Adriatico — Italian Tier IX destroyer.
Between 1934 and 1936, Italy developed a destroyer leader under a Soviet order. This led to the construction of the ship Tashkent for the Soviet Navy. If such ships had been built for the Italian Navy, the destroyers would have received Italian armament in the form of dual-purpose 135 mm guns, as well as Italian AA and torpedo armament.

Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
Tier IX Italian destroyer Adriatico continues the close quarters characteristics of the preceding Italian destroyers. She gains increased firepower characteristics, as well as extra smoke generator charges over her predecessor, with the downside of a larger, sluggish hull.
Armament:
Adriatico carries six 135mm/45 guns in three twin gun turrets. Her HE shells are slightly improved over Vittorio Cuniberti, with 1,950 alpha damage and 9% fire chance. While her Semi-Armor Piercing (SAP) shell characteristics are impressive at 3,050 alpha damage and 38mm penetration, her low gun count and mediocre 4.4-second reload (with Main Battery Modification 3) does not give her a large advantage over other destroyers at her tier.
Her firing arcs are improved over her predecessors, but she loses Vittorio Cuniberti’s 360-degree rear turret, and has a slow 180-degree traverse time of 20.7 seconds with Main Battery Modification 3. Her base gun range is the lowest out of all Tier IX destroyers at 9.46km. The range can be extended with the Main Battery & AA Expert skill to 11.35 km. Her short range makes it difficult to engage larger targets, but allows players to go unspotted once the hull exits gun range.
Adriatico carries eight 533mm torpedoes in two quadruple launchers. Her torpedoes are quite slow, with a long 12km range and low detectability. While these torpedoes lack high alpha damage, their fast reload time and long range complement Adriatico’s gun-focused play style, and are useful at denying key areas.
Consumables:
Adriatico uses the standard Italian destroyer consumables — Exhaust Smoke Generator and Emergency Engine Power. Her Exhaust Smoke Generator allows her to sail at full speed while still remaining fully concealed by the smokescreen. The Emergency Engine Power consumable has a short duration, but provides a 25% increase in speed, pushing her top speed to 49 knots. She carries 6 charges for each consumable.
Hull:
Adriatico has a good base health pool of 21,800 and a base speed of 39 knots. However, her surface concealment is mediocre, only 6.9km with Concealment Expert and Concealment System Modification 1. While her rudder shift and turning radius are decent, her large hull makes her an easier target to hit.
Battle Performance:
Adriatico serves the role of an ambush destroyer. This is encouraged through the usage of high alpha damage SAP shells and her large health pool. Her low gun count, mediocre 5.7-second reload, and slow turret traverse does not give her a large advantage over other Tier IX destroyers, thus the usage of consumables is key to gaining advantageous trades. Her Exhaust Smoke Generator and Emergency Engine Power help her out-trade and delete destroyers in knife fights, while also being used to escape without dying. While her short range is a considerable downside, it allows players to go unspotted once the hull exits gun range. Her slow, long-range, and low detectability Italian torpedoes are useful at denying key areas.
When not able to ambush enemy destroyers, Adriatico can be played as an open water damage dealer. While her range is low for a gunboat destroyer, access to SAP and HE shells allow her to deal damage to most targets. Emergency Engine Power allows her to dodge shells easily with the use of propulsion and her high speed. Exhaust Smoke Generator allows her to cut line of sight when needed and allows her to deal damage from smoke for the duration of the consumable. Due to the many charges she gets, Adriatico can accomplish both roles in a single match according to the situation.Pros:
- Large health pool
- SAP shells with high alpha
- Long range torpedoes with low detection
- High top speed
- Access to Emergency Engine Power and Exhaust Smoke Generator
Cons:
- Large target
- Low gun count
- Very short main battery firing range
- Slow turret traverse speed
- Lower torpedo damage
- Poor concealment
- Cannot outrun her smokescreen deployment
Research
- Hull: Upgrade to Hull (B) for improved survivability, AAA, and maneuverability. Research of this module unlocks progression to X Attilio Regolo.
- Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to SDT 9 mod.2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.
- Torpedoes: Upgrade to Si 270 H2 for considerably more powerful warheads.
Optimal Configuration
Upgrades
The recommended upgrades are:
- Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1
- Slot 2: Engine Room Protection or Engine Boost Modification 1 (special)
- Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1 or Main Battery Modification 2
- Slot 4: Propulsion Modification 1 or Steering Gears Modification 1
- Slot 5: Concealment System Modification 1 *
- Slot 6: Main Battery Modification 3
In Slot 5, commanders can opt for Steering Gears Modification 2 to speed up Adriatico's rudder shift. However, Concealment System Modification 1 is still recommended due to her high detection.
Commander Skills
Luigi Sansonetti is highly recommended for Adriatico due to the useful and easily achievable talents that he provides.
The Far Reach talent provides a 8% increase to firing range once per battle, after an enemy ship is destroyed. This brings Adriatico’s max range to 12.26 km. While this hurts her ability to go unspotted by exiting gun range, the added range is beneficial for long range farming and the ability to dodge shells at longer ranges.
The Concealed Reserves talent provides a 10% increase to consumable duration once per battle, after 100 shell hits. This talent gives the Emergency Engine Boost consumable a maximum duration of 36 seconds, and extends her Exhaust Smoke Generator to a maximum duration of 44 seconds.
The Rapid Fire talent provides a 15% decrease in reload time once per battle, after the Confederate achievement is acquired. While this is harder to activate than the other two talents, it further increases Adriatico’s damage per minute, and effectiveness as a gunboat destroyer.
