Commander Bio: 

Robert Jaujard (1896-1977) was a Squadron Vice Admiral of the French Navy (1952). He joined the Navy at the age of 18, at the peak of World War I, and subsequently took part in combat actions in the Mediterranean. Jaujard spent the next two decades of his career on an array of warships, from destroyers to battleships, Including the newly-bullt Dunkerque. His career was mostly an active one, and he didn't spend much time performing "shore dutles."

Robert Jaujard met the beginning of the World War II as the commander of destroyer Vauquelin. He spent several months aboard her, guarding allied convoys in the Atlantic and Mediterranean during that time. After Italy Joined the war, he was part of the force attacking Genoa in June 1940, while in charge of cruiser Algerie. In April 1943, while Jaujard was commander of a light La Galissonnière-class cruiser, he sank a German blockade runner. In 1944, Jaujard took charge of a cruiser squadron that was notable for its participation in the Normandy landings and the Liberation of Provence. The accurate fire of the French ships and their admiral's composure were much admired by the Allled command. When the war was over, Robert Jaujard was placed in charge of the Action Force-the main part of the fleet of the French Republic.
