Special

Neustrashimy — Soviet special premium Tier IX destroyer.

Adopted in 1945, a 10-year military shipbuilding program envisaged building 226 "standard" destroyers. Some of them were to fall under Project 30bis, which had been successfully accommodated by the industrial sector, while others were designated a new class. In 1949, the new lead ship of Project 41, Neustrashimy, was laid down at the Zhdanov yard in Leningrad. A total of 110 destroyers were planned to be built, but the series production of such a complex ship was canceled in favor of the Project 56 destroyers.

Player Opinion

Performance

Neustrashimy can be very closely compared to the Grozovoi one tier higher. While having one less turret than the Grozovoi, Neustrashimy trades that for better concealment. The ship is very much a jack-of-all-trades ship, combining gunboat aspects from the Soviet destroyer line, Japanese level of stealth, and American torpedo performance.

The gunpower is the most obvious characteristic of the Neustrashimy. With only 4 guns per salvo, Neustrashimy's salvo is lacking in power. The damage output is still passable, but it is 2/3 of a Grozovoi in terms of gunpower. The guns are on two turrets with two guns each, so if one is knocked out the gunpower is halved. This makes module survivability extremely important, with so few guns each one matters a lot more.

Concealment on the Neustrashimy is outstanding, with even better concealment than Shimakaze. This concealment is unheard of for the rest of the Russian destroyers. Neustrashimy can use the stealth to get in the face of enemies and launch torps, as well as sneak up to enemy destroyers and ambush them. While it only has 4 guns, it deals enough damage to handle most other destroyers, and with concealment advantage the Neustrashimy gets the first attack in. Maneuverability is slightly better than that of the Grozovoi, but still short of other destroyers.

The torpedoes are a mixed bag, on one hand the torpedoes do more damage than the tech tree counterparts. However, 10km torpedo range can be lacking in matches with high amounts of radar or presence of aircraft carriers. Nevertheless, the Neustrashimy are a great utility tool to use whenever targets do get into range and can deal great damage.

Pros:

    Cons:

    • With only 4 guns spread between 2 turrets, Neustrashimy lacks firepower compared to other Soviet destroyers, Udaloi and Tashkent
    • The concentration of all of Neustrashimys firepower in two turrets means that losing a turret halves your firepower.
    • Relatively short torpedo range of 10km means Captains have to get dangerously close to the radar range of other ships.
    • Large size and lousy turning circle mean that Neustrashimy can be hit easily at range.

    Research

As a premium ship, Neustrashimy doesn't have any upgrades to research.

    Optimal Configuration

    Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Neustrashimy are as follows:

Since Neustrashimy is essentially a slower, stealthier version of Grozovoi with one less turret and worse AA, players can treat the destroyer in a similar manner albeit with some variation. A more 'generalist' build focusing on preserving the engine module and armament modules (especially since the destroyer only has two turrets) is advised, although the choice in Slot 6 will depend on if the player would rather take advantage of their destroyer's torpedoes, or stick to improving the gunnery abilities of the ship.

Since Neustrashimy has access to the Defensive AA FireWhile active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased. consumable, it is also possible to utilize an AA build with this ship. If the player wishes to pursue this path, they should equip AA Guns Modification 1 +20% reduction in the preparation time of the priority AA sector. into Slot 3, and if they are willing to sacrifice the potentially boost to damage against ships, place AA Guns Modification 2 (OBSOLETE Replaced by Auxiliary Armaments Modification 2.) in Slot 6 instead of upgrades to improve gun or torpedo battery performance. Coupled with the appropriate captain skills such as Basic Firing Training and/or Advanced Firing Training, as well as the November Echo Setteseven (+5% continuous damage by all AA guns, +5% damage per second within the explosion radius of shells fired from medium- and long-range AA defenses.) flag, the player can turn Neustrashimy into a potent AA destroyer.

    Commander Skills

Key skills for Neustrashimy commanders include a similar to Grozovoi, due to their superficial similarity; with a higher emphasis on survivability. Due to Neustrashimy's poise as a jack-of-all-trades, Captains are at the liberty to alter their set; preferring guns or torpedoes as they see fit.

    Consumables

Neustrashimy can equip the following consumables:

    Camouflage

As a premium ship, Neustrashimy comes included with Type 10 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

    Signals

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
