Kunming — Pan-Asian Tier ★ destroyer.

A fast and well-armed destroyer, she is essentially an enlarged variant of the U.S. Somers-class ships with enhanced torpedo and anti-aircraft armament.

Kunming was added to the Pan Asian tech tree on 19 April 2023.

Kunming is the Super Ship of the Pan Asian destroyer line. She is an offensive-oriented destroyer that gains increased gun and torpedo performance over her predecessor, Yueyang, but sacrifices concealment and maneuverability.


Kunming carries eight 127mm/38 Mk.12 guns in four twin turrets. They have a stock 5 second reload, 13.39 km range, and a 180-degree turret traverse time of 7.2 seconds. Her shells are identical to Yueyang’s. Her HE deals 1,800 alpha damage, penetrates 21mm plating, and has a 5% fire chance. Her AP shells deal (up to) 2,100 damage. Like the other Pan Asian tech tree destroyers, her shells have very long flight times. The main difference from Yueyang is that Kunming features an extra twin turret, adding more damage per salvo at the cost of a slower reload. Her guns should primarily be used for self defense or farming from inside smoke screens and behind cover.

Kunming carries fifteen Mk17 torpedoes in three quintuple launchers. Her torpedoes are identical to Yueyang’s, with 18,800 alpha damage, 13.5km range, and travel at 69 knots. Kunming carries an extra launcher but takes 139 seconds to reload, 10 seconds slower than Yueyang. Like the other Pan Asian tech tree destroyers, Kunming uses Deepwater Torpedoes, which have very low detection at 0.8km. Enemy ships will have very little time to react or to dodge torpedoes without prior acquisition or Hydroacoustic Search. However, they are specialized at dealing damage to larger ships and cannot hit destroyers or submarines.


As with the other high tier Pan Asian tech tree destroyers, Kunming can be equipped with either Smoke GeneratorWhile active, generates a smoke screen that blocks line-of-sight for both enemies and teammates. or Surveillance RadarWhile active, detects all enemy ships within the specified radius, disregarding obstacles such as smoke and terrain.. Her Smoke Generator consumable is the same as Yueyang's, with an increased 30 second action time and shorter 100 second cooldown, but the dispersion time is also reduced to 70 seconds. With the reduced cooldown, the difference between dispersion time and cooldown is (only) 30 seconds, so a new smokescreen will be available shortly after each use. They last long enough to be used to disengage, cover allies, or farm ships with her guns. Kunming comes with five base charges of her Smoke Generator.

Her Surveillance Radar consumable has a range of 7.5km, 25 second action time, 120 second reload time, and three base charges. While the option of Surveillance Radar gives Kunming an option to hunt destroyers, it is important to note that many gunboat destroyers will be able to out gun her, even with a gun focused build. Another option is to use Surveillance Radar as a way to spot destroyers in key areas and allow teammates to deal damage instead.

Her Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. is standard, providing an 8% increase to her maximum speed, with a 120 second action and cooldown time.

Kunming carries two base charges of the Torpedo Reload BoosterWhen used, torpedo reload time is significantly reduced. consumable, which reduces the reload of all torpedoes to 8 seconds at the cost of a long 300 second consumable cooldown. This allows her to fire up to 30 Deepwater torpedoes, greatly increasing her torpedo threat against large targets. It is best used against enemy ships that are pushing.


Kunming has a base health pool of 20,200 and a base speed of 38 knots. Her maneuverability is not great, with a mediocre 4.4 second rudder shift and a large 700 meter turning radius. Her concealment is high, with a minimum concealment of 6km.

Kunming is a fairly large destroyer, larger than Yueyang. She is an easy target to hit and is susceptible to torpedoes if not careful.

Battle Performance:

Kunming serves the role of an offensive oriented destroyer, with more guns and torpedo tubes at the cost of worse concealment, a sluggish hull, and slower reload. Her Deepwater torpedoes are excellent at damaging and killing large targets with their low detection and high speed. However, they are less effective at denying key areas as they cannot hit enemy destroyers. Having eight guns gives Kunming increased alpha damage per salvo at the cost of a slower reload, which can be detrimental in knife fights against enemy destroyers.

Players can choose to run gun focused or torpedo focused builds, as her consumables – Torpedo Reload Booster and the choice of Surveillance Radar or Smoke Generator– allow her to take advantage of different playstyles. Surveillance Radar enables players to spot enemy destroyers within key areas, which can allow her and her allies to damage them. Unique Pan Asian smokes offer versatile play, allowing players to cover allies, disengage, and farm targets, all while reloading quickly. Torpedo Reload Booster allows her to fire 30 torpedoes in quick succession, denying large areas and crippling unaware players. It is important to note that players cannot have both Smoke Generator and Surveillance Radar consumables, and must choose depending on their preferred playstyle.
