Farragut — American Tier VI destroyer.
After the signing of the London Naval Treaty, development began on a new ship class. It was based on the experience of operating smooth-decked destroyers and the study of German ships. The Farragut class received a transom stern, a forecastle-based turret, and a more cost-effective power unit. USS Farragut participated in repelling the attacks on Pearl Harbor, in the Battle of the Coral Sea, and the Solomon Islands campaign. She also escorted convoys to Kiska Island and escorted carrier groups. Over the course of World War II, the ship was awarded 14 battle stars.

Player Opinion
Pros:
- Can fire between 12.6 km and 10.5 km without being spotted with upgraded gun fire control system
- Rate of fire is excellent.
- Fast at 36.7 knots and just over 40 with the engine boost consumable
- Upgraded Torpedoes have a 0.9km higher range and travel noticeably faster
- High shell arc allows to plunge fire through islands without getting hit
Cons:
- Very weak armor, suffers from more frequent detonation than Nicholas
- AA guns are mainly for show and will rarely shoot anything down, even the hull upgrades don't do much.
- Both the hull upgrades combined only give you 600 extra health
- Terrible shell velocity like its predecessor
Research
It is best to get the Gun Fire Control System first for the extra range ans American DD's rely on guns much more than their Japanese counterparts.
The hull upgrades are counter productive to this playstyle and are best avoided. But you will need to research at least the Farragut B hull to move on to the Mahan. Instead of getting the Farragut C hull for 8k XP, you should invest 7.2k XP in the improved torpedoes. You can get for "free" them as well, as soon as you unlock the Mahan, because they are the stock torpedoes of it.
