North Carolina — American Tech Tree Tier VI Battleship.

The first U.S. battleship of the new generation. The key advantage over her predecessors of this type was significantly increased speed. In contrast to preceding ships of the same type, she featured a thinner armor belt, but had very solid horizontal armor protection and a superior AA armament including numerous dual-purpose artillery.

Player Opinion


Pros:

  • Powerful AP shells with very good damage and penetration.
  • Very durable when properly angled, with a thick lower belt..
  • Very strong AA suite.
  • Significant speed improvement over its counterpart Colorado, useful for supporting allies and cap areas when needed.
  • Decent turning circle radius for a battleship.



Cons:

  • Due to the heavy weight of AP shells, they have a long flight time meaning that excessive lead is required to hit a target.
  • Poor shell grouping for an American battleship.
  • Despite speed improvement, many battleships can still outrun her.
  • Extensively covered in 26mm armor; vulnerable to HE spam and AP overmatch.
  • Very easy to citadel when showing broadside because of the citadel's location at the waterline.
  • Poor protection against torpedos and torpedo bombers due to the poor torpedo damage reduction of a mere 19%.
  • Even though North Carolina's AA is strong they can be easily destroyed by HE shells and bombs.
