Welcome, Editor!

The Wargaming Wiki is a web resource, where players can find useful information on all Wargaming titles. While the platform is provided by Wargaming, it's the community itself that shares their knowledge on the game and the content. So if you're interested in contributing to the wiki yourself, read on to learn the basics in just a couple of minutes!

Before we jump right in, please follow these simple guidelines:

  • Making mistakes is fine. You can always revert to the previous version if something broke on the page.
  • Be objective. When entering information, stay with the facts and avoid writing too opinionated texts. Use non-first-person views only.

On this page, you will find out the basics of editing the wiki, such as using templates and filling pages with information (text, links, and images).

Create a new page

If you see red clickable text, that means that there's a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. Clicking it will open the wiki editor. Fill out the page with all the information.

Before saving, please use the "Show preview" feature to see if the page looks as you want it to.

Example of a red link

Should you want to link to a completely new page, you need to first create a link to that particular page. Since it obviously doesn't exist yet, the text will be red (see the paragraph above).

Here is how you create a link:

  • If the text is the same as the page name: World of Tanks ==> World of Tanks
  • If the text differs from the page name: text ==> text
  • In case you want to link to a non-wiki page: World of Tanks EU ==> World of Tanks EU
    • Mind the difference in formatting between the external links and the wiki page links: only one bracket instead of two, and a space between the link and the text instead of a separator "|".

Edit a tank page

This is how a page looks like with the "Tank Data" template.

To edit a page, click "Edit" at the top of the page. As you'll most likely work on the tank pages, adding info on the vehicles and their gameplay, let’s take a look at the ‘TankData’ template. This one is used for every tank page on the World of Tanks wiki:

TankData template (click to open/close)

And here is what each section of the template is for:

  • TankData|Tank= <== Leave this empty, the tank data is added automatically.
  • | <== Here you can add additional intro text.
  • |Gallery= <== Add vehicle pictures to the Gallery here
  • |InTheGame_pros= <== Used to describe the strong points of a specific vehicle. Please only use bullet points.
  • |InTheGame_cons= <== Used to describe the weak points of a specific vehicle. Please only use bullet points.
  • |InTheGame_performance= <== Add more information on the gameplay/playstyle of the respective vehicle.
  • |InTheGame_research= <== Type here your recommendations on which modules to research first to make the grind as efficient/comfortable as possible.
  • |InTheGame_equipment= <== Mention here the pieces of equipment you recommend mounting into the vehicle. Please mind that you need to use the correct name, else the picture won’t show.
  • |InTheGame_Equipment_Builds= <== Can be used to describe further the choice of equipment, together with Crew Skills.
  • |External_Reviews= <== Normally used to link videos created by YouTubers.
  • |History= <== Add here historical information about the vehicle.
  • |HistoricalGallery= <== In case there are historical images, link them here.
  • |Ref_references= <== Part of the “Sources and External Links” section. Add References to information here.
  • |Ref_sources= <== Part of the “Sources and External Links” section. Meant for links leading outside of the wiki if the information has been taken from there to people can read up the source of the information. in case there’s additional information to be found about a vehicle.
  • |Ref_links= <== Part of the “Sources and External Links” section. Add additional links there if you want.

Don't worry if you make a mistake and accidentally break the page layout. You can either go back to editing the page to fix it or completely revert to the previous version. To do that, click on "View history" at the top of the page you want to fix. Then, tick the current version and the one you want to revert to, and click "Compare selected revisions". There, click on "Rollback" on the right and voilà!

Uploading and embedding images

In case you want to upload images for vehicles, visit this page, where you can find more information on how to do that. Find the complete list of files here.

Add an image to the page by adding Example: ==> Videowot.png

We recommend you to use thumbnails for larger images for the sake of proper layout. Use to use a 200 pixel wide rendition in a box in the left margin with "text" as the description (recommended for use in article text body).

  • Alter the "200px" part to another value if you want to change the size of the thumbnail.
  • Possible alignment options are "left", "center", and "right".
  • Replace "text" with a short description of the image.

Result:

text
