The Semovente M41 is an Italian tier 5 tank destroyer.
After the Germans first adopted the use of StuG III assault guns with closed cabins in 1940, the Italians started working on their own vehicle of a similar type. As a basis for their design, they used the chassis of the Carro Armato M 13/40 medium tank. The first prototype of the Semovente da 75/18 was completed in February 1941. Instead of a turret and turret platform, this vehicle featured a closed stationary cabin with a mounted 75 mm Obice da 75/18 modello 34 howitzer. The vehicle armament was sufficient for both providing fire support and fighting against most tanks at the time. Its 50 mm frontal armor could, in theory, withstand most common British two-pounder tank and anti-tank guns from long and medium ranges. Most of the Semovente M41 da 75/18s that fought were lost in North Africa, while others were captured by the Germans in the fall of 1943.
This is the Tier V model of the new Italian tank destroyer line introduced in Update 1.81 in summer 2022. The Semovente (Italian for "self-propelled", with the "gun" implied) M41 features a good top gun, poor armor and forward mobility, and excellent concealment.
The Semovente M41 leads to the Semovente M43 Bassotto.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
For its class (Tier V TD's) . . .
- Very good DPM, only the M10 RBFM and 60G FT can damage enemies faster
- Good aim time -- repeated shots at the same target aim-in faster than the loader can reload
- Very good horizontal gun traverse limits -- 16 degrees right or left, only the Archer has better (but is "lopsided")
- Very good HE penetration -- uses the same c.g. 75/27 EP mod. 42 shells as the P26/40 and P.43
- Good reverse top speed
- Very good view range
- The best concealment when stationary and on the move (but not when firing either way)
Cons:
- The commander is also the gunner -- both skill sets must be squeezed into one crew member, or a few tough decisions need to be made
- Low alpha damage, tied with the StuG IV, only the AT 2 has worse on its best non-derp gun
- Mediocre frontal armor, really only good against enemy HE and some light main guns
- Low health, only the French S35 CA is worse
- The worst top forward speed if you don't count the oddball Archer
Performance
The best way to describe the Semovente M41 might be to compare it to the AMX ELC bis "tank destroyer" with its 90mm main gun -- the M41 has less than half of the alpha, fewer hit points, and is much slower, but has significantly better gun depression and aim time, more than twice the DPM, twice the armor (which isn't saying much), better view range, and (surprisingly) much better stationary concealment, including while firing.
But play it like the ELC bis -- use cover to avoid being detected, go against distracted enemies, and get in shots when and where you can. With your poor armor and health trading is not a good option unless you want to finish off a badly wounded enemy. Your best defense is your excellent concealment so use it to keep from being shot at.
The top gun has enough penetration for most opponents. With special ammo the top main gun has enough pen to take on any enemy tank you come across except perhaps for the Tier VII O-Ni -- maneuver for a side hull shot for best results, or simply shoot at something else if you can.
The M41 has mediocre forward speed -- only 35kph on flat ground -- but is one of those tanks where the transmission is better than the engine, allowing you to go down steep hills at up to 46kph or greater. Hull traverse is excellent and reverse speed is good.
The Semovente M41's crew setup doesn't quite match the crew of the only premium Italian TD currently in the game -- the SMV CC-64 Vipera -- but can still be made to work by supplying a separate gunner.
Early Research
The top radio is the same as from the P26/40, mount it immediately if you have it.
The stock suspension can handle anything you throw at it as far as equipment or modules, but not both. Weight capacity limits your selection of equipment so go ahead and upgrade the suspension first, add whatever equipment you like, work towards the top gun/"turret", and then upgrade the engine for more badly needed mobility.
Documented Tank and Crew Builds
A Binocular Telescope is recommended -- with a 100% commander this will get you up to 438m, not including skills and other equipment. This is good enough to serve as a backup passive scout if your team doesn't have a light tank (or a reluctant one) on the team, but with poor mobility things can get very interesting if you're spotted.
Combine this with your choice of Improved Ventilation and/or Gun Rammer to push your good DPM even higher, Camouflage Net or Low-Noise Exhaust, and/or a Turbocharger to improve the M41's poor forward mobility and good reverse speed.
Recommended skills are the usual for any stealthy but fragile tank destroyer -- Concealment, Brothers in Arms, Situational Awareness, and Recon.
