Bayern — German Tier VI battleship.

The warship belonged to the last series of battleships built for the Imperial German Navy. She was distinguished for her powerful 380 mm main guns with extremely good shell ballistics and a rate of fire that was quite high among similar gun systems.

Performance

The last Imperial German battleship, Bayern stands as the ultimate refinement of the dreadnought-type before the shift to the fast battleship. She represents the best of what the Kaiserliche Marine had ever wanted for their linienschiff dreadnoughts: tough-as-nails, good offensive power, and fast (for a dreadnought); she is very potent when compared to other battleships of her tier.

Protecting Bayern is an armor belt significantly stronger than her American colleague New Mexico and much stronger than Fuso, though like all dreadnoughts the deck armor is somewhat questionable. Her offensive armament rivals that of Tier VI premium battleship Warspite in terms of gun caliber and ballistics with the German gun reloading several seconds faster. At a glance, Bayern may not look like much compared to her peers, but she is a solidly-rounded ship with many strengths and few weaknesses.

Pros:

Armor layout makes her highly resistant to damage.
Impressive range with the GFCS alone.
Comparable gun caliber to Warspite.
Good shell velocity.
High volume of secondaries with decent range.
Above average speed and turning characteristics.
Surprisingly stealthy for a dreadnought, allowing her to close the distance to where her guns will do more damage.
Final hull with captain perks and modules can make her almost immune to even Tier VII aircraft.
She is a very flexible battleship for her tier

Cons:

Dispersion of her main battery guns is often frustrating.
The stock World War I-era hull does not have any anti-aircraft defenses, allowing aircraft to attack with impunity.
Does not have a catapult to launch spotter planes or defensive fighters.
Slow turret traverse.
Slightly longer reload time than most German battleships.
AP penetration value drops very significantly over distance due to her light shells

Bayern has access to four Upgrade Slots as a Tier VI ship.

Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1 to improve her main battery survival.
Slot 2: Damage Control System Modification 1  to improve her overall survival in battle.
Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1 to improve her main battery accuracy.
Slot 4: Damage Control System Modification 2 to further improve her overall survival. Steering Gears Modification 2 is also an option to improve her maneuverability.
