Tough choices also abound at Tier 3. Torpedo Acceleration is appealing, lowering her torpedo range to 8.0 km while increasing the top speed of her Type 90 torpedoes to 67 knots. This gives enemies approximately 0.7 seconds less of reaction time. Vigilance is also a good option, allowing ''Shiratsuyu'' captains to avoid enemy torpedoes easier themselves as well as spot them for teammates. Superintendent might also be a good pick for captains who don't wish to spend credits on premium consumables. | Tough choices also abound at Tier 3. Originally planned to be built as ''[[Hatsuharu]]'' class destroyers, ''Shiratsuyu'' and her sister ships had their design altered following the discovery of the stability issues with the preceding vessels. The draft of the ship was greatly increased while beam was decreased slightly. Her superstructure was also significantly smaller than that on ''Hatsuharu''. Additionally, the destroyer’s armament and armament placement were slightly altered. The second turret was mounted on the aft of the ship and the third torpedo launcher was removed but the existing ones were replaced with quadruple launchers. ''Shiratsuyu'' also retained the same machinery used on ''Hatsuharu'' but due to the greater displacement, was significantly slower. | Originally planned to be built as ''[[Hatsuharu]]'' class destroyers, ''Shiratsuyu'' and her sister ships had their design altered following the discovery of the stability issues with the preceding vessels. Player Opinion
Performance
Tier VII's Shiratsuyu is an improvement upon Hatsuharu in a few small but notable ways.
The first is Shiratsuyu’s main battery guns. She has one more barrel than her immediate predecessor, carrying 5 guns with a longer range. Due to the stealth fire changes of patch 0.6.3, she can no longer fire from stealth. However, she still can and will pose a significant threat to other destroyers, should her captain decide to use her guns.
Her improved torpedo armament is also of note. Shiratsuyu moves from the two triple-tube launchers found on Hatsuharu to a pair of quadruple-tube launchers. She can also upgrade to the Type 90 torpedo if desired, increasing the punch and speed of her fish. Shiratsuyu also gains access to an improved version of the Torpedo Reload Booster consumable, that forces her tubes to reload in only 5 seconds, and has a cooldown 240 seconds when compared to the 360 seconds of other ships with this consumable. In addition, the premium version of this consumable reloads in a blistering 160 seconds. Unfortunately, she must give up her Smoke Generator to equip the Torpedo Reload Booster. Using the consumable allows Shiratsuyu to put up to 16 torpedoes into the water in a very short amount of time, sort of an early look at what awaits Japanese destroyer captains at the top of the branch in Tier X's Shimakaze.
While she retains Hatsuharu’s low detection radius, her anti-aircraft suite actually gets worse. Shiratsuyu’s speed and rudder shift performance are also a downgrade; while the latter is not really noticeable, the former definitely is. She is highly vulnerable to enemy aircraft and gunboat destroyers that are faster than she is (such as Sims, Kiev, or Leningrad).
Nonetheless, Shiratsuyu is a well-rounded Tier VII destroyer with excellent torpedoes and guns that are more than capable of contributing to her damage output when used judiciously in the right situations.Pros:
- Much improved main battery guns over Hatsuharu: more barrels and longer range.
- Larger torpedo armament than Hatsuharu, as well: two quadruple-tube launchers (compared to two triple-tubes).
- Can equip much better torpedoes than her predecessors. Shiratsuyu’s fish travel faster and hit harder.
- Has access to a version of the Torpedo Reload Booster consumable that will cooldown in 240 seconds standard, and 160 seconds premium.
- Best-in-tier detection radius (6.7 km).
Cons:
- Weak anti-aircraft suite is even worse than Hatsuharu; Shiratsuyu’s main battery guns are not dual-purpose and add nothing to her AA defense.
- Excruciatingly long torpedo reload time.
- Smallest health pool of all Tier VII destroyers.
- Slowest top speed of any Tier VII destroyer.
- Main battery traverse time still painfully slow, as is typical of Japanese destroyer guns.

Optimal Configuration
Upgrades
Most of the upgrades Shiratsuyu captains will equip are pretty self-explanatory; there isn't a lot of variety available to significantly improve her performance. Upgrade Slot 1 is best filled with Main Armaments Modification 1. Most captains will opt for Aiming Systems Modification 1 in Upgrade Slot 2, but Main Battery Modification 2 is also a decent choice. When combined with Tier 1 commander skill Basic Firing Training, the impact to Shiratsuyu’s reload time is negligible while the improvement to her turret rotation is notable. Propulsion Modification 1 is the number one pick for Upgrade Slot 4 in order to protect Shiratsuyu’s mobility; Propulsion Modification 2 is recommended in Upgrade Slot 5 for similar reasons.
Commander Skills
Commander skill points are best spent on Basic Firing Training at Tier 1 and Concealment Expert at Tier 5. The tiers in between offer some interesting options.
Tier 2's Torpedo Armament Expertise is always attractive to Japanese destroyer captains. Given that it is the only way to lower Shiratsuyu’s annoyingly long torpedo time, it's a great place to spend points. Captains who fear of having their engine disabled more will want to consider Last Stand instead. Expert Marksman also offers a significant buff to her turret rotation speed.
Tough choices also abound at Tier 3. Torpedo Acceleration is appealing, lowering her torpedo range to 8.0 km while increasing the top speed of her Type 90 torpedoes to 67 knots. This gives enemies approximately 0.7 seconds less of reaction time. Vigilance is also a good option, allowing Shiratsuyu captains to avoid enemy torpedoes easier themselves as well as spot them for teammates. Superintendent might also be a good pick for captains who don't wish to spend credits on premium consumables.
Tier 4 brings Demolition Expert, Advanced Firing Training, and Survivability Expert; all excellent choices for destroyers. Survivability Expert helps shore up one of Shiratsuyu’s biggest weaknesses: her health pool; Advanced Firing Training offers to maximize one of her strengths: her main battery range. Demolition Expert helps make her main battery guns more effective at lighting enemy ships on fire. All are viable options. Advanced Firing Training likely offers the most generic utility.

Consumables
Shiratsuyu can equip the following consumables:
- Slot 1: Damage Control Party
- Slot 2: Smoke Generator or Torpedo Reload Booster
- Slot 3: Engine Boost
Shiratsuyu’s improved Torpedo Reload Booster is an appealing choice for veteran captains, who are able to forego her Smoke Generator. As with most destroyers, investing Damage Control Party II is also encouraged to repair broken modules more quickly. The premium versions Smoke Generator is also recommended due to Shiratsuyu’s low top speed if the player doesn't want to use her Torpedo Reload Booster; she's likely to need her smoke to escape someone she didn't want to run into at close range. Engine Boost II isn't really needed.
Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectability range.
Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Shiratsuyu with Type 17 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
Signals
Sierra Mike is probably the single most important signal flag that Shiratsuyu captains can equip. Other recommended flags would be Juliet Whiskey Unaone, Juliet Charlie, and — given how important some of her consumables are — November Foxtrot.Gallery
Shiratsuyu uses every available weapon against an enemy Colorado class battleship.
