Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. C

III

AnnoG63_PzI_ausf_C.png

The Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. C is a German tier 3 light tank.

The Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. C became very popular quickly after its release in-game, and with good reason.

It is extremely fast (having the second highest top speed in the game) and highly maneuverable, rivaling even the Soviet now gone T-50-2. It sports sloped 30mm armor on its front and is relatively well-armored for its tier. Lower-tier tanks and machine guns will have difficulty penetrating its armor and an even harder time hitting one at full speed. Its top gun, the 7.92 mm Mauser, is a rapid-firing machine gun that holds 5 8-round bursts in its drum, meaning it fires 40 rapid shots before reloading with a good ~350 damage potential. Despite its relatively low penetration, the 7.92 mm gun can easily take out full-health tier 2-3 tanks within seconds with shots to spare. The Pz.Kpfw I Ausf. C also has great gun elevation arc angles which assist with using cover and firing on the move. The formidable burst damage potential and high maneuverability make this tank one of the best flankers and run-and-gun drive-by vehicles; it's great for its tier and a fun tank to play. Many high tier players also tend to seal club with this tank because of its ridiculous stats.

The Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. C marks the end of its German light line.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Extreme top speed
  • Absurd rate of fire
  • Very high burst damage with the 7.92 (~320 damage per clip) this can literally level any tanks of it's tier.
  • Ability to pivot in place
  • This tank can level any other tier 3 in seconds (of course with the right "peek-a-boo" style of attacks)

Cons:

  • Acceleration is lacking for its top speed
  • Poor penetration
  • This tank is something of a nuisance to tier 5's
  • Driver is knocked-out easily
  • Very expensive gold ammo (16,000 credits per belt)

Performance

At its tier, it is best played as an aggressive flanker. All but the strongest vehicles will be quickly destroyed by its 7.92 mm Mauser machine-gun, especially if shot from behind or in the side. The high damage-potential and high maneuverability (turning speed and such) allow the Pz.Kpfw I Ausf. C to "carousel" enemies, that is, quickly drive past or around an enemy and unload into their weak sides and rear while forcing them to turn their turret and hull in an attempt to keep-up. This technique disorients unexpectant enemies while making its victim vulnerable to you and your teammates who may be right behind you, however this trick requires high speed and works best on slow enemy tanks and tank-destroyers. Find opportunities to flank, charge in, unload your the 40 bullets and run to reload. Rinse and repeat.

The Pz.Kpfw I Ausf.C offers a choice between two guns, the same 2cm L/112 that you might know from the PzII or a unique gun, the Mauser. They have similar stats : same accuracy, neighboring damage and penetration. Technically, the L/112 is more reliable due to its slightly better penetration and a faster clip reload, but the Mauser's sheer damage potential and huge burst length make it incredibly deadly in flanking maneuvers and a generally preferred choice.

When in higher tier battles, typically Tier V, penetrating enemy tanks becomes extremely hard. Almost all tier 4s and 5s are invulnerable to your gun, even from behind. But know your enemy! A T67 and Alecto have low armor and are great opportunities to gain XP. In any case, it is ill-advised to engage higher-tier enemies head on. It is more effective to scout enemies for your team and to attack SPGs when the opportunity presents itself (when the enemy is distracted and away from their base!) As a scout (especially with Binoculars or Coated Optics) or arty-hunter, this tank becomes very valuable to its team. Furthermore, its powerful radio enables it to effectively scout. As with any tank, being the underdog tier-wise is extremely dangerous and care must be taken to avoid all enemy fire, Your 30 mm armor is not at all effective against tier 4 and 5 vehicles.

If you want to, you can use premium ammo and consumables to make it a "seal clubber" tank that will wreck other tier III's, and some tier IV's and V's, but its extremely expensive to run, kind of like the Pz II J, but its opposite.

Overall, with a fun and high-damage potential gun and being fast and highly maneuverable, this tank will surely be a keeper for light tanks aficionados.

Early Research

  • The FuG 7 Radio carries over from the Pz.Kpfw. I. Mount it immediately.
  • First, research the 2 cm Flak 38 L/112 Gun if you do not already have it.
  • Get the Maybach HL 66 P Engine next, you'll find the speed to come in handy.
  • Research the VK 6.02 Suspension so you can equip better modules.
  • Now that you have your load limit upgraded, you can research and mount the top turret and the 7.92 E.W. 141
  • Finally, research the FuG Spr. A Radio.

Historical Info

The Panzer I Ausf. C, was designed jointly between Krauss-Maffei and Daimler-Benz in 1939 to provide an amply armored and armed reconnaissance light tank. The Ausf. C boasted a completely new chassis and turret, a modern torsion-bar suspension and five interleaved roadwheels. It also had a maximum armor thickness of 30 millimeters (1.18 in), over twice that of either the Ausf. A or B, and was armed with a 7.92mm EW 141 semi autocannon firing 7.92×94 mm ammo Panzerbüchse this higher pressure barrel was heavier than a normal 7.92mm barrel. Forty of these tanks were produced, along with six prototypes. Two tanks were deployed to 1 Panzer Division in 1943, and the other thirty-eight were deployed to the LVIII Panzer Reserve Corps during the Normandy landings.

Historical Accuracy Errata

The following are consensus errors or inconsistencies which have been identified with the configuration of the vehicle in question and conflict with information available on the public record. The causes for these divergences in the game are normally not disclosed and may be rooted in game balance.

There are no known records showing that the Panzer I Ausf. C was armed with any other gun besides than the 7,92 mm Mauser E.W. 141.
