Matchmaker (WoT Blitz)
Every time you tap the “Battle!” button, you are placed in the queue of players awaiting a battle. In the queue, the matchmaking system divides the waiting players into teams as quickly as possible. There are currently two game modes in World of Tanks Blitz: Encounter and Supremacy. In Encounter mode, your team of 7 people must either kill the 7 enemies, or capture the neutral base. In the newer game mode, Supremacy, both teams start with 300 points, and the first team to either get to 1000 points, or kill all 7 opponents wins the match. Points are gained by killing an enemy, or capturing a base, which awards points based on the number of bases on the map.
Battles can take place in eleven possible different battle tiers. Each vehicle, depending on its performance, type, and tier, is assigned a certain subset of these battle tiers that it is supposed to fight in. However, players often confuse battle tiers and their vehicle's tier. The matchmaker does not try to match vehicles by vehicle tier. but by another general rule, and All tanks have a +1/-1 tier matchmaking except Valentine II and Pz.B2 with +0/-1 matchmaking with the obvious exception of tier 1 and 10 tanks.
If you are in a platoon, the entire platoon is placed into battles according to the platoon member in the vehicle with the highest battle tier. This can produce unwanted results in particular for new players at the lower tiers. For example, a Matilda and a KV-1 platooned, and the possible battle tiers would be Tier V & Tier VI which is unwanted for the Matilda. This is not as much of a major issue in Blitz as it is in PC, where your innocent toon with a light tank could end you up 4 tiers higher. However, recently a change was made to the matchmaker in order to attempt to place two "failtoons" against each other, which helps mitigate this issue.
The matchmaker will balance the number of platoons in battle, that is it try to put the same amount of platoons per team, but will allow there to be +1/-1 difference. It is also important to note that matchmaker will not balance the tier of the platooned tanks. This means one team can have a platoon with Tier VII tanks, whereas the other team has a platoon with Tier VI tanks.
World of Tanks: Blitz have already announced that when you first buy a tank, you will have a preferential matchmaking for a few battles before you enter normal battle tier range for a tank. This is meant to help you, as the player, learn the basics of your tank and get good in its playstyle and practical use. This means you will be top tier for the duration of the honeymoon period.
What matchmaker does not consider
It is important to know that matchmaker does not consider the following factors:
- Personal Rating
- Tank progress
- Nation and class of the vehicle
- Vehicle configuration
- Crew mastery level
- Players statistics
What matchmaker does consider
- As of patch 4.5, the matchmaker will attempt to restrict teams to less than four vehicles of the same type
- As of patch (to be filled later), the matchmaker will try to match platoons made of different tiered vehicles with other platoons of the same combination of tiers.

Servers in low population
When the battle queue has low population, you will need to wait longer than average. When your time in queue reaches 3 minutes, you will enter a 3v3 battle when applicable, with matchmaker attempting to build teams with an Equal Number of Platoons and Tanks in Each Tier, . When the waiting time is longer than 5 minutes, you will exit the queue and you will need to enter the battle queue again.
