Special

Alliance — British special premium Tier VIII submarine.

The Amphion-class submarines were designed for use in the Pacific. In contrast to their predecessors, they boasted greater surface speed and improved living conditions for their crew. They were of a double-hull design, with the torpedo tubes distributed evenly between the bow and stern. These submarines were built on the basis of technical solutions tested on the preceding T-class ships—specifically, by using an all-welded inner pressure hull. Since 1981, HMS Alliance has been a memorial and museum ship at Gosport.

Alliance was first released for sale on 1 March 2023 in random bundles in the Armory.

Performance:

Alliance is the first premium British submarine in the game. She is equipped with fast reload torpedoes with unique homing mechanics, at the cost of slow torpedo speed and low damage. She features high dive capacity reserves and fast torpedo reload, characteristics of the tech tree British Submarines

Hull:

Alliance’s survivability is average, with an HP pool of 15,400. Her armor is nonexistent, with her entire exterior hull covered in 19mm. Players should be careful not to be spotted on the surface for extended periods of time, as she will suffer heavy damage.

Alliance’s maneuverability and concealment help her survive in battle. Her 2.94s rudder shift is good, but her 460 m turning radius is high for a submarine. Her 5.7km concealment is very good for her tier, allowing her to outspot almost every destroyer in her matchmaking range. She has a good 31 knot top speed on the surface. Her underwater speed is also fast for her tier, at 24 knots. Careful positioning is vital as she lacks the speed to escape from bad situations.

Alliance’s Dive Capacity recharge and depletion rate is standard for her tier, at 1 unit/second each. Her Dive Capacity reserve is high, at 310 units, allowing her to stay underwater for more than 5 minutes.

Armament:

Alliance’s sonar is used for dealing damage at range. While the velocity is slow at 500 m/s, the 6.5 second reload time is fast enough to reliably double ping. The double ping lasts 55 seconds which allows ample time for homing torpedoes to arrive.

Homing torpedoes

Alliance’s homing torpedoes allow for long range torpedo attacks. They have a 10km range, are slow at just 44 knots, and deal low damage at 5700 per torpedo with a 29% flooding chance. These homing torpedoes are unique in their homing characteristics. They stop homing closer than all other submarines, around half as close as most homing torpedoes. Homing closer to their targets allows more hits with less opportunity to dodge. However, the combination of low damage and slow speed mean they are largely ineffective at longer ranges.

Conventional Torpedoes

Alliance’s conventional torpedoes deal 12,600 damage per torpedo at the cost of a lower range (7km) but faster speed (68 knots). With four bow tubes, a full salvo can cause heavy damage. The 2 aft tubes can be used to deliver a follow-up strike after passing under ships, although with half the alpha strike.

Her torpedoes have a very fast reload of 30 seconds and all reload at once.

Consumables:

Alliance has a standard Damage Control Party, with three stock charges and 15 second duration time. Players should be careful not to quickly exhaust their limited charges or will rapidly lose HP to flood and fire damage.

Her Hydrophone is useful for tracking the location of surface ships while underwater. It has a short range of 6km and a fast reload time of 30s, at the cost of a limited 5 charges.

Her Submarine Surveillance is useful for detecting enemy submarines. However, the range is quite low at 6km. Other submarines such as the German U-boats can spot Alliance from longer distances without being spotted in return.

Gameplay:

Alliance is a unique submarine, as she favors a close range playstyle while constantly launching homing torpedoes. Players should use her speed and concealment to gain advantageous positions to either utilize her homing torpedoes from closer ranges or get close enough to shotgun targets. When pinging targets, it is important to utilize her rudder in order to dodge depth charges sent at the approximate locations of pings. Double pings will yield more hits, but exposes the submarine's approximate position from repeated pings.

When closing the distance to shotgun targets, players should primarily approach battleships and cruisers. Once at around 6km, players should dive to periscope depth and further close distance. At around 2-3km, conventional torpedoes will arm and deal high damage to targets. Thus, players should quickly launch all torpedoes before proximity detection (2km) and dive quickly to avoid detection. Homing torpedoes should not be used when shotgunning due to the slow speed and low alpha damage.

Against enemy submarines, her Submarine Surveillance consumable helps in spotting targets and her unique Homing Shutoff Distance allows her to hit more homing torpedoes (0.11km homing shut off against submarines).

Alliance is an offensive submarine that specializes in dumping as many torpedoes as possible into the water thanks to her fast reload. Her strength relies on her speed, stealth, large battery capacity, and unique homing mechanics to deal constant damage to targets. The combination of speed, low detection, and fast reload aids in the shotgunning playstyle.

Pros:

  • Decent HP pool
  • Homing torpedoes stop homing at closer distances
  • Fast torpedo tube reload
  • 4 torpedo tubes on the bow, 2 on the stern
  • Torpedoes reload simultaneously
  • High dive capacity reserve
  • Good surface and underwater speed
  • Good concealment

Cons:

  • Slow ping velocity
  • Very slow homing torpedoes
  • Nonexistent armor
  • Short range Sub Surveillance
  • Short range Hydrophone with limited charges
