Jump to: navigation, search

Each map in World of Warships is designed to be unique and interesting while promoting fun and engaging gameplay. Most maps are restricted to certain tiers of ships, largely due to the speed and firing range of the ships that will play on it. Map sizes vary from 24x24 km to 48x48 km. It's worth noting that maps are not to scale with the ships. Ships are roughly twice as large than they should be; put another way, each map is twice as small as it should be. This is intentional, and was done to condense gameplay and avoid long matches in which players spend inordinate amounts of time just trying to bring the enemy into engagement range.

The maps listed below are divided currently into two types: Regular and Special. Regular maps are the ones most players are familiar with, as they feature in Random Battles. Special maps on the other hand only appear at certain times, or on special occasions.

Note that "Battle Tier" below refers to the tier of the highest ship in the battle, and not necessarily to the tiers of ALL ships in the battle. For example: a map with a "Battle Tier" of "9-10" can actually be seen by Tier VII ships if they are up-tiered into a Tier IX battle in which that map is chosen.

Regular Maps

Islands_screen.png
Islands.png

Islands

  • Battle Tiers: 1-3
  • Size: 24x24 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_34_OC_islands.wowsreplay
Designed for low-tier battles, Islands is one of the smallest maps in World of Warships. There are many islands which provide adequate cover for sneak attacks by destroyers as well as large open areas towards the west and east sides. Due to the lack of team strategy from most players at low tiers, the main engagement areas are usually very unpredictable. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Polar_screen.png
Polar.png

Polar

  • Battle Tiers: 1-3
  • Size: 24x24 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_33_new_tierra.wowsreplay
Polar is a quick-playing, compact map intended for dynamic battles at lower tiers. It is dotted with icebergs and ideal for combat with lots of movement. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Solomon_Islands_screen.png
Solomon_Islands.png

Solomon Islands

  • Battle Tiers: 2-5
  • Size: 30x30 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_01_solomon_islands.wowsreplay
Based on the Solomon Islands chain, this map evokes the naval engagements of the Battle of Guadalcanal and the legacy of Ironbottom Sound. It seems large for Tier II and III ships, but by Tier V it can start to feel claustrophobic. The central channel is frequently patrolled by enemy destroyers, forcing most of the main surface engagements into the northeast and southwest corners. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Big_Race_screen.png
Big_Race.png

Big Race

  • Battle Tiers: 2-5
  • Size: 30x30 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_10_NE_big_race.wowsreplay
Big Race features numerous large islands in a fairly symmetrical layout. The islands feature large enough mountains which can provide cover from short and long ranged fire. It is unavailable for higher tier matches. The action on this map typically occurs around the northeast and southwest corners, with intermittent destroyer battles in the center. It is a fairly balanced map for both sides due to its highly symmetrical nature. Do note however, that as the opposing teams spawn so close together, some ships will be able to shoot each other within a short period of time. This map can be played in either Epicenter or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Archipelago_screen.png
Archipelago.png

Archipelago

  • Battle Tiers: 3-5
  • Size: 30x30 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_04_Archipelago.wowsreplay
Archipelago echoes the islands of the Far East, somewhere in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean. This tranquil region has traditionally been a safe harbor for scientific research, but now it suddenly finds itself an arena of vicious naval battles. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Ring_screen.png
Ring.png

Ring

  • Battle Tiers: 4-6
  • Size: 36x36 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_05_Ring.wowsreplay
Ring is a group of small Pacific tropical islands like Hawaii, with a key group of ring-like islands in the center. These islands can provide reliable cover or become a deadly trap, so be on guard! Holding the "ring" is also important. If the enemy team takes it, it will take a focused attack to drive them out. There is enough open space for comfortable firing at long range, but losing control of the islands means vulnerability to torpedo attacks from the center. Available in Standard Battle and Domination modes.

Strait_screen.png
Strait.png

Strait

  • Battle Tiers: 4-7
  • Size: 36x36 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_08_NE_passage.wowsreplay
Styled after the coastlines of the Adriatic and northern Mediterranean Seas, Strait is a challenging map for teams to play well. Both teams spawn in split groups, and there are virtually no good places for aircraft carriers to avoid enemy surface ships if they are spotted. The center is often heavily infested by destroyers of both teams, as they vie for control of the all-important central channel that allows quick reinforcement of friendly ships in the north or south. This map can be played in either Epicenter, three-area Domination, or two-base Standard Battle mode.

New_Dawn_screen.png
New_Dawn.png

New Dawn

  • Battle Tiers: 4-7
  • Size: 36x36 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_13_OC_new_dawn.wowsreplay
New Dawn is a well-balanced map, one played frequently as captains work through the middle tiers of the various ship lines. This map typically has heavy action in the northwest and southeast quadrants, with the spawn points and bases (in Standard Battle mode) being in the northeast and southwest. It is full of numerous terrain features that can be used to obscure visibility and reduce the chances of getting hit; however, many of these islands are low enough for experienced players to shoot over and land hits with plunging fire, so choose cover carefully. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Fault_Line_screen.png
Fault_Line.png

Fault Line

  • Battle Tiers: 5-7
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_17_NA_fault_line.wowsreplay
Fault Line is a heavily congested map, with dozens of choke points allowing for close-range battleship combat and potential torpedo ambushes by enemy ships. There are only a few open areas: the far west has decent sightlines for long-range combat, as do as the center, north-center, and south-center portions of the map. The center area is particularly deadly to cruisers, who can potentially have enemies firing on them from multiple directions early in a match with very little cover or avenues of escape. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Trident_screen.png
Trident.png

Trident

  • Battle Tiers: 6-8
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_41_Conquest.wowsreplay
Trident features an archipelago resembling those found in the Indian Ocean. The small islands make for excellent hiding places from which to launch surprise attacks and torpedo salvoes. It is one of the first maps to feature time-of-day variants: battles will occur at either dawn, morning, dusk, or night. This map can be played in either Epicenter, three-area Domination, or two-base Standard Battle mode.

North_screen.png
North.png

North

  • Battle Tiers: 6-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_15_NE_north.wowsreplay
North is one of the larger maps in the game, featuring a wide open area of sea in the west, island congestion in the middle, and a somewhat hybrid area of restricted open sea to the east. Combat most commonly occurs to the far east and far west, whilst destroyers and some cruisers skirmish across the various island gaps in the middle. This map can be played in either four-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Northern_Lights_screen.png
Northern_Lights.png

Northern Lights

  • Battle Tiers: 6-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_35_NE_north_winter.wowsreplay
This map is a variant of the North map; the battle takes place at night under the lights of the aurora borealis, but all of the terrain and islands are identical to North. This map can be played in either four-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Estuary_screen.png
Estuary.png

Estuary

  • Battle Tiers: 7-9
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_46_Estuary.wowsreplay
The mountain ranges in the center of Estuary make artillery battles tricky, but also provide opportunities to sneak salvos through with their extensive gaps in the terrain. Given the tiers of ships it sees, this map tends to play very quickly, especially given the nearly direct access enemy destroyers have through the center to opposing capture points. This map can be played in either four-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Shards_screen.png
Shards.png

Shards

  • Battle Tiers: 7-9
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_23_Shards.wowsreplay
Fighting on Shards takes place amongst the islands between Iceland and Scandinavia. This grim-looking location is dotted with fishing settlements and marine bases to support polar convoys. The wide-open central cap is enticing to battleships, while lighter units will find themselves vying for control of the flanks. This map can only be played in three-area Domination Battle mode.

Neighbors_screen.png
Neighbors.png

Neighbors

  • Battle Tiers: 7-9
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_42_Neighbors.wowsreplay
Neighbors imagines a naval battle in fictional waters somewhere between the shores of England and occupied France. Teams spawn very close to - or within - their respective naval bases before sortieing to engage the enemy. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Haven_screen.png
Haven.png

Haven

  • Battle Tiers: 7-10
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_50_Gold_harbor.wowsreplay
Haven is an archipelago of small, uninhabited islands in the Atlantic Ocean, at the fringes of the British Empire. Fight amid barren and beautiful islands formed by constant ocean winds. Teamwork is key: vital areas are hard to capture, while plentiful cover offers many opportunities for sneaky play. This map also offers the chance for sudden engagements and frequent close range encounters, so stay alert and choose which routes to sail very carefully, especially battleship commanders!  Available in Standard Battle and Domination modes.

Two_Brothers_screen.png
Two_Brothers.png

Two Brothers

  • Battle Tiers: 7-10
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_20_NE_two_brothers.wowsreplay
The central gap between the namesake Two Brothers is a source of either misery or hilarity on this map, depending on what each team decides to try and how successful they are with it. The quick, direct access to the opposing capture point sometimes leads to early victories as players rush up the center hoping to catch the enemy off guard. More commonly, however, combat occurs in the eastern and western island groupings, with the central channel only coming into play very late in the game. This map can be played in either four-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Hotspot_screen.png
Hotspot.png

Hotspot

  • Battle Tiers: 8-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_16_OC_bees_to_honey.wowsreplay
Hotspot drops players into the battle in the middle of an island chain somewhere in the South Pacific. The east is heavily constricted by numerous small islands, while the west is dominated by a trio of tall, mountainous outcroppings that allow for limited long-range combat through the gaps. The center is mostly open water, safe only for destroyers and similar ships with low detectability. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Land_of_Fire_screen.png
Land_of_Fire.png

Land of Fire

  • Battle Tiers: 8-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_22_tierra_del_fuego.wowsreplay
Also known as "Tierra del Fuego", Land of Fire features a series of long and narrow rock ridges that ships can use as cover. The west is open enough for comfortable battleship combat, while the archipelago in the east is frequented by destroyers and cruisers looking for closer-range combat and torpedo strikes. The center of the map is very open, though routes east from the center are limited by an island chain breaking up the map. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Trap_screen.png
Trap.png

Trap

  • Battle Tiers: 8-10
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_19_OC_prey.wowsreplay
Featuring a dormant volcano in the center, Trap is a map that rewards patient teams. Fleets typically clash in the northeast and southwest before turning to contest the center, but beware: once in the center, there's almost no way out. This map can only be played in three-area Domination Battle mode.

Tears_of_the_Desert_screen.png
Tears_of_the_Desert.png

Tears of the Desert

  • Battle Tiers: 8-10
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_28_naval_mission.wowsreplay
Resembling the North African coast, the island layout of Tears of the Desert tends to focus combat towards the southwest and northeast corners. Movement into the center from either spawn point is heavily restricted by islands, and ships with large detection radii that do move into the middle frequently find themselves under fire from multiple directions. This map can be played in either Epicenter, three-area Domination, or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Okinawa_screen.png
Okinawa.png

Okinawa

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_40_Okinawa.wowsreplay
Inspired by the real-life location, Okinawa represents a series of small islands off the southwestern coast of the main island of Okinawa itself. The northwestern quadrant of the map is heavily constricted by these islands, leaving it primarily to the purvue of destroyers and particularly brave cruiser captains. The more open southeastern reaches tend to see the majority of battleship combat. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Ice_Islands_screen.png
Ice_Islands.png

Ice Islands

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_18_NE_ice_islands.wowsreplay
Islands of Ice is one of several larger maps available for high-tier play, with a combination of open spaces and congested channels. Battleships will sometimes engage in long range gun duels straight out of spawn, while destroyers will make for the narrow passages to capture points in Domination and launch torpedo attacks at the battle lines that form. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

The_Atlantic_screen.png
The_Atlantic.png

The Atlantic

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 42x42 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_14_Atlantic.wowsreplay
Modeled after the region around Portugal's Azore Island archipelago, The Atlantic showcases the island chain that was often referred to as "the crossroads of the Atlantic." Its location made it a strategically important region during World War II. This map can be played in either three-area Domination mode.

Shatter_screen.png
Shatter.png

Shatter

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_38_Canada.wowsreplay
World War II battlegrounds are often thought of being far away from North America, but it wasn't unheard of for Axis naval units to patrol the waters closer to home. Shatter represents the eastern coast of Canada - perhaps somewhere not far from Newfoundland, Labrador, or Nova Scotia - and features a tightly packed cluster of tall, mountainous islands surrounded by a lot of open water. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Mountain_Range_screen.png
Mountain_Range.png

Mountain Range

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_37_Ridge.wowsreplay
Modeled after the South China Sea - an area fraught with centuries of naval conflict - Mountain Range features exotic islands encircled by sheer cliffs. A long, north-south chain of islands segregates the western third of the map from rest, and the east is packed with a dense archipelago that invites destroyers in so they can ambush unwary opponents. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Warrior's_Path_screen.png
Warrior's_Path.png

Warrior's Path

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_44_Path_warrior.wowsreplay
A hypothetical Canadian archipelago is the setting for Warrior's Path. Opposing teams must navigate through numerous islands in order to engage the enemy, and only careful positioning will allow capital ships to support their teammates without risk of crippling torpedo strikes from destroyers lurking amongst the rocks. This map can only be played in three-area Domination Battle mode.

Sea_of_Fortune_screen.png
Sea_of_Fortune.png

Sea of Fortune

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_25_sea_hope.wowsreplay
Somewhere between France and Great Britain lies Sea of Fortune, with interesting gameplay potential in multiple directions. The right flank is ideal for aggressive battles involving cruisers and battleships, while the left flank is suitable for long-range firefights because of the relatively low height of the islands. The center of the map has an important strait passing through it and a small picturesque island complete with a castle. This map can only be played in three-area Domination Battle mode.

Loop_screen.png
Loop.png

Loop

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_45_Zigzag.wowsreplay
A fictional location somewhere near the crossing of sea lanes, Loop contains two groups of Portuguese islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Large islands provide opportunities for defense and unexpected breakthroughs. Due to the dense arrangement of the islands, players must plan their route in advance in order to assist their allies. This map can only be played in three-area Domination Battle mode.

Sleeping_Giant_screen.png
Sleeping_Giant.png

Sleeping Giant

  • Battle Tiers: 9-10
  • Size: 48x48 km
Styled after the island archipelagos of the Chinese coast, Sleeping Giant is relatively symmetrical and provides equal opportunities for both teams, encouraging dynamic gameplay. In Domination mode, large, low-rising islands you can fire from behind surround the Key Area on the left. Several straits between the right and center Key Areas allow movement from one Key Area to the other under cover.

Ocean_screen.png
Ocean.png

Ocean

  • Battle Tier: 10
  • Size: 36x36 km
  • Replay File Name: xxx_00_CO_ocean.wowsreplay
As its name suggests, Ocean is the simplest, most straightforward map in the game. It features absolutely no terrain, making it difficult for certain classes of ships to utilize some of their advantages. It does, however, allow for battleships to maximize their range advantage, as well as providing excellent attack vectors for destroyers with the capability to launch torpedoes from stealth. Aircraft can have a large impact on the battle given the lack of cover available for enemy ships. This map can be played in either three-area Domination or two-base Standard Battle mode.

Tutorial

  • Battle Tiers: Tutorial Only
  • Replay File Name: xxx_i01_tutorial.wowsreplay
The tutorial map can only be played via the Introductory Mission that new players have. It features a set battle with the player piloting a cruiser fighting against enemy defense forces. Depending on the nation selected, enemies will be from an opposing nation. There are special coastal defense batteries that appear in no other map, but they never target the player. Due to the limited usage of the map, data is hard to obtain for it.

  • Battle Tiers: Special Ships Only
For the April 2016 April Fool's day surprise, World of Warships released the Scrub-a-dub-dub game mode. The game takes place in a giant bath tub inside the Bad Advice Captain's bathroom. The tub itself is filled with a variety of floating bath toys that are used as terrain cover. Players captain one of four different ships each representing a nation. The map only has a Domination game mode where there are four capture zones in the center of the map.

  • Battle Tiers: Special Ships Only
For the October 2016 Halloween event, World of Warships has released the "Saving Transylvania" Scenario game mode. Players queue up in one of three event ships — steampunk variants of Nassau, St. Louis, and Wakatake — in a mission to escort the ship Transilvania to safe harbor. The map itself is devilishly dark and sinister, with fixed shore batteries and endless waves of enemies.
