Numancia — Spanish special premium Tier VIII cruiser.
One of the variants of the "Washington" cruiser project, proposed to the Spanish Navy by the Vickers-Armstrongs company, was based on the Emerald-class hull but equipped with seven 203 mm guns in one (bow) three-gun and two twin-gun turrets. To ensure space saving for the propulsion unit, a linear arrangement of the boiler and engine rooms was adopted. The ship was supposed to be faster than her original and have a catapult; however, preference was given to the project variant that became the basis for the Baleares class of ships.
Numancia was first released for sale on 24 August 2023 via random Dubloon bundles.

The Ship
Numancia is a Tier VIII Spanish premium cruiser designed around the triple-salvo burst-fire mechanic. In exchange for excellent stealth and the ability to deliver twenty-one 203mm shells within a 3 second window, Numancia makes significant sacrifices to survivability, main battery damage per minute, mobility, and consumable utility. Unlike the fast and flexible jack-of-all-trades Spanish tech-tree cruisers, Numancia is better understood as a glass-cannon opportunist.
Armor and Survivability
Misleadingly categorized as a heavy cruiser due to her gun caliber, the armor scheme and health pool of Numancia is more akin to that of a light cruiser. The 25mm extremities and 27mm upper belt armor will only resist the overmatch of the smallest battleship armor-piercing shells; high explosive munitions above destroyer caliber will have no problem doing damage everywhere. The 38mm deck armor may prevent the occasional AP shell from reaching the citadel, but given the expansive superstructure of Numancia, every incoming salvo is likely to do damage. The citadel sits slightly above the water line and is protected by a 127mm belt and a 50mm armored roof; both are useful primarily for arming incoming armor-piercing fuses. Unlike the high-tier Spanish tech tree cruisers such as Andalucía and Castilla, Numancia does not feature additional citadel protection in the form of an ice-breaker bow or spaced armor plates. Thus Numancia captains should jealously guard their 34,500 base hit points — the ship is simply not designed to mitigate or recover incoming damage.
Armament
Numancia sports an unorthodox main battery arrangement consisting of seven 203mm guns, housed in one triple turret forwards and two double turrets superfiring aft. Unfortunately, the front turret suffers from a 40° blind spot either side when pointing rearwards, making prolonged kiting with all guns firing a risky proposition. The HE ammunition does above average damage for Tier VIII, and is particularly noteworthy for its high 17% base fire chance. On paper, the AP ammunition of Numancia is below average compared to her fellow heavy cruisers, featuring poor penetration, lackluster shell velocity, and middling damage. However, when used in burst-fire mode, the AP receives a +25% damage bonus, which makes them among the hardest hitting 203mm AP shells in the game.
Overall, the low barrel count and mediocre reload of 11 seconds make Numancia unsuited for sustained damage trading — in regular firing mode her damage per minute is among the worst at her tier. Resourceful captains will instead make use of the triple burst-fire to capitalize on opportunities, such as lighting multiple fires after a battleship has used its damage control, or delivering twenty-one high-alpha AP shells to punish an enemy cruiser for showing broadside. When timed correctly, the outsized impact of a 3 second triple burst more than makes up for the subsequent 42 second reload.
The main battery on Numancia is supplemented by a torpedo suite consisting of four triple launchers, two per side, with good firing arcs to both the front and the rear. The torpedoes themselves have a usable range of 8km and a very low detectability at 1.2km, however they are slow at 59kts and only do a little under 12k damage per hit. In practice, the low reload of 76 seconds makes them a spammable area-denial tool that synergizes well with the excellent stealth of the Numancia, useful for dis-incentivizing the enemy from trying to push into spotting range. On the other hand, the four twin 105mm secondary guns with a modest 6.6km range are unlikely to turn many engagements in her favor.
Concealment and Maneuverability
Given her poor armor and survivability, Numancia captains must rely on her outstanding stealth to turn engagements in their favor. With Concealment Modification 1 and Concealment Expert equipped, the Spanish premium arrives at a surface detectability of 8.4km, which will allow her to outspot almost any cruiser in her matchmaking range; in matches with few destroyers or submarines, enterprising captains can even assume the spotting role for their team. The lurking menace of an unspotted Numancia triple burst is a significant part of her battle impact — players should seek to preserve their stealth at all times.
Unlike the highly mobile Spanish tech-tree heavy cruisers, the speed and maneuverability of Numancia is only middle of the pack for a Tier VIII cruiser. With a top speed of 33.5kts and a rudder shift time of 9.2 seconds, there are few situations where her movement abilities can be used to generate advantages. Captains may wish to train the Outnumbered skill in order to situationally boost her top speed and the accuracy of her main battery.
Anti-Aircraft suite and Anti-Submarine Warfare
Numancia is not a cruiser that is comfortable playing against aircraft carriers and submarines. Although the long range DPS of 101.5 and 4±1 flak at 5.2km is passable for her class and the two charges of 7km ASW drops are standard for her tier, the tactical disadvantage of having her stealth negated outweighs any damage that Numancia could do in return. Captains should be mindful not to patrol in areas where incidental plane spotting is likely; if a carrier turns its attention to Numancia, the player should seek to drag the engagement into open water and as far from enemy guns as possible.
Against submarines, the mediocre AA-range on Numancia is counterintuitively an advantage, since it means her 5.2km detection at periscope depth is barely more than her 5km hydroacoustic-search bubble, making close-range periscope-stalking impractical. That said, patient submariners willing to surface spot Numancia from a safe distance will cause more than enough headaches for her captain, even if they don't succeed in doing direct damage. In summation, Numancia players should adjust their positioning and decision-making in matches with large numbers of planes or submarines so as not to become the center of attention.
Battle Performance
Numancia excels at medium ranges as an opportunistic burst-fire support cruiser. Unlike the Spanish tech-tree heavy cruisers, which offer a more comfortable and forgiving experience, Numancia captains must demonstrate heightened tactical awareness at all times — the ship's wafer-like survivability offers little to no margin for error. The reward for mastering Numancia is a stealth-assassination play-style that is difficult to replicate on any other cruiser, where judicious use of the triple burst can swing the outcome of engagements and whole matches.Pros:
- Devastating triple burst fire, delivering 21 shells in three seconds.
- Excellent concealment.
- Very good base HE fire chance of 17%.
- Excellent 5,625 AP alpha damage when using the triple burst.
- Strong torpedo suite with fast reload, decent range, and low torpedo detection.
Cons:
- Small hitpoint pool and light armor.
- Low barrel count and mediocre reload.
- Long burst fire cooldown punishes poor shots.
- Torpedoes lack damage and speed.
- Weak Anti-Aircraft suite.
