Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

The Progetto C50 mod. 66 is an Italian tier 9 heavy tank.

In 1966, General Vittorio La Rosa wrote an article in which he outlined his vision of a tank to replace the M60A1 in the Italian Armed Forces, the development and production of which could have been managed by Italian industry. The project existed only in blueprints.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • has an 'improved' auto-reloader with 3 shots of nice alpha damage with end gun (400)
  • turret is decently armored, and cheeks are sloped and very hard to penetrate
  • the only Italian heavy with 4 shells (using 2nd gun and 2nd turret)
  • 9 degrees of gun depression
  • 45 km/h top speed with very good overall mobility

Cons:

  • hull armor is quite unreliable from all angles
  • turret face (near mantlet) can be easily penetrated by premium ammo
  • bad penetration on both standard and premium round
  • long reload and bad DPM
  • prone to multiple crew deaths and damaged modules

Performance

Play it like a medium tank, purely as a support, as long as you are not top tier. As opposed to Progettos in medium line, this tank has 'improved auto-reloader" with the compensation mechanic. This means that you can sometimes afford to shoot prematurely if little time is left to reload the next shot, because in that case next shot's reload time will get a boost (how much, depends on the exact time remaining to reload next shot, but it can be up to 50%). This requires a lot of practice and tactical thinking, but it helps in some dire situations. However, like all Italian auto-reloaders, as soon as you fire more than 1 shot you are left extremely vulnerable due to long reload. Bad penetration does not help much as well, and playing with pure premium ammo is basically required against most tier IXs and Xs.

Armor is very unreliable, and you are better off playing with a mindset that every single shot will penetrate you; bounces rarely happen, and when they do it is only the turret that helps (mostly cheeks, especially against premium ammo). The tank has weak modules in general, and HE shots will often kill more than a single crew member. Take cover from arty at all times and engage only enemies you can quickly finish or who are unable to retaliate. Keep your distance, never go anywhere alone, shoot distracted enemies then quickly retreat to reload. As the game progresses, your auto-reloader gets increasingly more valuable since you can finish off multiple heavily damaged tanks. Do not even try to brawl with "real" heavies (unless they are lower tier). They mostly have way better DPM, alpha and armor and it will end with a quick trip back to garage.

Early Research

In order to attach the 2nd turret, you need to use the 3rd and final lighter engine. The heaviest modules are the 2nd turret (by 3.5 tons), stock gun, 2nd radio, and 2nd engine. (Without using improved hardening) Start with the 2nd gun and 3rd engine in order to put on the turret and go from there.

Interestingly enough, if you use the 2nd gun (tier IX Canon da 105/75) with the 2nd turret, you get a 4th shell in the magazine which unusual from the 3 shells all other Italian heavies can hold. There are 2 viable setups with the 2nd turret: with the 2nd or 3rd gun. You'll have faster reload, less dispersion (but higher aiming time), higher pen on standard rounds, 0.5 seconds less intra-clip loading (the delay from shooting the next shot in the magazine), and an extra shell with the 2nd gun. This will allow you to have more damage potential with a full clip, save credits if you don't use much gold, able to shoot several shells faster and more accurately. With the 3rd gun, you will have 80 more alpha damage, higher gold/HE penetration, lower aiming time, and access to HEAT rounds.

Historical Info

The Progetto 66 is based off a domestic tank proposal by General Vittorio La Rosa, written in a 1966 edition of Rivista Militare (a magazine publication owned by the Italian army). Unfortunately, the details of the article have been lost, along with any potential images. Thus, its design in World of Tanks is purely a fabrication by Wargaming.
