The Strv 103B is a Swedish tier 10 tank destroyer.

Developed from 1969 through 1971 as a modernization of the Strv 103. Unlike the previous Strv 103A version, the Strv 103B was equipped with a more powerful gas-turbine engine, laser rangefinder, and infrared devices. The vehicle also accommodated the mounting of amphibious add-on equipment. In 1970, 220 vehicles went into service. At the same time, the vehicles of the previous modification were converted to the Strv 103B, which resulted in a total of 290 vehicles by 1971.

The Strv 103B marks the end of its Swedish tank destroyer line.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

- Extremely accurate gun, 2nd best regular shell penetration of all tier 10 TDs.

- High mobility in Travel Mode, Especially in rough terrain.

- Tied with its predecessor, It has the Lowest rate of catching fire in the Game (Only 10%!)

- gets a armor upgrade on the upper plate (40mm to 50 mm), lower plate is still 40mm along with the center of the upper plate.

- Like its predecessor, Its Reverse Speed (45 km/h) is almost the same as Forward Speed (50 km/h)

- Longest radio signal range in the game at 850 meters.

- It was the First Tank that featuring grill on its front to reduce damage from Non-SPGs HE shot that fired on front of this vehicle.


Cons:

- Like its predecessor, It has the Lowest HP pools Non-SPGs vehicles in its same tier tied with French Foch 155 and Batchat-25T , And Germans Grille 15 (1800), And its thin armor were very vulnerable against High caliber guns and SPGs, Especially in Siege mode

- Mobility in Siege Mode is terrible, And makes you very vulnerable in close range combat

- Expensive Ammo cost compared to its good firing rate (Its firing rate were 8.5 shots per minute, While ammo cost is 1160/4800/810).


Performance

The Strv 103B is a great sniper and support tank as its low profile gives it good camo values. Best tactic is to search for a good position, activate siege mode and wait for the enemy. If he appears use your accurate gun and perfect penetration to chip away enemy hitpoints. Alpha is low but reload time is only about 6 sec. If you get spotted, change to travel mode which will take 1,3 seconds and then retreat backwards, your high reverse speed is quite helpfull. Your extremly angled roof can bounce some shots but it is better not to rely on this. Use your great mobilty in travel mode and search for a new position.

Another good tactic is to use the terrain. Look for hill edges, drive in siege mode over the the edge, fire and retreat in siege mode backwards under the edge. Your canon is almost at the top of the tank so you will expose only a small part of the angled roof. Many enemy shots will pass over you or bounce on the roof.

As perfect as this tank is as a long range sniper, as terrible it is in a direct duel. If a light or medium tank comes close to you your chance to survive is very low. Turning speed and mobilty in siege mode is terrible and in travel mode you can´t aim your gun. This can lead also to trouble at the end of the battle when it is something like 3 against 3. You can´t attack the enemy effectivly as you will need 2 sec. to change to siege mode. This will only work if you can surprise someone from behind. Best way is to use your mobilty, act as scout and let your team mates finish the last enemys. As a last resort you can try to fire in travel mode at close enemys but the chance to miss it quite high.

Due to its inability to fight on close range, stay behind and snipe. If you have the feeling that your flank gets lost, retreat early and search for a new position. Some of your team mates will call you "camper" but this is the way to play this tank.

Historical Info

As the weight of the Strv 103 had increased compared to the pre-production tanks, the 103 turned out to be underpowered. Hence, a more powerful version of the same gas turbine, manufactured by Caterpillar, was introduced after the first production run of 80 tanks. The early version tanks (retroactively designated Strv 103A) were soon upgraded to B-standard. Adjustments to the hydro-pneumatic suspension increased elevation range from -10 through +12 degrees, to -11 through +16 degrees.


Historical Accuracy Errata

The following are consensus errors or inconsistencies which have been identified with the configuration of the vehicle in question and conflict with information available on the public record. The causes for these divergences in the game are normally not disclosed and may be rooted in game balance.

In reality the Strv 103 had an autoloader with a twelve round clip that could fire once every three seconds. But, For making this tank balanced and prevent for bring overpowered like the removed Waffentrager auf E100, Wargaming decided to make this tank to had good reload time instead.
