Champagne — French special premium Tier VIII battleship.
In the 1930s, France and the U.S.S.R. signed the Treaty of Mutual Assistance that opened up, among other things, the ability to purchase military equipment from each other. On a Soviet order, Schneider developed a 406 mm gun that was planned to be mounted on Soviet battleships. The outbreak of World War II slowed down the construction of battleships in the U.S.S.R., and these guns could well have been used on battleships under construction in France. To fit the barbette of a 380 mm quadruple-gun turret, the 406 mm turret had to be made a triple one.
Champagne was sold for two weeks beginning 26 June 2020. She appeared again for one week on 9 October 2020.

Player Opinion
Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
Premium Tier VIII French battleship Champagne carries six 406 mm guns that feature high penetration and velocity. Her strength in long range fire support and mobility is offset by poor survivability characteristics.
Armament:
Champagne carries six 406 mm guns in two triple turrets. Her guns are larger than those carried by most French battleships at Tier VIII and IX. They have an impressive range of 25 km, which can be further increased with the Spotter Plane consumable.
Her AP shells feature decent alpha damage, high velocity, very high penetration (more than any other 406 mm battleship at Tier VIII), and can overmatch 27 mm armor. Her HE shells have a 49% fire chance and 68 mm of penetration.
Champagne’s guns are very accurate, with best-in-tier horizontal and vertical dispersion, and 2.0 sigma. However, with only six guns, she can be frustratingly inaccurate at times, and her 28.6-second reload means she cannot make up for it with volume of fire.
Her turrets have a fast 180-degree turn time of 30 seconds. However, with only two turrets, careful positioning and map awareness are necessary to ensure all guns remain in the fight. Poor firing angles encourage players to play at longer distances, taking advantage of her impressive range and accuracy.
Champagne has an impressive theoretical damage per minute on her twenty-four 100 mm and nine 152 mm secondary mounts. However, they lack improved accuracy and have poor penetration — just 17 mm on the smaller 100 mm mounts, which is not enough to penetrate destroyers. It is not recommended to build for secondaries as Champagne is not a brawler.
Survivabillity:
Champagne’s hull is visually similar to that of Gascogne, but has a worse armor scheme. Her bow and stern are very weak, with 25 mm armor plating. Almost all high tier battleships will be able to overmatch it, and many cruisers can be able to penetrate it with HE shells. Like many high tier French battleships, Champagne has a 32 mm midsection and armor belt.
Her concealment is good, reaching as low as 12.9 km. She has a small HP pool of 60,900 and a 28% torpedo damage reduction. She also gets one less charge of her Repair Party consumable than many other battleships. As a result, Champagne should play at medium to long ranges.
Maneuverability:
Champagne is a fast battleship, with a top speed of 34 knots that can be further increased to 38.7 knots with her Engine Boost consumable and the Sierra Mike combat signal. Her 15.5 second rudder shift and 850 m turning circle are both decent. Due to her high speed, Champagne is a flexible battleship that can reposition easily when needed.
Anti-Aircraft:
Champagne’s long- and medium-range AA DPS are both low, at 140 and 52.5 respectively. She fires six low-damage flak clouds. This is definitely not enough to stop an aircraft carrier from striking, so grouping with allied ships to overlap anti-aircraft auras is recommended in games with carriers.
Battle Performance:
Champagne is a highly specialized sniper battleship, much like Slava but at Tier VIII. Her core gameplay is long range artillery support with her 406 mm guns, along with the added maneuverability found on French battleships. Champagne plays much like the classic sniper battleship, positioning around 14 km or more away from cap circles, and providing crossfire onto enemy battleships and cruisers. Her high speed allows her to switch positions for better shots. Because of her high penetration and some overmatch capability, players should mainly fire AP at cruisers and broadside capital ships.
Her poor armor scheme, low HP, and weak AA DPS mean she is not a brawler. It is important not to overextend in games with aircraft carriers, as the constant spotting and damage from planes will sink Champagne very quickly.Pros:
- Main battery with high penetration, velocity, and firing range
- Very accurate main battery
- High top speed
- Good maneuverability
- Good concealment
- Access to the Engine Boost
consumable
- Access to Spotting Aircraft
Cons:
- Large target
- Low HP pool
- Weak armor scheme
- Low salvo damage with only six guns
- Has one less Repair Party
charge compared to standard battleships (four maximum)
- Poor AA defenses
