Player Opinion
Cruiser - BelfastPros:
- Has access to HE shells, which makes it more versatile compared to other British light cruisers.
- Decent range and turret traverse speeds.
- Great acceleration; typical of British light cruisers
- Very favorable set of consumables.
- Great concealment.
Cons:
- Mediocre armor, as befitting a light cruiser. It can weather incoming 203mm rounds, but anything larger than that is going to cause havoc.
- Poor shell ballistics at longer ranges.
- Lacks the torpedoes that its tech-tree counterparts have.
Performance
History
Cruiser - BelfastThe story of Belfast is one of tragedy and victory. She was built in response to the Japanese cruiser Mogami, an extremely capable warship to match. Length and British technological limitations meant that Belfast carried twelve 6-inch guns in 4 triple turrets. Belfast was laid down in Belfast, Northern Ireland in December 1936 and launched on St. Patrick’s Day in 1938. She put that extra bit of luck to good use when, in November 1939, Belfast struck a mine that very nearly destroyed the ship—most of the machinery was destroyed and the ship itself was bent upwards 4 and a half feet! After nearly three years of extensive repairs, Belfast rejoined the fleet with significant upgrades and Radar. Her next major action saw Belfast in direct combat with the German battleship Scharnhorst during the Battle of the North Cape. Her actions allowed the British to finally sink the German battleship. In 1944, Belfast served as an HQ ship during the Normandy invasion, supporting the Gold and Juno beaches. She fired almost 2,000 6-inch rounds during the invasion. After a thorough refit for Pacific service, she sailed to the Pacific and made it to Sydney Australia on August 7th, 1945, just before the war ended.
- She served in the Korean war, firing over 8,000 shells against shore targets.
- She rests as a museum ship in London on the River Thames.
