Removed outdated reference to OWSF being possible in this ship. OWSF was removed, so that Pro was outdated. Also reworked speed Pro. The ship is NOT especially fast, so I downgraded that Pro a bit.

Ognevoi — Soviet Tier VIII destroyer.

Developed from the Gnevny-class destroyers, the ship (Project 30) featured a larger displacement. In contrast to her predecessors, she boasted improved armor protection for artillery and a more powerful torpedo armament.

Player Opinion

Performance

Ognevoi is, in some ways, an improvement over the Tier VII Minsk, but at the same time is also a bit of a disappointment in some respects. She has the same 130 mm B-13 guns as Minsk, but these now come in twin mounts in enclosed B-2LM turrets, which will remain standard for all the following Soviet destroyers.

On Ognevoi, these turrets can be a mixed blessing. They have a much faster traverse speed than Minsk’s open mounts, which allows the ship to respond better to changes in the battle. However, with only two turrets, losing a single turret can be severely crippling to Ognevoi, effectively halving the ship's firepower. Thankfully, losing turrets entirely is a rarity once Main Armaments Modification 1 -20% to the risk of main battery becoming incapacitated. / +50% to main battery survivability. / -20% to main battery repair time. / -20% to the risk of torpedo tubes becoming incapacitated. / +50% to torpedo tubes survivability. / -20% to torpedo tubes repair time. is installed. Her 10.0 km torpedo range gives Ognevoi a decent fallback should the worst occur.

Ognevoi also has worse concealment and a larger silhouette, which makes her somewhat easier to hit than Minsk. She is also significantly slower than Minsk, with fewer hit points to boot.

Having said that, Ognevoi still has the same excellent 130 mm guns that Minsk uses, and they are still competitive at Tier VIII. Their high rate-of-fire and accuracy make them ideal for harassing distracted targets, and cruisers that wander too close showing their broadsides will find their HP deleted quite rapidly from repeated citadel penetrations. With the faster turret traverse, Ognevoi can better handle itself in close quarters combat, but it will still lose to American destroyers with their faster rate-of-fire.

Pros:

  • Small turning circle compared to the other Russian destroyers.
  • Workable speed. Not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but hey, it's way better than Akizuki's.
  • Turret traverse is incredibly good compared to its predecessors.
  • Good rate of fire.
  • 10.0 km torpedo range allows for launching torpedoes from stealth at mid-ranges.
  • Gains access to the Defensive AA FireWhile active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased. consumable.

Cons:

  • All main guns are concentrated in only two turrets, vulnerable to being disabled.
  • Although she has relatively good concealment for a Russian destroyer, she will still be out spotted by Benson and Kagero.

Research

Quickly research the upgraded main battery 130 mm/55 B-2-U and the (B) Hull, as the (B) Hull increases the amount of torpedoes armed on Ognevoi from two triple-tube launchers to two quintuple-tube ones, significantly increases the anti-air power, lowers rudder shift time, and unlocks the option for Defensive AA FireWhile active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased. consumable in the Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. consumable slot. Then research the upgraded Gun Fire Control System for better main battery range.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Ognevoi are as follows:

Captains who wish to forego some stealth in favor of being a harder target to hit should also consider Steering Gears Modification 2 (: -40% rudder shift time. / -80% repair time.) in Slot 5.

Captains who have one of the rare Engine Boost Modification 1 Increases the action time of the Engine Boost and Emergency Engine Power consumables.: +50% action time. upgrades and has the Sierra Mike (+5% to the ship's maximum speed.) signal equipped, are encouraged to replace the Propulsion Modification 1 upgrade, as it extends the Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. consumable duration by 50%, thereby allowing her to maintain a max speed of 42.0 knots for three minutes.

Commander Skills

Consumables

Ognevoi can equip the following consumables:

It is worthwhile to note that Ognevoi has very similar main armament array to American destroyer Benson and similar concealment. Players used to equipping Benson with Defensive AA FireWhile active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased. instead of Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. may find it worthwhile on Ognevoi. However, it should be noted that the anti-air potential of Ognevoi is somewhat weaker than Benson’s.

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflages can be equipped for credits; Type 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum, as they reduce detectability range.

Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Ognevoi with Type 18 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Signals

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
