Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

VI

AnnoS01_Strv_74_A2.png

3700

The Strv m/42-57 Alt A.2 is a Swedish tier 6 premium medium tank.

As part of development of the Strv 74, a project was proposed for a vehicle with the oscillating turret of the French AMX 13 tank and the 7,5 cm kan strv 74 gun; however, the vehicle was never built.

While it may not have the excellent gun depression angles and dynamics of Swedish mediums, the Strv m/42-57 Alt A.2 (which is quite a mouthful to say) is a great sniper tank. With its ability to inflict high burst damage, and good soft stats (for an autoloader), it can be surprisingly effective if in the hands of a skilled tank commander. Its autoloading gun can do enormous damage even to some softer tier 8's. But its gun often loses potential on tier 7 and tier 8 battles, when the 149 penetration is just not that effective like it is in tier 6 battles.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Enormous clip potential - 600 average damage per clip.
  • Great reload of less than 16 seconds with a good crew.
  • One of the best aim times and good accuracy for an autoloader at tier 6.
  • Good penetration.
  • Relatively small target, especially when compared to other tier 6 mediums.

Cons:

  • Very thin armor and low health pool
  • Frequent module damage; the engine can be damaged/destroyed from the front
  • Mediocre gun depression and elevation
  • Poor dispersion values
  • Below average mobility for a medium tank

Performance

If you like sniper vehicles and know how to play with them, the strv m is a perfect decision for you. The first, what you will see on this tank, its the configuration. Why does this large tank have this small turret?! The answer is that is is practical. Imagine this tank only with turret exposed biting down your hp when you are unable to hit this. You see? And if you train the crew on 100%, add Camo net, Binoculars and GLD, this tank becomes a real monster. Not only it´s small, but it´s accurate, hard to hit and it has a great penetration and shell velocity to all this too! So if you know how to play sniper class in this game, this is tank for you.

Noob guide

So, you bought your first premium tank and you did choose this tank. OK decision, but you will need to learn how to play this. The first step is, that you need to mount equipment. If you have a good amount of credits, buy Binoculars, Camo Net and Gun Laying Drive. If you are poor, buy Spall Liner, Camo Net and Ventilation. If you don´t have money, just let it be and try to play well. So, the first step is to know that this tank is a sniper. Stay in your cover and go away only when there are only few enemies left or you are in danger. Use the C key when nothing is going and you don´t have a full magazine. Aim fully and be always patient. Your prey will be predictable, but you aren´t a tank like the Matilda, so pick your shots carefully and make every shot count. You should be aware of any high damage dealing tank, because these will most likely cripple your tank´s modules and crew. Aim at weakspots in high tier battle, as your shells will most likely ricochet from them. Use APCR, but it isn´t as reliable, so shoot weakspots. Try not to shoot at front higher tiers, but instead shoot their back and sides from distance. Good luck commander, see you on the battlefield.

Historical Info

The Stridsvagn m/42 (Strv m/42) was a Swedish medium tank in service during the World War II period and early post-war years. The 22-ton Strv m/42 was developed from improvements to the Lago medium tank, after the Swedish Army specified requirements for a bigger and better tank. The tank was modern in design, well protected and mobile. Initially ordered in November 1941, a total of 287 (including prototypes) were produced from 1941 to 1945.

The Strv m/42 featured a 75mm L/34 gun, the first gun of its size in a Swedish tank. This gun had similar performance to the German 75mm guns used on early Panzer IV tanks and StuG III assault guns.

Four versions of the Strv m/42 were produced, by AB Landsverk and under license by Volvo. Initially configured with an electromagnetic gearbox, this was replaced by a new hydraulic gearbox. Earlier vehicles were fitted with twin 162hp Scania-Vabis 603 engines, before Volvo developed and equipped its variant with the more powerful 410hp A 8B single engine.

In order to facilitate easy rail transport, the tank was relatively tall and narrow and this meant it had a relatively small turret ring. In 1944 it was decided to start development work on a new turret, which would be able to mount a high velocity 75mm gun. A French AMX-13 with a 75mm gun was purchased for trials. Engineers developed the Strv m/42-57 Alt A.2 project which proposed mounting the oscillating turret of the French AMX-13 tank and the 7,5 cm kan strv 74 gun onto the chassis of the Strv m/42. The project remained only in blueprints, and the vehicle was never built. The army opted instead for the Strv 74 which met their requirements at a lower cost.

The Strv m/42 was phased out of service in 1953. Instead of scrapping the vehicles, the chassis of all strv m/42 tanks with twin Scania-Vabis 603 engines were rebuilt between 1957 and 1960 into the new Stridsvagn 74 tank, and all those with the single Volvo engine A 8B engines were rebuilt as Infanterikanonvagn 73 infantry support vehicles. The turrets were re-used as static gun pillboxes, along major coastlines and harbors.
