Commander Bio:Mikhail Aleksandrovich Kedrov (1878-1945) was a Vice Admiral of the Russian Navy (1920). Kedrov began his career as an officer in 1899, when he graduated from the Sea Cadet Corps at the top of his class. During the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, he demonstrated outstanding abilities. He spent some time in the staff of Admiral Makarov, defended Port Arthur, took part in the Battle of the Yellow Sea and the Battle of Tsushima, and was wounded several times.
When the war ended, Kedrov continued to improve his education, completing the Artillery Academy, and studying battleship tactics and fire control systems. He also took part in designing a Russian dreadnought. His talent, vast knowledge, and reputation helped him become a chief gunnery officer of the Baltic Fleet. At the beginning of World War I, Kedrov represented the Russian command in the Royal Navy. In 1915, he was appointed to command battleship Gangut, and developed a series of measures to improve the main battery turrets of the future Russian dreadnoughts. In the years that followed, Kedrov oversaw minelaying operations near the German bases and was the Chief of Russian Naval General Staff. During the last stages of the Russian Civil War, he took the lead of the Black Sea Fleet and successfully evacuated White troops from the Crimea. |
