Nottingham — British special premium Tier VIII cruiser.
Project C was one of the three designs of cruisers that Naval Architect George Thurston proposed in his essay "The Influence of the Washington Conference on Naval Design" The proposed design was to adhere to the 10,000 ton limit stated in the Washington Naval Treaty, have nine 8 inch guns all placed forward of the superstructure in 3 triple turrets, and maintain a top speed of 34 knots.
The design was not accepted for development with a more conservative approach being taken which would eventually lead to the Royal Navy County class cruisers.
Nottingham was first released for sale on 02 June 2023.

The Ship
Nottingham is a Tier VIII British Heavy cruiser that takes many features from Belfast '43 and the British Destroyer Line. She is unique in that she gains a Short-Burst Smoke Generator , lower detection, and an all forward turret layout in exchange for the survivability and improved heal of the tech tree British Heavy Cruisers.
Nottingham has a hull that is mostly covered with 27mm plating along the sides and 30mm on the deck that can bounce up to 380mm shells at shallow angles. The extreme ends of her hull has 25mm plating which can only protect up to 356mm shells, most battleships that she will face in her tier bracket will be able to overmatch her bow and stern with a well aimed shot. Her citadel is large and quite vulnerable. A large portion of her citadel, from the 3rd funnel to the front of the superstructure, extends well above the waterline and is easy to hit while broadside. When facing ships that can overmatch her hull her citadel has many areas that can act as a shell trap for an easy citadel. Captains of Nottingham will need to be mindful of positioning and fights they accept, a small chance at her broadside can lead to a quick devastating strike from larger cruisers and battleships.
Nottingham has slightly better speed and maneuverability than other British Tier VIII Heavy Cruisers. Her base speed is 34 knots with a 700m turn circle. Her base rudder shift is 9.4 seconds and hitpoint pool is 35,300. Her base detectability is 11.7km, the lowest of the Tier VIII British Heavy Cruisers, while using Concealment Expert and Concealment System Modification 1 it can be lowered to 9.5km.
Armament
Nottingham carries nine 203mm guns in three triple turrets located forward of the superstructure. The all forward layout of her armament makes it easy for her to keep all of her guns on target whenever she is bow on to her adversary. Interestingly her number 2 turret is capable of a full 360 degrees of rotation. Unlike some British Ships her guns are able to fire AP and HE shells. The AP shells have the same characteristics found on her tech tree counterpart Albemarle, comfortable ballistics at short to mid range but the shells become quite lofty toward the edge of her range. The penetration is not the highest of Tier VIII Heavy Cruisers but enough to reliably damage most cruisers she’ll face. She does not have access to the hard hitting HE shells that the British Heavy Cruiser line has. Her HE shells have less fire chance and less damage overall and are more comparable to the shells found on the American and French Heavy Cruisers. While they can still hurt damaged and soft targets, care should be taken in switching to the correct shell type for the scenario she's in.
Nottingham has heavy torpedo armament with four quadruple torpedo tube launchers, two per side with generous launching langles. Her torpedoes are similar to the ones found on Surrey with average characteristics but twice as many available to her. Being a British ship she can choose to fire torpedoes in a narrow spread or individually. The torpedoes only have an 8km range and she is not able to stealth launch them. She carries enough torpedoes to sink a large cruiser or a battleship and serve well as a deterrent against charging against her.
Consumables
Nottingham has a unique consumable set for a Tier VIII Heavy Cruiser. She has access to Damage Control Party , Short-Burst Smoke Generator , and the choice of either Hydroacoustic Search or Defensive AA Fire . The smoke screen is short duration but has a short cool down between uses. It is best used defensively as a tool to break line of sight with an adversary, whether this be ambushing an unsuspecting target and then disappearing before they can retaliate or as means of escaping a bad situation. Hydroacoustic Search and Defensive AA Fire are in the same slot and in basically every case you will want to take Hydroacoustic Search for her. Her Hydroacoustic Search is the standard one found on other Tier VIII British Cruisers.
Anti-Aircraft
Nottingham has a hard time fending off enemy aircraft. Her short, mid, and long range aura’s extend out to 1.5km, 2.5km, and 4km respectively, some of the lowest ranges for Tier VIII. Her short and long range aura’s have low DPS and the majority of her damage will be from her mid ranged aura. Even when using her defensive fire consumable she is not able to dissuade most carrier Captains that she will face from initiating an attack run. Her best defense against carriers is to break line of sight using smoke or make herself a difficult target by maneuvering.
Battle Performance
Nottingham has a play style that focuses around farming as much damage as possible while staying out of focus for as long as you can. Her low detection radius and Short Burst Smoke Generator give her flexibility to reposition to an area where she can ambush an unsuspecting enemy vessel. Her captains should remain undetected as long as possible and must take care not to overextend, if caught out in the open she does not have the armor or hit point’s to survive a sustained firefight for long and does not have access to a repair party like other British Cruisers.
She is best placed on a flank or a position where she is able to deal damage without the fear of large amounts of return fire. Captains can use the Smoke Generator and her concealment to take more aggressive positions as long as they have a route to quickly escape to once using it to break line of sight. Using this method she is quite effective at ambushing enemy cruisers with all of her armament facing forward.
If fighting against large cruisers or battleships it is best to fight defensively using islands or her smoke screen. She will not be as effective of an HE spammer against battleships as the tech tree British Heavy Cruisers and her best weapon against them will be her torpedoes if she is able to get in range to use them, this usually only happens when she is being approached.Pros:
- High concealment for a Tier VIII Cruiser, 9.5km at best.
- Good maneuverability when compared to other British Heavy Cruisers.
- Forward armament makes it easy to keep all guns on target.
- Access to Short-Burst Smoke Generator .
- Large number of torpedo tubes.
Cons:
- Large above water citadel and thin hull plating.
- Low HP at only 35,300 base.
- No access to Repair Party like other British Cruisers.
- Ineffectual Anti Aircraft Armament Range and Damage.
- Short Range Torpedoes, 8km range.
