? | HMS ''Warspite'' was a ''Queen Elizabeth''-class battleship, the sixth warship of the Royal Navy to carry the name. Her thirty-year career covered both world wars and took her across the Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Pacific Oceans. She was involved in several major engagements, including battles in the North Sea and Mediterranean, earning her the most battle honors ever awarded to an individual ship in the Royal Navy and the most awarded for actions during the Second World War. For this and other reasons ''Warspite'' gained the nickname the "Grand Old Lady" after a comment made by her most famous commander, Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham in 1943. | | + | HMS ''Warspite'' was a ''Queen Elizabeth''-class battleship, the sixth warship of the Royal Navy to carry the name. However, the new "fast battleships" proved to be an outstanding success during the First World War. ''Warspite'' was refitted twice between the wars, but advances in technology and the cumulative effects of battle damage relegated her to the role of shore bombardment towards the end of the Second World War. She was decommissioned in 1945 and wrecked off the Cornish coast on the way to the scrap yard. | | |

When she was launched in 1913, the use of oil as fuel and untried 15-inch guns were revolutionary concepts in the naval arms race between Britain and Germany, and represented a considerable risk for Winston Churchill - then First Lord of the Admiralty - and Admiral John Fisher (who had advocated the design). Warspite — British special premium Tier VI battleship.
HMS Warspite joined the Fifth Battleship Squadron in 1915. She participated in the Battle of Jutland and was the flagship of the Mediterranean Fleet after World War I. With the start of World War II, the ship was transferred to the Home Fleet and participated in the Battle of Narvik, where she sank a German destroyer. In 1940, she returned to the Mediterranean Sea and managed to hit the flagship of the Italian fleet during the Battle of Punta Stilo. In 1941, the ship sank two Italian heavy cruisers during the Battle of Cape Matapan. In 1943–1944, the battleship covered the landing of Allied troops in Sicily and Normandy as part of the Eastern Fleet.

Player Opinion
Performance
Pros:
- Biggest main guns of any ship at her tier.
- Good all around armor.
- Excellent turning radius and good rudder shift time.
- Reasonably fast for a dreadnought.
- Stealthy for a Tier VI battleship; if the circumstances are ideal Warspite can fire off her salvo first, potentially rattling the enemy.
- Damage Control Party takes 90 seconds to cooldown like cruiser, much faster than 120 seconds on most other battleships.
- Repair Party is able to repair more damage than battleships of other nations.
- Reasonable credit maker.
- Surprisingly tight shell grouping compared to New Mexico and Fuso.
- Secondaries have much higher accuracy and shorter reload time in comparison to Japanese counterparts, and they fire HE making them excellent against destroyers and good at setting other ships on fire.
- Secondaries have 5km base range (can be pushed to 7.2km with Advanced Firing Training and Secondary Battery Modification 2) and are more accurate then most secondaries at her tier.
Cons:
- Takes a rather long time to reach top speed.
- Mediocre torpedo protection for its tier (24%)
- Big superstructure means that you will take lots of damage from cruiser and even some DD's
- Only eight main guns so every shot matters even more.
- Low shell velocity.
- Short maximum firing range of only 16.3km; cannot mount range upgrade mod like US counterpart to increase range.
- Very slow turret traverse time of 72 seconds means she can't effectively respond to rapid situations, though Expert Marksman mitigates this slightly.
- Despite having a fast cooldown, Damage Control Party is only active for 5 seconds (like on cruisers and destroyers).
- Virtually no anti-aircraft defense.
Research
As a premium ship, Warspite doesn't have any upgrades to research.
Optimal Configuration
Camouflage
As a premium ship,
Warspite comes included with
Type 10 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
