Understanding and mastering the economy of World of Warships: Legends is one of the keys to enjoying the game. There are four main types of currency: Credits, Doubloons, Experience (several types, including Global Experience) and Steel. Credits, Doubloons, Global Experience and Steel can be seen in the game client at the top of the screen. Ship Experience, unique to each ship, can be seen in the port by selecting the ship of interest. All total different currencies can be seen by pressing (Playstation) or Y (Xbox) while in port.[1]

Credits

Legends_Credits_Big.png

Credits are the primary currency in World of Warships: Legends. Credits can be used to buy unlocked tech tree ships, modules, upgrades, and pay for servicing and resupply after each battle.

Players earn credits through battles, campaigns, containers, premium shop bundles, special missions and more. Base credit income in battles is dependent on performance and may be modified by credit bonuses. Premium time increases base credit income by 50%. Factors such as damage, spotting damage, capture and defense points, and plane kills positively affect credit income in a battle. Credits also can be obtained by converting doubloons to credits. All premium ships have a higher base credit income rate, different for each tier.

Legendary Tier ships do not count as premium ships.

Doubloons

Legends_Doubloons_Big.png

The Doubloon (Db or Dub) is the World of Warships: Legends version of Gold Gold from World of Tanks and World of Warplanes. As a premium currency, it can have a considerable impact on one's gaming experience. Although progressing in the game without using Doubloons is certainly possible, the use of Dubs speeds progress in nearly every aspect of game play.

Getting

Doubloons can be obtained in several ways:

  • Purchase directly from the in-game shop, either alone or as part of a bundle. This is the most reliable way to get them.
  • Achieving a certain rank or result during competitive modes such as Ranked Battles
  • Various in-game missions or campaigns.
  • Sometimes awarded in some containers.
  • In some cases, duplicate ship compensation may be in the form of Doubloons.

Using

Doubloons have a multitude of uses:

  • Exchanging doubloons for credits; the standard conversion is 1 Doubloon → 1500 Credits.
  • Converting Elite XP to Global XP. The standard conversion rate is 25 Elite XP + 1 Doubloon → 25 Global XP.
  • Purchasing some premium ships. Generally, premium ships are purchased for Doubloons in the in-game shop. Some ships are also available for real money in the platform stores.
  • Purchasing premium time from the in-game or platform stores. Purchasing more days of premium time at one time lowers the cost per day.
  • Demounting an upgrade from a ship (25 Doubloons). Demounted equipment can be applied to a different ship. Alternatively, the equipment can be sold for 50% of the purchase cost in credits; if sold, no demounting fee is paid.
  • Purchasing special items:
    • Special camouflages such as skins from Space Battles, Halloween events, collaborations, and more;
    • Unique commanders from in-game events and collaborations;
  • Creating a Fleet — By paying 1250 Doubloons, a player can create his own fleet. This is a one time fee, but some optional features may come with additional cost.

Experience

Experience is another primary currency in World of Warships: Legends. Players earn experience in the same way as they do Credits through battles and special missions. Experience is measured by Experience Points (XP). There are several types of experience.

Ship Experience (XP)

Legends_Reward_Elite_XP.png

Ship experience (usually just 'XP' is the main type of experience. It is used to research (unlock) new ship module upgrades and the next tier ship(s) in the tech tree, allowing the player to progress. Research consumes any available XP before turning to other sources, such as Global Experience, for a missing amount. Once researched, a module upgrade or ship can be bought for Credits, and if later sold, need not be researched again.

Ship experience cannot be earned through containers, campaigns, or shop bundles. Additional ship experience is occasionally awarded by a mission to the ship completing that mission.

On the post-battle Personal tab, (modified) ship XP is displayed next to the silver star, and on the Economy tab as Total: in the appropriate column.

Elite XP

Upon researching all of a ship's module upgrades and unlocking all succeeding ships, the ship gains Elite status. Any excess XP, and all future XP earned on that ship, is called Elite XP. While this type of XP can no longer be used to research new module upgrades or ships (since there are none to unlock), it can be converted to Global XP for a Doubloons fee.

As (most) premium ships do not have any module upgrades or succeeding ships to research, they automatically have Elite status and so earn Elite XP. Players can use these ships to collect Global XP indirectly (by playing the ship to obtain the Elite XP, then buying Doubloons, and finally converting the Elite XP to Global XP using the Doubloons).

Elite XP is earned and displayed in-game exactly as regular ship XP.

Base XP

Base XP (BXP) is the experience earned directly from a ship's performance in battle.Base XP is the basis of earned Global XP and Commander XP. It appears on the post-battle report Team Result tab and is used to rank team performance. It also appears on the Economy tab in the post-battle report.

Missions may require the accumulation of Base XP as the mission objective.

Global Experience

Legends_Reward_Global_XP.png

A player who reaches account level 6 unlocks Global Experience (often Global XP or GXP). The Global Experience pool, like Credits, is shared among all ships and therefore can be spent in place of ship experience to unlock any ship or module. A few premium ships can also be purchased directly for Global XP. It can also be used to upgrade captains if the player has used up all of his Commander Experience (see below). The current balance of the Global Experience pool is displayed on the main port page, at the top of the screen next to the Credits. Global XP is earned in battle at the base rate of 10% of the base experience, modified by Premium time.

Global XP can also be obtained by converting Elite XP at the rate of 1 Doubloon per 25 Global XP converted.

The amount of Global XP earned in a battle is displayed next to the green star in the Personal tab and in the appropriate column of the Economy tab.

Commander Experience

A ship's commander, representing the crew, also earns experience from ship battles. This Commander Experience (CXP) is used to acquire skills that benefit the ship in battle. Refer to the Commander article for how Commander XP is earned and used.

Note that unlike World of Warships (PC), a commander can be equipped on multiple ships simultaneously and freely. However, a ship without a commander cannot enter battle.

Premium Account

A Premium Account allows quicker progress by increasing the amount of credits and ship experience earned per battle. It has no effect on ship performance. As a premium account has a limited duration, it is often called Premium time.

Premium account time can be purchased in-game with the premium currency (doubloons), or through the platform stores in durations ranging from one day to one year (360 days). Premium time may also be earned through select missions and campaigns, and may be earned in containers. Premium time, whether purchased, earned, or awarded, takes effect immediately[3].

Containers

Containers are not themselves a currency, but they are an important part of the World of Warships: Legends economy.

Containers hold various items including Credits, Global XP, Resources, consumable items such as expendable bonuses and camouflages, collection elements, etc. There are many types of containers, obtainable in different ways. Every day, players can collect a free common container available in the in-game store. Campaigns, missions, Bureau and events may grant additional containers of both standard and special types. Some types of containers may be purchased in the in-game store.

Resources

Resources are game currencies that are obtained through in-game activity. Unlike Doubloons and Credits, they cannot be purchased in the in-game store. While purchasable currencies can affect how readily resources can be earned, e.g. through a premium account, they are very much influences secondary to game play.

Resources have multiple different uses depending on which is used.

Steel

Legends_Steel.png

Steel Legends_Steel.png is a rare resource that is used to obtain certain items in the Forge: ships, special camouflages, commander progression items, etc. Steel is earned mainly through game modes such as Ranked, Arena and Fleet Battles, but can also be obtained by completing special missions after having reached a campaign's final milestone (at a rate of 5 Steel per additional milestone).

Oil

Oil is a special resource that one can only obtain if they are member of a Fleet. This resource is earned by obtaining containers and winning one's 3 first battles of each day. A player does not personally possess Oil; it is contributed directly to the player's fleet. Oil is invested in a fleet to provide bonuses for its members. The amount of Oil contributed to the fleet can be viewed on the Fleet's menu.

Research Points

Research PointsLegends_Research_Points.pngare used to help players progress through the Bureau. They are obtainable exclusively as campaign rewards. Read the dedicated article for more informations on this resource.

Event Currencies

Events may introduce temporary currencies. Like Resources, these currencies have value in what they can be exchanged for in the in-game store. Along with the currency, an event will add event-specific items to the store that can be exchanged for that currency. For example, Winter Shards (from the 2022 December update) could be exchanged for the Legendary Tier Japanese cruiser Yoshino.
