Zorkiy — Soviet Tier ★ destroyer.
Project 47 was a design of 4500-ton destroyers that were to be constructed for the Soviet Navy after the completion of the Kiev class. They were intended to function as destroyer leaders and were designed to be faster and more heavily armed than their predecessors. Zorkiy was intended to be a 1950’s rearmament of the Project 47 design equipped with a modernized main battery, electronics suite, and torpedo tube set.

The Ship
Zorkiy is the Super Ship of the Russian gun boat destroyer line and continues the tradition of “Run and Gun” play style. She will immediately feel familiar to captains of Khabarovsk and Delny, as she retains the same hull but receives an improved rudder, increased AA defenses, and longer ranged torpedoes.
Like Delny, her hull is better protected than most destroyers. Her bow and stern and portions of her side are 19mm thick. Her turrets are 12mm thick. Her increased armor is concentrated on her deck and the majority of her side. The hull plating under her main battery and side plating from superstructure to rear torpedo tubes is 50mm thick. This is enough to bounce any AP shells and can shatter HE from many cruisers. Most of her deck is 25mm thick and can shatter most destroyer HE shells and prevent overmatch from AP shells up to 380mm.
Zorkiy has a base speed of 43 knots with a 760m turning circle. Her rudder shift is 8 seconds and hitpool is 23,600. The hit point total can be further increased to 27,450 with Survivability Expert. Her base detectability is 9.7km which can be brought down to 8.7 km using Concealment Expert or Concealment System Modification 1 or to 7.9 km if both are taken.
Armament
Zorkiy uses 130 mm/60 BL-109A guns, an improved version of the guns found on Delny with excellent shell velocity and flat firing arcs. Zorkiy has eight main main battery guns arranged in four twin mounts, two fore and two aft, with access to HE and AP shells. Her HE shell deals 1900 damage with a 10% fire chance. Her AP shell deals 2600 damage and has enough penetration to citadel lightly armored cruisers at close ranges. Her base reload is 5.3 seconds, slightly slower than Delny, with average HE and AP damage per minute values compared to other Tier X and Super destroyers.
Like other Russian destroyers, ‘’Zorkiy’’ can easily engage targets at her maximum firing range using her excellent shell velocity and firing arcs. Her firing arcs are identical to Delny’s, decent at most angles and especially toward the rear. Her base firing range is 12.3km, average for destroyers but too low for her style of play, and she cannot take the Gun Fire Control System Modification 2 upgrade in her 6th upgrade slot. Captains should take Main Battery and AA Expert to increase it to 14.8km. The most notable feature of her main battery is her access to the burst fire ability. ‘’Zorkiy’s’’ burst fire allows her main battery to be fired 3 times in 1 second intervals with a 50 percent increase to HE shell penetration. With burst fire enabled her HE penetration increases from 22mm to 33mm, enough to penetrate the hulls of most cruisers and the bow and stern of battleships. After using the burst fire ability she must wait 40 seconds before being able to fire again.
Combat Capability - Alternative Firing Mode
Requirements:
Burst fire can be toggled on and off at will.Effects:
- HE shell armor penetration capacity: +50%
- Reload time: 40 seconds
- Interval between individual shots: 1 second
- Number of bursts in a series: 3
She carries 2 quintuple torpedo launchers. Unlike Dalarna and Yamagiri she does not have access to Alternative Torpedoes and only has one type of torpedo that she can launch. Her torpedoes have a speed of 60 knots and a range of 10 km. With a reload time of 131 seconds and 14,400 damage per torpedo they serve as effective weapons against all but the largest and healthiest battleships.
Consumables
Zorkiy carries the same consumables as Delny: Damage Control Party , the option of Smoke Generator or Repair Party , and Engine Boost . Most captains of Zorkiy will choose to use the Repair Party over the Smoke Generator given her typical run and gun style of play. Her Repair Party heals up to 14% of her HP. Its effectiveness can be increased using the India Delta flag or Survivability Expert to increase the amount of HP healed back or by using Superintendent to give an additional charge. Her Engine Boost consumable will increase her speed by 8%, from 43 knots to 47 knots. This speed can make her a difficult target to hit at range for ships that have lofty shell arcs. While she does have a Smoke Generator that can be used in exchange for her heal it is generally not recommended to take due to her style of play and being fairly short in duration.
Anti-Aircraft
Zorkiy carries short, mid, and long range anti-aircraft armament. Her short ranged AAA continuous damage is 35 with a range of 3.1km. Her mid ranged AAA continuous damage is 126 with a range of 4 km. Her long ranged AAA continuous damage is 140 and produces six flak bursts which can deal 1820 damage. Her AAA damage is not amazing but not completely ignorable either. Her best weapon against aircraft is whittling down incoming planes by focusing AA sectors while dodging attacks.
Battle Performance
Zorkiy is the apex of the endurance run and gun style Russian Destroyer line. Her strengths at long range are easily apparent. Battleships and large cruisers are easy to lead and hit at any range thanks to high velocity and flat firing arcs. Agile light cruisers and destroyers are more difficult to hit at range, but experienced captains will still be able to damage them. Her small profile and excellent top speed make her a frustrating target to hit at range with all but the fastest shells. Captains should use her speed and firepower as much as possible. She excels in large open areas where she can take full advantage of her speed and maintain fire on targets that are not focusing on her or find it too difficult to return fire. When firing from afar, Burst Fire can be used to quickly set targets on fire that recently used their Damage Control Party.
In most cases it is best to keep her away from enemy vessels larger than a destroyer. However if a captain is bold, they can rush into close range of a light cruiser or a destroyer before unleashing Burst Fire and quickly retreating to a safe distance. Properly executed this can remove significant amounts of HP from a DD or CL in short order. If a captain wishes to do this, they must be certain that the target will be spotted or be able to spot the target and retreat safely as her concealment is poor.
Her armor and speed allow her to hunt most DDs caught without support. She can trade well with most DDs, even ones that have superior damage per minute, by shattering most HE shells on her hull armor and can chase weak DDs down with her speed . She can shrug off some mistakes using her Repair Party but it should not be heavily relied upon.. Her torpedoes have enough range to fire from stealth and can be used against targets unaware of her presence, but are better used against targets approaching her as her window to stealth launch her torpedoes is narrow.Pros:
- Thick side and deck plating able to shatter HE and bounce AP.
- Burst Fire ability, able to fire 3 salvoes in 3 seconds.
- Good firing angles making the guns and torpedoes comfortable to use.
- 10 km range for quintuple torpedo launchers
- High base speed at 43 knots.
Cons:
- Long rudder shift and large turn circle for a destroyer
- Poor concealment for a destroyer, 9.7 base and 7.9km at best
- Smoke Generator is rarely used as it must be taken in place of Repair Party
- Reliant on certain captain skills such as Main Battery and AA Expert
- Must wait 40 seconds to fire after using burst fire ability
Research
Optimal Configuration
Zorkiy should be tailored toward improving her firepower. As soon as possible her main gun range should be extended then her main battery reload brought down. Her torpedoes are less impactful and should hold less priority than her guns.
Upgrades
The recommended upgrades are:
- Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1
- Slot 2: Engine Room Protection or Engine Boost Modification 1
- Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1
- Slot 4: Propulsion Modification 1 or Steering Gears Modification 1
- Slot 5: Concealment System Modification 1 or Steering Gears Modification 2
- Slot 6: Main Battery Modification 3
In slot 5, Concealment System Modification 1 is recommended for the increase to enemy dispersion. More experienced players may opt for Steering Gears Modification 2 to help dodge incoming fire, but must remember Zorkiy's larger turning circle and resulting high surface detection.
Commander Skills
Zorkiy uses a playstyle that is almost the same as the remainder of the destroyers in the Russian Tech Tree and will use a very similar build. Below is a recommended build for Zorkiy and the Italian Tech Tree destroyers.
Consumables
Zorkiy equips the following consumables:
- Slot 1: Damage Control Party (Unlimited)
- Slot 2: Smoke Generator or Repair Party (3)
- Slot 3: Engine Boost (3)
