Friedrich der Grosse — German Tier IX battleship.
In 1938 and 1939, a plan for the modernization and expansion of the German fleet was developed. Six new battleships were supposed to become the core of the fleet—modernized versions of the Bismarck-class battleships with a diesel power plant and increased gun caliber of up to 406 mm. In July 1939, the keel of the first ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, and in September, the construction of the second one began in Bremen. With the outbreak of World War II, construction was suspended and then canceled.

Player Opinion
Performance
Basically a "Super Bismarck" in terms of appearance and oftentimes "H39" for some, the Friedrich der Große (english translation: Frederick the Great) or "Freddy" for most, is a fairly bigger Bismarck style design that brings about some changes in what one learns in the said battleship and with Tirpitz. Practically a large battleship with the AB-XY dual mount layout of her predecessor, the Friedrich can provide with an ample amount of offense while her armor layout enables her to endure heavy punishment to get within the most effective range her guns can start railing in severe damage. It is noteworthy, however, that the Friedrich also has the biggest gun by right of barrel diameter at her tier which adds more security in the notion that you can harm your peers and to smaller ships, and combining this with her fairly fast turrets and surprising ergonomics as well as the intensive secondary battery volume, the Friedrich der Große can bring about some of the most intense runs you can ever have.
Adding to her assets is the fact she can change between two sets of guns, the 16 inch guns and the 17 inch guns. The former fire fairly fast at 28 seconds at the cost of having shell ratings a bit lower than the guns on her colleagues Iowa and Izumo but still possess good characteristics nonetheless and the latter gives the battleship better firepower at the cost of increasing the reload time.
Playing smartly and knowing when to get close enough for a brawl is tantamount to being efficient with this ruddy battleship.Pros:
- Retains the same "turtle-back" layout of her predecessor
- Biggest guns at her tier (by right of barrel diameter)
- Modular warship; like the cruiser Mogami, she can change between two guns
- Still retains the hydroacoustic search
- Secondaries have more volume and can be kitted to fire at 10km
- Reasonable ergonomics for a battleship her size
- Reasonable AA suite potency
- Fast for her size
- Fastest turret traverse at her tier
- Good gun range
Cons:
- Large turn radius
- Internal layout may protect the citadel but the battleship still takes heavy damage from normal penetrations
- Poor rudder shift, although the rudder shift module may slightly mitigate this
- Very high detection range albeit not as high as her peer Izumo
- AA suite bubble enables enemy strike aircraft to get close enough to drop their payload before running in to the risk of being destroyed
- All gun choices are inconsistent: bad accuracy and low penetration.
- 300mm armor means nothing in her tier.
