Player Opinion
Performance
Right from the start, the Bogue features a full complement of monoplane aircraft. They are faster, can take more of a beating, and carry heavier ordnance than the aircraft on the Langley. However, her initial air group configuration is inferior to the Langley, with only one fighter and one torpedo squadron, but no dive bomber squadron. Just like the Langley, however, she is very slow and if she gets engaged she will get sunk.
The Bogue offers a choice of two air group configurations: the Mk5 mod. 3, nicknamed "Air Superiority", containing two fighter squadrons and a single dive bomber squadron; and the Mk5 mod. 2, nicknamed "Strike" because of the focus on torpedo and dive bombers, at the expense of all fighters.
One more thing, Bogue doesn't have nearly as many reserve planes compared to Langley, and being reckless will surely get your planes destroyed.Pros:
- Very powerful AA for its tier
- Very good for punishing/bullying inexperienced enemy carrier captains
- Air Superiority loadout easily crushes aerial threats
- Strike loadout, when managed correctly, can make quick work of any capital ships and even alpha strike the enemy carrier.
Cons:
- Glacially slow at 16.5 knots, only being 1.5 knots faster than Langley at the cost of an even slower acceleration
- Poor rudder-shift time
- Absolutely pitiful armor
- Even fewer secondaries than Langley, which also have a bad firing arc and can only defend the stern of the ship.
- Very few reserve planes - less than the number of aircraft it can deploy for a complete replacement.
- Planes still lack durability and take a while to travel to their targets.
- No balanced loadout for aircraft leaving an all of nothing approach to capabilities and preferred role of the captain.
Research
- Research one of the two flight control upgrades first to gain a third squadron.
- Research the "B" hull next to greatly improve the carrier's defenses and gain four more reserve aircraft.
- The rest can be researched in any order.
Optimal Configuration
Upgrades
As a carrier with three upgrade slots (slots 1, 2, and 4), it's best to mount Air Groups Modification 1, Flight Control Modification 1 (for faster servicing time) or Air Groups Modification 2 (for better fighter survivability), and Damage Control System Modification 1 on Bogue.
Commander Skills
Due to Bogue being the next slowest ship in the game at 16kts, it is also unable to outrun any ship that may be chasing it - therefore Emergency Takeoff again over Survivability Expert. Furthermore, due to Zuiho having Tier VI fighters, again, Dogfighting Expert is a very good skill to utilize against Zuiho.
ATTENTION
- As of Update 0.6.3, this carrier can no longer use manual / Alt function attack.
- Due to dive bombers having over 100% chance of causing fires, Demolition Expert is not a recommended skill.

Consumables
As a carrier at Tier V, Bogue has access to only Damage Control Party.
Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce the chance of being detected.
Signals
As a carrier, Bogue can only mount at most four signals at a time and has no risk of detonating. Players should mount Equal Speed Charlie London (for faster XP grinding / increased XP gain per battle), Zulu Hotel (when coupled with Equal Speed Charlie London greatly helps increase commander (re)training), November Echo Setteseven (for better bomber self-defense against fighters and increased AA DPS), and Juliet Whiskey Unaone (to have a better chance at causing flooding and dealing damage via flooding). Players can also choose to equip the Dragon Flag for faster commander (re)training.Gallery
