The M4A2E4 Sherman is an American tier 5 premium medium tank.

Work on this experimental vehicle started in March 1943. Two prototypes were built by July. The vehicle passed trials, but was never mass-produced or used in action.

It is currently not available from the in-game store on the EU and NA servers.

This tank was awarded to players who managed at least 1,000 battles during Beta testing. It is essentially a heavier variant of the M4 Sherman. It sports workable mobility and reasonable armour alongside a gun with good damage per minute for its tier. It has no problems penetrating light and most medium tanks but will struggle to penetrate heavy tanks. It also has straight-angled hull armor instead of the more rounded hull that the M4 Sherman has, potentially resulting in shells bouncing more frequently.

The tank was given to beta testers on the NA and EU servers as a reward and is not currently available on those servers. It was available on the SEA server as part of a monthly mission reward in October 2014. It is only available for in-game purchase on the RU server. The de facto RU equivalent for this machine is the KV-220-2 Beta Test.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Superb view range
• Sloped frontal armor
• Good rate of fire
• Good gun depression
• Preferential matchmaking (tier 6 max, no tier 7 battles)

• Larger than the regular M4 Sherman

Performance

The performance of this tank is comparable to the T14, though the T14 has better all round armor at the cost of reduced mobility. Like other premium vehicles, the M4A2E4 is a decent moneymaker but like all Tier 5 premiums - it cannot hold a candle to what Tier 8 premiums can do, credit-wise. A major issue for this vehicle is the lack of penetration on its standard round and the low accuracy. Due to this, if it finds itself assigned in higher tier battles it will really struggle to perform well.

Historical Info

M4A2E4 tank was part of experiments made with different types of suspensions which led to the adoption of the HVSS suspension system on Sherman family of tanks. Two M4A2E4 prototypes were built in the summer of 1943. Performance of the independent torsion bar suspension was considered unsatisfactory due to severe maintenance problems which lead to the cancellation of the development.

Historical Accuracy Errata

The following are consensus errors or inconsistencies which have been identified with the configuration of the vehicle in question and conflict with information available on the public record. The causes for these divergences in the game are normally not disclosed and may be rooted in game balance.

M2 Browning machine gun on the turret roof is missing.

• Has the same diesel engine as the Sherman III, which is also an M4A2 hull. However, their horsepower and weight values are inconsistent. The British equivalent of the engine actually has the historical values.
• The in-game model is carrying accessories like jerry cans and haversacks, even though the tank was only an experiment and never entered service to begin with.
