Performance
Yubari is a unique, yet no frills, premium cruiser. While many low tier ships have their armament in single gun turrets, Yubari’s more modern design has 140 mm guns in a comfortable two twin turret layout, akin to higher tier destroyers. At first glance there seems to be an additional single gun turret, but this 120 mm is a secondary gun, and cannot be controlled directly by the player. If this gun begins firing in anger, Yubari will most likely be returning to port early. Although Yubari is equipped with the same, hard hitting, 610 mm torpedoes of the Tier IV Mutsuki, the angle of fire requires exposing a complete broadside, limiting its usefulness to rare ambushes.
Equip both Aiming Systems Mod 0 and 1. Use Mikawa to leverage his concealment trait and maximize his maneuverability/survivability skills. Bully DDs early game, while avoiding full health cruisers and all BBs. Scoot and shoot, taking advantage of prime targets as they present themselves. Harass BBs mid-late game, staying at the edge of Yubari’s firing range. While they struggle to accurately land salvos, she will have no problem responding in kind.
Yubari often gets compared to her fellow Tier III premium, Iwaki, and unfairly tagged as being a significantly worse option. While seemingly incomparable on paper, the simplicity of this ship is, perhaps, its greatest strength.
