Player Opinion
Pros:
- Fast main battery traverse speed.
- High DPM and shell volume for a Tier VI cruiser.
- Very high shell arcs allow to safely shoot over islands.
- Good long range (flak) AA suite.
- Has mid-range AA aura, unlike the Atlanta.
- Equipped with torpedoes with good damage, range and stealth.
- Access to the long-lasting american Smoke Generatorconsumable.
Cons:
- Small HP pool and no usable armor, poor survivability, 203mm guns can overmatch her measly 13mm armor
- Poor shell velocity makes hitting targets at range difficult
- Lacks Atlanta's Surveillance Radarconsumable.
- Weak short range AA
- Slow rudder shift for such a small ship
- Has less main battery turrets than the Atlanta.
Performance
History
Flint was an Atlanta-Oakland-class built for the US Navy. This variant of the Atlanta-class cruiser made some improvements to the design, refocusing it for the anti-aircraft role and improving seaworthiness. This saw the wing turrets replaced with 40mm Bofors mounts, reducing her main-gun armament to “just” twelve 5-inch guns.
Flint entered service in late 1944, just in time to support the invasion of Luzon as an aircraft carrier escort as part of Task Force 38/58. In this role, she screened carriers as they struck targets on Luzon, Taiwan, the Chinese coast, Tokyo, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and more.
- From March 18-22, 1945, Flint defended the task force from heavy air attacks, bringing down several aircraft. During Operation Magic Carpet, she served as a rescue ship and homing station for planes bringing troops home.
- Flint earned 4 Battle stars during her short career and was scrapped in 1966.
- In-game, she carries surprisingly long-range torpedoes and a smoke generator!
