The O-I is a Japanese tier 6 heavy tank.
Development of the superheavy tank was started after the Battles of Khalkhyn Gol in 1939. The vehicle was designed as a maneuverable fire unit that was unprecedented in scale—its hull alone weighed 100 tons. Only one prototype was built, without a turret and made of construction steel. Trials were discontinued due to the unreliable engine; at the end of 1944, the prototype was scrapped. The 15 cm howitzer was to be mounted on the tank after its assembly.
The O-I leads to the O-Ni.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Massively powerful 150 MM howitzer; similar to KV-2's 152mm
- Howitzer is more accurate than KV-2's one.
- Painless stock grind, being equiped with a 10cm gun similar to the T-150's top gun
- Good overall armor, able to bounce shots if properly angled
- Oddly well armored rear, making it usable for reverse side scraping.
Cons:
- Absolutely massive size (widest and probably the biggest tank in the game), easy to hit
- Slow reload, and horrid accuracy on the Howitzer, but should be expected. 10cm gun is also pretty inaccurate.
- Radio range is fairly short, with the comparable medium (Chi-To) Having 750M range
- Suffers frequent damage to ammo rack which makes your howitzer gun take over 40 seconds to reload.
- Armor is mostly flat making it extremely worthless once the enemy switches to gold ammo
Performance
The O-I takes a major leap forwards in terms of armour, doubling the frontal and rear armour thickness, compared to your experimental brother. However for this huge improvement in armour protection, the mobility and agility of the tank is sacrificed due to the tank getting 50 tons heavier while retaining the engine from the previous tank which will feel extremely uncomfortable to play coming straight from the O-I Experimental.
In terms of firepower, the O-I has it in spades. Stock, the tank comes with an excellent 10cm gun capable of going through any tank you might have to face while dealing respectable damage with decent accuracy but a rather long aimtime. There is a second gun for the O-I and it is a 15cm derp cannon similar to that mounted on the KV-2 with a slightly slower rate of fire, lower accuracy and a horrid aim time. However this gun can be a lot of fun to play with especially when striking lightly armoured foes with is common at tier 6.
Gameplay with the 10cm gun allows you to engage targets at a longer range and with a decent rate of fire, allows you to play a more supportive role by sniping when you are bottom tier. When this gun, it allows to O-I to laugh at opposing heavy tank's armour while you effortlessly bounce incoming fire. With the 10cm gun, it also allows you to more reliably handle opposing O-Is.
With the 15cm derp cannon, your playstyle will have to change radically to make up for the shortcomings of the gun's long aimtime and poor accuracy. This means that getting up close and personal in any brawl will allow you to negate your gun's main problems and make sure every shell hits. Having knowledge of what might appear in front of your tank is crucial as well to make sure the correct shell is loaded. The AP shells in the 15cm gun is better than that on the KV-2 with improved penetration. 121mm may not seem like much but at tier 6 it is sufficient to go through many tanks frontally. In exchange for the better AP shells, the HE shells do not penetrate as much armour as compared to the ones on the KV-2. However thin-skinned targets with be wrecked easily by it. And when you are bottom tier, the large caliber HE shell will allow you to do damage in all situations if the shell hits.
In conclusion, the O-I is ridiculously powerful for a tier 6 vehicle with a flexible choice of guns for different playstyles. The O-I has also seen jncreased use in tier 6 strongholds due to it's armour and derp gun.
Early Research
- Research the Howitzer, its what makes this tank.
- Alternatively, using the 10cm gun on this tank gives it reliable damage and penetration to targets up to tier 8.
- Research the radio(s), without it, you can't range in anything over the 300 metre mark. If you went up the Japanese mediums, this should be unlocked.
- Then Tracks, every single degree per second helps.
- Lastly the engine, it doesn't speed it up much, you *may* be able to skip this, but you will most likely want to continue playing this tank, so do so anyway.
