what is controlled by who, and what conventions are to be used? US tank tree graphics

Hey there,

could you please update the displayed US tank tree graphic on the US-page? It is outdated (example: T18 no longer available, M3 Stuart leads to additional tank).

Thanks!

ParserFunctions

Hi, can we have ParserFunctions enabled on the wiki? Or is there any alternative for that functions already available? I think this would enable easier customization for some template use cases where it needs some conditional formatting.

Tank tag changing nightmare

Hi Haswell, I notice template Tank: is indexed to Wargaming tank tag, in order to fill tank data. I have also noticed WG have been changing tank tags with different client versions - which breaks this wiki tank pages! I have been moving content to new pages and redirected old tag to new ones, however I found one particular page, Tank:RenaultFT, working with old tag (it should now be Tank:F01_RenaultFT instead of Tank:RenaulFT). This page seams to run out of other pages mechanics. If I could understand this mechanics, it may be easier in future to handle those WG tag changes. Can you explain this behaviour? (User:LS80:eu 2016-08-03)

World of Tanks Blitz Editors

Hello Haswell, I noticed that the World of Tanks Blitz wiki is woefully outdated. I can't seem to find a way to add vehicle pages, edit the version number, etc. Are these things restricted to Editors? Application for Editor/Adminship

Hallo! I was wondering if I could be considered for admin/editor status, based on previous wiki experience. Additionally, if this status is granted (unless restricted to Wargaming employees only), I will use it to further improve the World of Tanks: Blitz pages, including:

  • Updating the GameVersion template for Blitz
  • Ensure that tank pages are kept updated
  • General harmony of the Blitz wiki

I ask that you consider my request, and if you are able, promote me if you deem me fitting for the task. Thanks. — Maethoredhel:na (TalkContribsLogs) 19:04, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Container Addition to WoWs Wiki Main Portal

WoWs Wiki

Hi, I have noticed that there is a page for 'Containers' though there is no link to it from the main World of Warships main Wiki portal. The only way to find the page is through the search engine.

Could you please add a link to the 'Container' page on the main WoWs portal.

Any moderators still around?

The WoT wiki itself is sadly but seriously outdated. It's still 0.9.16 in the version sector of main page, and there aren't many supported templates for the Italians for the time being. Hope this won't have to wait for too long.

Tank Codes/ID's

Helloooooooo, Haswell.

I am currently creating a page for the AMX ELC bis on the Blitz portal, because gameplay on the blitz version is much different than gameplay on the original version. I am following the template and everything seems to be working except that the core panels from the auto gen data are not being placed, which really isn't a surprise. However, it's an essential part of the page, so if I were to use the

to insert the AMX ELC bis's code and thus its core panels, how would I do it?

Also, is this the only way, and if not, which is the most efficient way? I would like to help the WarGaming page, and I'm a WOTB enthusiast. Interestingly, I enjoy doing this more than playing the game :3

Can you help me?
