?[[File:Wows flag ROC.png|50px|frameless|right|link=]]A ''Benson''-class destroyer (USS ''Benson'', DD-421) specifically built for the [[Ship:Ships of U.S.A.|U.S. Navy]], boasting powerful AA guns and a high speed. She was handed over to the Republic of China (Taiwan) in February 1954. Her armament was comprised of dual-purpose main guns and quintuple torpedo tubes.<br><br>''{{#var:ship_name}}'' was first released for sale on 1 February 2016 for the EU server and 22 February 2016 for the NA server.<br><br>{{Model3DViewer|e64333959ca44cce812125526205e7b8}}

?|Performance=<!-- write text about performance in battles below -->
?''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is essentially a Hull (C) ''[[Benson]]'' in premium form. She is a highly flexible destroyer, with access to [[Ship:Upgrades#Tier_VIII.2B_Equipment_.28Slot_5.29|Upgrade Slot 5]] and {{Concealment System Modification 1}} which allow her to have a concealment value that rivals those of her Japanese counterparts. When that stealth is combined with a potent torpedo armament, fast-firing main battery guns, and a flexible array of consumable choices, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' becomes true jack-of-all-trades ship with an incredibly high ceiling in the hands of a skilled captain.
?
?For ''{{#var:ship_name}}'', it all starts with her main battery. When built for maximum stealth, her detection radius of 5.8 km combined with 18 rounds per minute from each of the four guns in her main battery make her a terror to enemy destroyers. She can work in close, then cut opposing destroyers down very quickly with her high rate of fire. Beyond her main battery, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' has access to torpedoes whose range exceeds her detection radius. She has a very long reload time for her torpedo tubes, but the torpedoes themselves are harder to detect than their Japanese counterparts and give her targets less reaction time to dodge out of the way. Uniquely, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' has access to the {{Hydroacoustic Search}} consumable — and an improved one at that — giving her the ability to detect enemy ships out to 5.4 km. This makes her an amazing destroyer hunter when enemy destroyer captains are obliging enough to camp in their own smoke screens; at a minimum, the hydro consumable gives ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' unrivaled ability to screen friendly ships from incoming torpedoes.
?
?Even a ship as good as ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' has drawbacks. Her anti-aircraft suite might generously be called mediocre, though she does have access to {{Defensive AA Fire}} to help drive off enemy planes. As a destroyer she has no real armor to speak of, and most shells that hit her will disable at least one module of some kind. Her shell arcs become challenging to use past the 7-8 km range, and require excessive lead in order to land hits.
?
?Despite the negatives, though, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is one of the better balanced destroyers in World of Warships, capable of providing a valuable contribution to any team she finds herself on in the hands of a skilled captain.

?
?|Pros=<!-- write list of positive points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. -->
?* Fast turret traverse.
?* Has access to the {{Hydroacoustic Search}} consumable, which turns the destroyer into a bloodhound; ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' has the equivalent of Tier VII German cruiser hydro, with detection ranges for both torpedoes and ships of 3.75km and 5.43km, respectively.
?* Has access to the {{Defensive AA Fire}} consumable as a option.
?* Two torpedo loadout options.
?* Good rudder shift.
?* Impressive handling characteristics; she responds to her rudder quickly and has a tight turning radius.
?* Captains that are familiar with the American Tier VIII destroyer ''[[Benson]]'' should perform well in her.
?
?|Cons=<!-- write list of negative points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. -->
?* Torpedoes armament is a mixed bag; stock torpedoes are the same as ''[[Benson]]''’s stock Mk. 15 mod. 0 — slow and longer ranged — while the optional torpedoes are much faster with a nearly suicidal range of only 6.7km.
?* {{Hydroacoustic Search}} is in the same slot as {{Engine Boost}} so choose wisely.
?* ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is essentially a Hull (C) ''Benson'' flying the Pan-Asian flag, so she has only four (4) guns instead of the five (5) found on ''Benson''’s Hull (B).
?* Anti-aircraft suite is mainly for show and will rarely shoot anything down (even with {{Defensive AA Fire}} active).
?* Very long torpedo reload time.
?* High shell arcs make it hard to hit fast moving ships, especially if they are maneuvering to avoid incoming fire.
?
?|Research=<!-- write text about priority sequence of research below -->
?As a premium ship, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' doesn't have any upgrades to research.
?
?|OptimalConfiguration=
?
?|Upgrades=<!-- write text about best upgrades below -->
?The recommended upgrades for ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' are as follows:
?*'''Slot 1''': {{Main Armaments Modification 1}}
?*'''Slot 2''': {{Propulsion Modification 1}}<nowiki>*</nowiki>
?*'''Slot 3''': {{Aiming Systems Modification 1}}<nowiki>*</nowiki>
?*'''Slot 4''': {{Propulsion Modification 2}}
?*'''Slot 5''': {{Concealment System Modification 1}}
?
?'''Upgrade Slot 2''' provides access to a few useful upgrades. Captains looking to maximize their anti-aircraft capabilities may wish to install the special upgrade, {{Defensive AA Fire Modification 1}}. Those who have opted to equip {{Hydroacoustic Search}} should consider mounting {{Hydroacoustic Search Modification 1}} in order to increase the consumable's duration.
?
?'''Upgrade Slot 3''' offers a few options. A generally viable choice is '''Aiming Systems Modification 1''', but captains who have equipped {{Defensive AA Fire}} may wish to mount {{AA Guns Modification 2}} in order to increase the firing range of anti-aircraft guns.
?
?|CommanderSkills=
?Key skills for ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' commanders include Preventative Maintenance at Level 1, Last Stand at Level 2, Survivability Expert at Level 3, and Concealment Expert at Level 4. Once those four basic skills have been covered, captains can begin to customize their ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' commander further. Captains wishing to focus on maximizing their main battery should sink points into Demolition Expert and Basic Firing Training at Level 3; more torpedo-minded captains should invest in Torpedo Armament Expertise instead. Level 2's Adrenaline Rush is a good buy regardless of which armament is chosen for a focus, as is Level 3's Superintendent to maximize ''{{#var:ship_name}}''’s array of consumable choices. Captains wishing to invest in a full-on anti-aircraft build should invest in Basic Firing Training and Manual Fire Control for AA Armament; ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is capable of shooting down surprising numbers of enemy aircraft when configured properly, but it requires a heavy investment in commander skill points and upgrades.

?|Camouflage=<!-- write text about useful camouflage below -->
?As a premium ship, ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' comes included with [[Ship:Camouflage#Premium_Camouflage|Type 10 camouflage]] that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
?
?|Consumables=<!-- write text about selection of Consumables below -->
?''{{#var:ship_name}}'' can equip the following consumables:
?* '''Slot 1:''' {{Damage Control Party}}
?* '''Slot 2:''' {{Smoke Generator}}
?* '''Slot 3:''' {{Engine Boost}} '''or''' {{Defensive AA Fire}} '''or''' {{Hydroacoustic Search}}
?
?A gunboat destroyer such as ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is inevitably going to come under heavy fire; the abbreviated cooldown on {{Damage Control Party II}} will eventually pay for itself. Shelling out the doubloons or credits here is highly recommended. Paying for {{Smoke Generator II}} is captain's choice, but there are times that the shortened cooldown on smoke is the difference between sneaking away and going to the bottom.
?
?The tough choice for ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' captains is what to plug into '''Slot 3'''. {{Hydroacoustic Search}} is what really sets ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' apart from the competition and is highly recommended; in fact, pony up the credits or doubloons for {{Hydroacoustic Search II}}. {{Defensive AA Fire}} is not a bad option, but is really only worthwhile with a near max-level captain heavily invested into anti-aircraft skills. {{Engine Boost}} isn't recommended as the other two are better options.
?
?|Signals=<!-- write text about best set of signals below -->
?Juliet Charlie ({{Juliet Charlie|Size=18px}}) is always a good signal to use on destroyers to avoid [[Ship:Detonation|detonations]]. Sierra Mike ({{Sierra Mike|Size=18px}}) is a great pick for ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' captains who equip {{Hydroacoustic Search}} but don't like that they must sacrifice {{Engine Boost}}, as it adds another couple of knots to ''{{#var:ship_name}}''’s top speed.

?|History=<!-- write text below -->
?Detached from this duty late in January 1945, ''Benson'' returned to the United States for yard repairs and training during February. After a convoy-escort run to Plymouth, England, in April, the destroyer received orders to the Pacific. Accordingly, she transited the Panama Canal on 12 May and reached Pearl Harbor on the 29th. The destroyer spent a bit more than a month in Hawaiian waters and then got underway on 14 June to escort aircraft carriers USS ''[[Lexington]]'' (CV-16), USS ''Cowpens'' (CVL-25) and USS ''Hancock'' (CV-19) in their air strikes against Wake Island. Then, following upkeep at Leyte in the Philippines, she proceeded to Ulithi. Until VJ day on 15 August, the warship performed convoy and patrol duty between Ulithi and Okinawa. She served in the screen for the first occupation troops for Yokohama, who landed on 2 and 3 September 1945.
?
?In the two months following the surrender of Japan, the destroyer escorted five different convoy groups between the Philippines and Tokyo Bay. Ordered back to the United States for inactivation, ''Benson'' got underway from Yokohama on 4 November 1945 and moored at the Charleston Navy Yard, on 6 December. She was decommissioned there on 18 March 1946, placed in reserve, and assigned to the Charleston Group of the Atlantic Reserve Fleet.
?
?On 26 February 1954, ''Benson'' was transferred to the government of the Republic of China, and she served as ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' (DD-14) into the mid-1970s. As the result of a survey made of her early in 1974, she was replaced with another American destroyer that the U.S. Navy loaned them in 1975, the former USS ''Taussig'' (DD-746), which then became ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' (洛陽號) (DD-14). Meanwhile, ''Benson''’s name was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 November 1974 and she was sold for cannibalization and scrapping.
?
?''Benson'' (DD-421) earned four battle stars for her World War II service. As of 2008, no other ship in the United States Navy has been named ''Benson''.
?
?===Historical Inaccuracies===
?* ''Loyang'' did not have any torpedo tubes when she was transferred to the Republic of China Navy. Both sets had been replaced by platforms for 20mm Oerlikons.

Loyang — Pan-Asian premium Tier VIII destroyer.

USS Benson, the lead ship of her class, was built at the Fore River Shipyard. In 1940 and 1941, she served in so-called Neutrality Patrols. Once the U.S. entered World War II, USS Benson escorted convoys in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean and supported the landings of the Allied forces in Italy. In 1945, the ship was transferred to the Pacific, where she escorted American aircraft carriers during operations against Midway Atoll. For her service during the war, she was awarded four battle stars. In 1954, she was handed over to the Republic of China, where she was renamed Loyang.
