Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Fast for a multirole
- Powerful armament of four 20mm Hispano autocannons
- Fast reload for bombs or rockets
Cons:
- Mediocre maneuverability, will get out-turned by most fighters and some multiroles
- Poor optimum altitude, barely an improvement on the Tornado
- Vulnerable to both turnfighters and high-altitude fighters
- Painful stock grind, shares no module from the Tornado
Performance
At Tier VII, the Typhoon fills out the role of a dedicated support plane compared to its predecessor. It does come with its ups and downs though, as it shares some of the strengths of the Tornado with some of its weaknesses. At stock you're using 12 Browning light machine guns and no bombs or rockets, leaving you only good enough to finish off damaged planes or pummeling slower ones. Once you get the upgraded modules, things start to look up. The four 20mm Hispanos still play the same role as before, excellent at close to medium range. Unlike other multiroles at its tier, the Typhoon gets a 60-second reload time for the bombs or rockets, making this plane effective at turning capture points for the team. The Typhoon also has the airspeed to keep up with fighters, and it can outrun slower multiroles like the F4U-4 Corsair and the Fw-190D. Unfortunately the Typhoon's maneuverability is mediocre to average at best and it retains the lackluster altitude performance of the Tornado; making it easy prey for fighters from above or below. Stick close to your fighters and use them for cover, while supporting them by turning capture points or taking out ground targets like AA guns. Shoot down targets of opportunity and don't take on fighters on your own, they'll out-turn you if you don't get them on the first attack run. The Typhoon shines out in the middle of a group and should be treated as a serious support plane, bringing decisive firepower to anywhere it is needed.
