Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Excellent alpha damage (650, highest for a Soviet heavy tank) and decent penetration of 256mm
- Ridiculously strong turret armor with virtually no weak-spots
- Hull sides are thick and covered with spaced armor, excellent for side-scraping
- Good top speed and acceleration
- Huge mass, thick armor and decent speed allow for effective ramming
Cons:
- Low DPM due to subpar reload
- Long aim-time, poor accuracy, and bad on the move dispersion
- Bad gun depression combined with rear-mounted turret makes the tank inflexible
- Weak lower plate and sides above tracks
- Very vulnerable ammo rack, damage or destruction is not uncommon
Performance
The Object 705A is the heaviest of the Soviet heavy tanks. You'd have to be crazy to try shooting the turret front of this thing, although gold ammo will be spammed anyhow, and some tier X tank destroyers CAN penetrate the flatter parts. However, the lower plate is cheese for anyone you meet. The upper plate, although strong on paper, can and will be frequently penetrated by tier X premium rounds if left un-angled, so angling is a must. The side armor is strong, but sides-craping will often let you down by a tedious weak-spot between the upper tracks and middle hull.
However, the speed is great when compared to other super-heavies, and the ability to fit into spaces the Maus can't while having 250 more health than the Object 277, as well as a bigger-caliber gun than both, makes it a great tank in city maps. Its main downfall are its accuracy, reload time, bad gun depression and the fact that you are a magnet for HE and premium rounds ALL the time, as well as arty. Brothers in Arms, alongside Ventilation/Vertical Stabilizer and gun rammer upgrades will help with gun handling and reload, although not by much. Remember to stay with your allies, as this tank will often be rushed by multiple enemies if left alone.
The fear factor of this tank is a double-edged sword. On one hand, its empowering to watch enemy heavies/mediums fidget and wiggle behind cover as you take aim or straight up run away as you advance. On the other hand, you're a high priority target for...EVERYONE. The moment you're even somewhat exposed anyone who knows this tank at all will see taking you down to be the highest priority, so expect premium and HE rounds to be near constantly fired at you.
