The VK 28.01 mit 10,5 cm L/28 is a German tier 6 premium light tank.
An upgraded version of the VK 28.01 with a more powerful gun and small arms manufactured by the Krupp company. The vehicle was developed from June through October 1943 under the program for creating a universal chassis for a whole range of armored vehicles of various applications. The development stopped at the design stage and the vehicle was never built.
This tank was given out to players with 4 or more years of service in the Well-Deserved Reward event for 2021.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Great alpha damage, high DPM thanks to 10.5cm howitzer
- Overall good gun elevation/depression angles (20/-10 degrees respectively)
- Agile: 64 kph, 26 HP/T, good hull/turret traverse speeds
- Reasonable armor for light tank (50mm frontal, 40-degree sloped hull)
- Good view range and radio range
Cons:
- Gun handling is terrible; bad dispersion, aim time, accuracy, shell speed, and reload time
- Physically large; easy to hit and terrible camouflage ratings
- HE shells performance is unreliable due to HE changes in update 1.13
- Penetration on standard AP rounds is poor (though damage is high)
- Heavy for a light; notable speed losses in turns or on bad terrain
Performance
The VK 28.01 mit 10,5cm L/28 is the fourth of the various 'legacy tanks' brought back as gifts for players in the "Well-Deserved Reward" program. While the tank gets the 105 howitzer, it is nothing like the original VK 28.01. It is slower, has less view range, and the greatly nerfed 105. Those seeking to recapture the glory of the original 2801 will find this tank playable but disappointing.
This tank plays similarly to the normal VK 28.01 with a few major caveats. Where the standard VK 28.01 can serve as a passable but unremarkable light tank, it will want to generally stay at middle ranges to use its serviceable 75mm cannon in a support or light sniping role. However, the VK 28.01 mit 10,5cm L/28 does not want to stay in the middle ranges for long; while early on its best use is as a scout or spotter, it is critical to keep this tank alive as long as possible, as the power of the 10.5cm gun is magnified in the late game. Early in the game, take opportune shots to cripple enemy scouts; the normal 64mm of penetration on a 10,5cm AP shell is extremely lacking, yet is often enough to punch huge holes in most opposing scouts. Note that such a shell will overmatch any armor of 35mm thickness or less, so don't be afraid to fire at even angled scouts if their presented armor is 35mm or less. Very few light tank drivers are brave enough to remain on-site after losing half their health in a single hit! However, this mid-range trading is unreliable and opportunistic at best, due to the unreliable performance characteristics of the howitzer and is shells. Take advantage of the opportunity, but don't over-commit into an attack if your shot is at risk of just flying wide.
In some respects, equipping this light tank with such a large gun makes it less of a traditional Tier VI light tank, and more into a Tier V medium tank, specifically either the M4A1 Sherman or Panzer IV Ausf H equipped with their respective 105mm howitzers. The health pools are even similar (680 for the VK 28.01, 600 for the M4 and 630 or the Pz IV H), so treating this tank as a sneaky brawling medium in the mid to late game is highly recommended. Tanks on low health (100 HP or less) are at significant risk of being pounded into rubble by the brute-force power of the large HE shells, the biggest available to a Tier VI light tank. The speed and nimbleness of the VK 28.01 allows it to make rushes towards enemy back lines or flank larger targets who are isolated or unsupported, and the horrid accuracy and slow shell speed of the howitzer is a non-issue when the enemy is at point-blank range.
Veteran mid-tier light and medium tank players will feel right at home in this machine; start games by taking good spotting positions or even making fast spotting passes if you have an exit plan available. If these options aren't available or the map is constrained, play like a mid-tier brawling medium, albeit much more carefully; though your armor is effectively identical to the Pz IV H, you will find your high tier enemies much more capable of annihilating you in just a few shots. Exploit your excellent view range, good speed and mobility, and the threat of your 105mm cannon to harass enemy scouts and punish overextending opponents. If you don't have a sure shot into a weakspot, damage the enemy by shooting HE into flat plates or destroy tracks with the high module damage of your large explosive shell.
The selection of equipment is interesting, as you can choose to support your scouting duties via optical equipment such as Optics, or enhance your gun with choices such as the Vertical Stabilizer. The option also exists to mount a Turbocharger for even more speed, while the Improved Rotation Mechanism is an interesting compromise across multiple areas. Because there are genuine choices for designing this tank as either a heavily armed scout or a very sneaky brawler, you can set up the tank with a variety of loadouts. A Gun Rammer is always a good choice, as are Vents in the first slot if you do not have a more clear objective in mind. The mediocre camouflage makes pure camo builds using items such as Low Noise Exhaust Systems rarer, but they are possible. The good view range suggests employing Coated Optics or Binoculars to improve on that strength. The speed is good and can be made even better with the Turbocharger; the same is true for the Improved Rotation Mechanism and the tank's turning traits.
As one of the few true remaining 'derpgun lights,' especially at middle tiers, the VK 28.01 mit 10,5cm L/28 remains surprisingly comfortable to play, and is a genuinely fun and rewarding reward vehicle. Support your team, ensure your survival, and don't be afraid to go a little wild with the pointblank HE-and-ram combo if you need to.

Historical Info
Krupp envisioned the VK 28.01 with a modified Pz IV turret. The Hull armor of the VK 28.01 was to be 50/30/30. The 50 mm upper front plate was sloped at 55 degrees while the lower plate of the same thickness was sloped at 45 degrees. The turret armor was to be 50/30/30 protection and was nearly identical to the panzer IV turret. The only distinguishing feature was the cupola which was based off the Panther's cupola.
In July of 1943 it was thought that the VK 28.01 Mehrzweckpanzer would not see production until April of 1945. In October of 1943 the Germans cancelled the VK 28.01 project.

* The turret is the same Ausf G model used on the Panzer IV Ausf H, yet the view range and weight values are inconsistent.
- Actual Argus 12LD330H engine is more powerful than in reality, with 580 hp compared to the historical 550.
- The Argus 12LD330H was its only intended engine. The Argus 12LD330HL is fake.
- There were no known plans to mount the 10,5cm L/28 howitzer on this vehicle.
