?The biggest flaw with ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is her 32 mm plating that covers every non-superstructure surface of the ship. ?Overall, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' possesses a unique play style for a battleship; her mobility, guns, reload time, and poor protection make her play more similarly to a high-tier cruiser than a battleship, while her poor concealment, hit points, and armor are still those of a battleship. République — French Tier X battleship.

In 1939, the construction of additional Richelieu-class battleships was approved. One of the ships was built according to an improved design and received a new arrangement for her main battery guns—one quadruple-gun turret placed at each of the ship's ends. At the same time, larger-caliber guns were in development. If French reconnaissance had received more accurate data on the main battery of the planned German battleships, the shipbuilders would most likely have opted to increase the main battery due to the limited size of the dockyards.

Player Opinion

Performance

The ultimate goal of captains working up the French battleship line, République has a fairly unique play style compared to that of other Tier X battleships. Luckily, veterans of the French battleship branch will find the time invested in previous ships time well-spent, as lessons learned in her predecessors suit République well: she is primarily a "flanker", relying on her mobility and good accuracy to punish enemy broadsides from unexpected positions.

République has an excellent mobility advantage over her same-tier counterparts, and combined with her mediocre concealment, her play style becomes fairly similar to that of Tier X German cruiser Hindenburg or Tier X American battleship Montana. Captains who use her mobility to reach opportunistic positions and flanks will be well-rewarded: her amazing guns and gun handling handily demolish enemy ships that expose their vulnerable broadsides. Her mobility can also be used to close within brawling range of isolated battleships, allowing République to make use of her above-average secondary battery. Her mobility also allows her to disengage at need, although her concealment leaves something to be desired in such situations.

The biggest flaw with République is the 32mm plating that covers every non-superstructure surface of the ship. This makes her overly vulnerable to HE shells from enemy heavy cruisers (or IFHE-equipped light cruisers). Ships such as Des Moines and Hindenburg are extreme threats to République, even more so than most battleships. Her armor scheme also leaves her vulnerable to overmatch hits from Yamato and Musashi. Luckily, her actual belt armor and citadel protection are quite thick, so most battleships won't be able to do massive damage to her broadside.

Overall, République possesses a unique play style for a battleship: her mobility, guns, reload time, and below average protection make her play more similarly to a high-tier cruiser than a battleship; while her poor concealment, hit points, consumables, and belt armor are still those of a battleship. République can be a very fun ship to play, even if her competitive potential is almost non-existent.

Pros:

  • Fastest firing main battery battleship guns at Tier X with a 24 second reload.
  • Strong, long ranged secondary battery suite.
  • Strong AA armament, with a large concentration of strength in dual-purpose mounts and no short range aura.
  • Fastest battleship in the game when Speed Boost is active.
  • Great shell ballistics make for easy long-range engagements.
  • High penetration and the ability to overmatch 30 mm armor allows it to do damage to both battleships and cruisers with consistency.
  • Good accuracy makes landing consistent salvos quite easy.

Cons:

  • 32mm armor covers the majority of the ship above the waterline, making her incredibly vulnerable to HE shells from cruisers and overmatch from the 460mm guns of Yamato and Musashi.
  • Large size makes her an easy target.
  • Only eight guns in a poor turret arrangement greatly limits her flexibility.
  • Secondary/AA guns are easily destroyed.
  • Poor maneuverability.
  • Poor concealment.

Research

As a Tier X ship, République doesn't have any upgrades to research.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for République are as follows:

Commander Skills

République can make use of a variety of builds, and it's the captains choice on what they want to specialize in. Both secondaries and AA can be specialized in simultaneously, but captains can also opt for a standard "survival build".

Consumables

République can equip the following consumables:

Captains should opt for the premium versions of all consumables if they have the credits to do so.

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectibility range.

Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip République with Type 20 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Signals

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
