Hizen — Japanese special premium Tier IX battleship.
A pre-draft battleship project was developed in the mid-1930s in Japan. It included different versions with speeds varying from 24 to 31 knots, main battery guns from 410 to 460 mm, and displacements from 49,000 to 69,500 tons. One of the variants had a conventional superfiring arrangement of four turrets with three 410 mm guns in each, and its 155 mm guns were housed in triple-gun turrets. The project had a hybrid diesel and steam turbine propulsion plant. Further development led to the creation of the Yamato-class battleships.
Hizen was the Drydock event reward ship from 21 December 2020.

Player Opinion
Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
Hizen is a premium Japanese Tier IX battleship armed with twelve 410 mm guns. Her high gun count and decent accuracy complement the traditional sniper play style of Japanese battleships.
Armament:
Hizen carries twelve 410 mm guns in four triple turrets. They have a range of 20.3 km which can be further increased with the Spotter Plane consumable.
She fires the same shells found on Iwami, with decent alpha damage, good velocity, and good penetration. Her AP shells can overmatch 27 mm armor. Her HE shells have 30% fire chance and 68 mm of penetration.
Hizens guns have good dispersion but a mediocre sigma of 1.7, meaning her shells will not always have tight groupings. While she has more guns than Iwami, she has a much longer base reload time of 38 seconds. Her turrets have a 180-degree turn time of 45 seconds.
Hizen has good gun angles, and can fire all guns without showing too much side.
Survivabillity:
Hizen’s hull is visibly similar to Izumo and Iwami, but has a weaker armor scheme. Her bow, stern, and midsection are 32 mm thick. While this is enough to bounce most AP shells when angled, she is vulnerable to most HE shells. Her armor belt is 356 mm thick and will bounce all AP shells when correctly angled. Her citadel is long and has the same ‘cheek’ weakness as other high tier Japanese battleships. At closer ranges, high caliber AP shells can still citadel her through this cheek even when she is otherwise angled.
Her surface concealment is poor at 13.7 km and she has a smaller HP pool of 75,900, but her 37% torpedo damage reduction is high for her tier. She also gets one less charge of her Repair Party consumable than most other Tier IX battleships.
As a result of her armor layout, Hizen should play at medium to long ranges.
Maneuverability:
Hizen has average maneuverability characteristics, with a top speed of just 29.6 knots with the Sierra Mike signal flag. Her rudder shift time is decent at 17.1 seconds, and her turning circle is slightly better than average at 880 m.
Anti-Aircraft:
Hizen has poor long- and short-range AA DPS (116 and 335 respectively) with no mid-range AA aura. Her low DPS and only six flak clouds mean she can’t stop an aircraft carrier strike by herself.. Grouping up with allied ships to overlap Anti-Aircraft auras is recommended in games with carriers.
Battle Performance:
Hizen fills the classic sniper battleship role, positioning around 14 km away from cap circles and providing crossfire onto enemy battleships and cruisers. Hizen’s poor close range armor scheme, long reload time, and average speed mean she is not a brawler. Because of the overmatch on her 410 mm guns, players should mainly fire AP at cruisers and capital ships while switching to HE for angled targets.Pros:
- Strong broadside of twelve 410mm main guns
- Good firing angles that make angling fairly easy
- Good dispersion, typical of Japanese battleships
Cons:
- Weak armor protection - lots of 32mm common plating, and a vulnerable citadel
- Slow main gun traverse speed
- Abysmal main gun reload speed, 38 seconds stock
- Sigma is very poor at merely 1.7
- Poor concealment
- Very poor AA defenses
- Stock has three Repair Party charges, one less than standard
