Honolulu — American Tier VII cruiser.

USS Honolulu (CL-48) of the United States Navy was a Brooklyn-class light cruiser active in the Pacific War (World War II). Honolulu was launched in 1937 and commissioned in 1938. She was the only cruiser to survive the Battle of Tassafaronga undamaged.

Honolulu later served in the Battle of Kula Gulf, where she wrecked the destroyer Nagatsuki and helped to sink the destroyer Niizuki, and the Battle of Kolombangara where she helped to sink the light cruiser Jintsū but was crippled by a torpedo which blew off her bow. She then bombarded shores during the Battle of Peleliu. She was taken out of action by serious torpedo damage just before the Battle of Leyte Gulf. She was repaired, but not in time to rejoin the war.

Availability of researchable upgrades for Honolulu is as follows:

Hull: Upgrade to Hull (B) for additional mid-range AA, more hit points, and improved rudder shift speed.
Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to Mk8 mod. 2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.

Invest in the hull upgrade first; Honolulu needs all the hit points it can grab.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1 keeps the guns active and firing.
Slot 2: Surveillance Radar Modification 1 increases duration of Surveillance Radar .
Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1 improves accuracy and generates more main battery hits on enemies.
Slot 4: Propulsion Modification 1 allows for faster acceleration to move in and out of cover faster.
Slot 5: Concealment System Modification 1  lowers detection radius.

Anti-Aircraft Build: A popular build for this ship, captains focusing on boosting Honolulu’s AA will opt for Auxiliary Armaments Modification 1 for Slot 1 to increase the anti-aircraft armament durability and Defensive AA Fire Modification 1 for Slot 2 to increase her AA power by having the Defensive AA Fire  consumable active longer and a shorter cooldown as well. AA Guns Modification 1 can also be placed in Slot 3 but as it only reduces the cooldown for the priority sector, Aiming Systems Modification 1 for Slot 3 is still recomended so that Cleveland can still be effective with supporting fire when not engaged with enemy aircraft. Although her AA is a powerful enough deterrent, the usefulness of this investment depends on whether or not there is a carrier in the game. This build is great in division with a Tier VIII carrier to ensure that Honolulu will have a purpose for her AA suite.

Generalist Build: Captains focusing on making Honolulu have better main batteries will opt for Main Armaments Modification 1 for Slot 1 and Aiming Systems Modification 1 for Slot 3 to increase her accuracy.
