Duncan — British Tier IX battleship.
The further development of the 1920 battlecruiser became project G3. It differed from its predecessor by having a smaller main gun caliber of 419 mm, shorter length, and smaller displacement. In early 1921, the project was redesigned to enhance the armor at the expense of its speed and main caliber characteristics. In October of the same year, the construction of four ships under this project was ordered, but it was suspended amid the start of the Washington Naval Conference. Following its results, the construction order was canceled.

Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
Duncan is the Tier IX ship of the British battlecruiser tech tree. She further continues the emphasis on speed and firepower, with improvements to survivability in the form of the Specialized Repair Teams consumable.
Armament:
Duncan carries nine 419 mm guns in three triple turrets. These guns have a range of 19.7 km. Her AP shells have good alpha damage, and can overmatch up to 27 mm of armor, which is present on many cruisers in her matchmaking spread. They also have a shortened fuse time of 0.015 s, which is useful against cruisers as it reduces her chance of overpenetrating their armor. Her HE shells have a 47% fire chance, and 70 mm of penetration.
Duncan’s guns are accurate, with good horizontal and vertical dispersion values. She uses the battlecruiser dispersion formula but with a lower sigma value of 1.6. The guns have an average reload time of 29.5 seconds, which can be reduced to 26 seconds with the Main Battery Modification 3 upgrade.
Her turrets have a fast 180-degree turn time of 30 seconds. Her turret layout is unique, as her third turret is positioned in the middle of her superstructure. This limits her rearward firing angles and reduces her effectiveness when kiting, but gives her comfortable forward firing angles.
Duncan carries two single-launch torpedo launchers on the sides of her hull, one per side. They have a 55-second reload time, 10 km range, and a maximum damage of 29,367. Her torpedo tubes are fixed, but have the torpedo turning mechanic. Immediately after launch, they will perform an S-turn to reach the selected heading, before arming and proceeding in a straight line. This allows them to fire at much wider angles, but the arming time and minimum arming distance are longer as a result. In addition, their “traverse speed” is half as fast as those of “real” launchers, which can cause issues at close range or during drive-bys.
Survivabillity:
Duncan’s hull is thinly armored, with her bow and stern covered with 25 mm plating. This allows every ship with a gun caliber of 380 mm or higher to overmatch it. Her deck armor is thicker at 32 mm, but most cruiser HE shells will still penetrate it. Duncan’s citadel is vulnerable, as it is large and sits high out of the water. Captains must be careful when showing broadside against enemy battleships and large cruisers.
Duncan gets access to the same Specialized Repair Teams consumable found on Nelson and Yukon. It has a short action time of 20 seconds, and heals up to 2% of her HP per second, including 60% of any non-citadel damage taken. As she only heals 10% of citadel damage (including torpedoes that hit her torpedo protection), it is vital to not take citadel damage and avoid torpedoes as much as possible in order to maximize her Repair Party efficiency. Duncan also has one less charge of her heal than normal.
Her minimum surface concealment is very good at 12.1 km. She has an average HP pool of 75,200, but her torpedo damage reduction is low at only 22.9%. With her excellent surface concealment and thin armor, Duncan captains should play her at medium ranges.
Maneuverability:
Duncan is a fast battleship, with a top speed of 32 knots, that can be increased to 36.3 knots with the Engine Boost consumable and Sierra Mike signal. Her rudder shift time of 16.6 s is average, however her 910 m turning radius is quite poor. Her high speed allows her to quickly and easily reposition when needed.
Duncan’s Engine Boost consumable comes with 3 charges, provides 8% more speed, lasts 120 seconds, and has a 120 second cooldown.
Duncan cannot mount Propulsion Modification 1 , but gets the same enhanced acceleration found on the British destroyer and light cruiser lines. This allows her to accelerate forward very quickly to high speeds, but she takes longer to slow down.
Anti-Aircraft:
Duncan’s AA DPS is relatively poor overall, but she has a high mid-range DPS of 504, which increases to a best-in-tier 756 DPS with the Defensive AA Fire consumable. She only produces four flak clouds that deal low damage. Her high mid range DPS can shoot down planes but cannot stop strikes entirely. Grouping with allied ships to overlap anti-aircraft auras is recommended in games with carriers
Duncan only has 3 charges of her Defensive AA Fire consumable, so they should be saved for torpedo bombers and AP dive bombers, as these armaments can cause damage she cannot fully heal.
Battle Performance:
Duncan is a mid-range battleship that likes to play on flanks and punish broadside enemies, much like the other tech tree British battlecruisers. Her good speed allows her to reposition for better shots and react to the situation. Her low concealment allows her to play closer to enemies, and provide crossfire on enemy battleships and cruisers. With her accurate guns and 27 mm overmatch, players should mainly fire AP, only using HE on angled targets and destroyers. Her torpedoes are best used for deterring suicide rushes and when fighting targets at closer ranges.
While an improvement over her predecessors, her 25 mm bow and stern are still susceptible to battleship AP overmatch, and she should avoid drawing too much attention to herself. Her poor turning radius, low torpedo damage protection, and vulnerable citadel mean players should not seek close-quarters engagements too early. The addition of her Specialized Repair Teams consumable allows Duncan to take sustained damage and easily deal with fires, but captains should avoid taking citadel or torpedo damage.Pros:
- Accurate guns with battlecruiser dispersion
- Shorter AP fuse time
- Fast turret traverse
- Torpedoes, with the torpedo turning mechanic\
- Strong medium-range AA DPS
- Fast, with improved acceleration
- Excellent concealment
- Access to Specialized Repair Teams consumable
- Access to Defensive AA Fire consumable
- Access to Engine Boost consumable
Cons:
- Thin, easily overmatched bow and stern plating
- 32 mm deck plating
- Vulnerable citadel
- Low torpedo damage protection
- Overall underwhelming AA DPS and low flak count
- Large turning radius with an average rudder shift
- Limited Defensive AA Fire charges
- Fewer charges of her heal
