Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

- Good armour for a LT

- 10,5 cm gun deals excellent damage if penetrated

- 7,5/5,5 cm gun have top-notch penetration, best-in-class accuracy and good damage

- Decent mobility despite armour

Cons:

- Slower than other tier 6 LT, MT-25 and T21

- Slow rate of fire on all guns, resulting in low DPM

- Full gun depression (-10) only at the sides

Performance

Although a scout killed in the PC, the VK 28.01 in Blitz can be a full-fledged scouting tank when there's no other LT in the team.

It's gun is arguably the best of the 3 tier 6 LTs, with good all round stats. The standard AP shell can already go through most tanks you'll meet, and the APCR shells are unblockable except by the thicker parts of tier 7 heavy tanks. The accuracy can also allow you to do some sniping when bottom-tier.

One main downside is the rather slow rate of fire, which can prove to be a problem during melee brawl against other tanks. The below average aim time could also prove troublesome when aiming at fast moving tanks at a distance. Also the top 7,5/5,5 cm gun don't have HE shells, which limits the damage output when facing lightly armoured tanks compared to the T21 and the MT-25.

The mobility is good, although the T21 and MT-25 are faster, making the VK better suited for supporting these LTs instead of actively spotting. However, the mobility is still good enough should a scouting role is needed.

Armour wise, the VK is the most heavily armoured tank out of the tier 6 LTs. MT-25 will have trouble penetrating you with proper angling, you will be able to bounce a few shots from time to time, and HE shells deal siginificantly less damage to you compared to the MT-25 and the T21.

The VK 28.01 is a versatile tank that can play LT spotting and harrasement or MT-styled second-line support.

During first couple of minutes, go do some scouting and/or support your other LTs. After those couple of minutes, you can start to roam around and finish off low health tanks. Be careful if going into brawls against other tanks though, as your slow rate of fire can be a let down.

Early Research

-Nothing carries over from the Leopard

-You may already have the 10,5 cm howitzer unlocked if you have played the Pz. IV H before, but you'll still need the top turret to use it

-Go for the turret and the howizter first, then the second engine and the tracks. Finally the top 7.5/5,5 cm gun and the top engine.

-if you are comfortable with the stock gun, you can get the engines and the tracks first, before the turret and the guns.
