Dmitry Pozharsky — Soviet special premium Tier VIII cruiser.
Project 68-bis cruiser Dmitry Pozharsky was laid down in Leningrad at Ordzhonikidze Shipyard No. 189 in February 1952. The ship was launched in June 1953 and commissioned in December 1954. In February 1955, she was assigned to the Northern Fleet, but during the summer of the same year, the cruiser headed for Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to join the 14th Cruiser Division of the Pacific Fleet. In 1961, Dmitry Pozharsky joined the 9th Division of ASW Ships, and from 1967, she was on active duty within the 10th Tactical Squadron permanently operating in the Indian Ocean.
Dmitry Pozharsky was first released on 24 November 2023, as the reward for 8th and final directive of the Voyage to the North Pole combat mission chain.

Performance
Refer to the in-game Port screens for more useful data.
Tier VIII premium cruiser Dmitry Pozharsky is the first Soviet ship featuring exclusively AP ammunition. She offers solid damage output with British destroyer-style short duration smokescreens at the expense of radar. Altogether, Dmitry Pozharsky is an interesting alternative for those familiar with Soviet light cruisers.
Survivability & Maneuverability
Captains who have played Chapayev or Mikhail Kutuzov will be quite familiar with Dmitry Pozharsky’s armor layout. A 27 mm central deck will help to bounce guns of 380 mm or smaller, but overall she is susceptible to battleship AP with her 25 mm extremities. Pozharsky has an exposed above-water citadel, and is heavily punished when broadside. Her healthpool is fairly average at 40,700. She also has poor concealment for her tier, forcing captains to choose their engagements wisely due to her low survivability.
For a Russian ship, Dmitry Pozharsky features good maneuverability, identical to Mikhail Kutuzov. Her turning radius is decent, sitting at 760 m compared to Chapayev’s 890 m. She possesses one of the fastest rudder shifts in her tier, making Pozharsky a fairly agile ship compared to other Russian cruisers. However, her 33 knot top speed is only average for Tier VIII.
Armament & Consumables
Dmitry Pozharsky’s main battery consists of four triple 152 mm turrets, only capable of firing AP rounds with special characteristics. Her shells feature best-in-class penetration for their caliber, and preserve much of this penetration at longer ranges. With a max range of 18.1 km and excellent shell velocity, Pozharsky can be effective at most ranges. These shells also possess slightly improved ricochet angles, like on Tallinn, that are effective against angled enemies. Dmitry Pozharsky’s reload of 6.8 seconds provides good damage output, especially against broadside targets. However, her normal fuse time and arming threshold means many shells will overpenetrate the target’s superstructure, and is especially noticeable when fighting enemy destroyers with their thin plating and hulls.
Dmitry Pozharsky possesses the Smoke Generator consumable, but differs from those found on Smolensk and Mikhail Kutuzov. She uses a Short-Burst Smoke Generator , like the one found on British destroyers. Each smoke cloud lasts only 40 seconds compared to the 89 seconds found on other Russian smoke cruisers, with a slightly shorter action time. As compensation, Dmitry Pozharsky receives 4 charges of the consumable as opposed to the other ships’ 2, and it reloads in more than half the time. She also receives the Hydroacoustic Search consumable, but her utility is otherwise limited as she does not possess the Surveillance Radar usually found on Russian cruisers.
Gameplay
Captains familiar with Chapayev will find that Dmitry Pozharsky plays similarly for the most part. However, there are a few differences to her playstyle due to her unique characteristics. Generally, captains should face the enemy in a kiting position, with moderate ranges being the best. Here, players can mitigate most incoming damage while also still being able to effectively use Pozharsky’s main battery due to its excellent ballistics. However, against enemies that are pushing or retreating, much of Pozharsky’s damage output is reduced due to firing only AP. For this reason, it is useful to position oneself around teammates that can provide much needed HE fire against a target. That said, captains should seek out enemy broadsides more frequently than other cruisers to maximize the ship’s damage output. Slightly angled enemies are also valid targets, as Pozharsky’s improved ricochet angles can make quick work of them. Pozharsky works best as a support cruiser. Although her lack of useful utility precludes her from contesting capture points herself, she can provide solid gunfire support for any friendly destroyers that do. However, captains should be aware that her normal AP fuse time, unlike Edinburgh’s short fuse, means that many shells will overpenetrate enemy destroyers and deal minimal damage. Her smokescreen is best used for getting out of sticky situations or when the ship otherwise needs to go undetected, as its short duration means players will only get a few salvos off before it dissipates.
Generally, Dmitry Pozharsky presents a familiar but unique experience for veterans of Russian cruisers. She offers solid AP damage output, good ballistics and short duration smokescreens, but with the tradeoff of a fairly fragile hull and lacking the ability to set fires.Pros:
- Quick reload
- AP shells have good velocity
- Above average penetration
- Improved ricochet angles
- Good turning radius for a Russian ship
- Smoke Generator has numerous consumables, fast reload
Cons:
- Fragile armor, exposed citadel
- No HE shells
- AP shells lack reduced arming threshold or short fuse
- Short torpedo range
- Poor concealment
- Lacks radar of other Russian cruisers
- Smoke Generator disperses quickly
