The Crusader was developed by Nuffield Mechanizations Ltd. from 1938 through 1940. More than 5,300 vehicles were mass-produced from 1941 through 1943. They were most extensively used in the North African сampaign in 1941–1942.

This tank is for people who prefer speed over firepower and armor. Stock, this is a fast, but terribly armored and armed tank. After the turret and gun upgrade, it is slightly stronger,

with a higher DPM, but still horribly inadequate in tank duels with any other tier 5 tank. To succeed on the battlefield, use your speed to scout, or get to a good sniping point, where you can use your high RPM with any of the guns besides the howitzer, to hack away at the enemy tanks, secure your team a victory, and walk away with a confederate medal.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Very good maneuverability
  • High RPM
  • Short aiming time for 2 and 6 pounder
  • All-around sloped armor

Cons:

  • Bad armor
  • Very weak damage for best gun [ max 112 damage, though this is almost never achieved.]
  • low penetration for all guns
  • Very weak howitzer [47mm penetration, and only 250 alpha damage.]

Performance

This tank is fast, with a high DPM on the 6 and 2 pounder guns, but it has bad armor, and about 96 damage per-shot, so don't go fighting heavy, or even some medium tanks. as being the only tier 5 light tank, it suffers severely. Also, it is relatively fast for its tier so tank destroyers are an easy target if you can get around them without getting shot. The best way to view your roll in battle is to try to become a mobile assassin. The key to light tanks is that there is no reduction in their ability to be spotted when they are on the move. If you position your tank behind a bush and you are not spotted by the enemy, this fact will remain even if you keep the tank rolling back and forth. Remember; when the spotting lightbulb comes on, you already have appeared on the enemy's screen. Keep your tank moving. If you sit still and are spotted, it will be easier to target you in those few seconds before you are warned--it is better to always be in motion if you wish to play light tanks well. Conserve your hit points and try to spot for your team in the early moments of the game, keep moving and always watch your mini-map. As the game develops seek out distracted enemy tanks and exploit your roll as the mobile assassin to punish the enemy for not keeping track of your positon. If you take your time and learn how to perform well in a light tank in this mid-tier tank, you will be able to truly turn the tide of battle in the upper tier light tanks. Study the view ranges of every tank you will face in the game, learn how to back up when you are spotted, or always stay on the edges of a tank's spotting range and you often will deal damage to tanks that have no idea where you are on the map.

Early Research

  • Prioritise geting mk.3 turret and 6 pounder gun
  • Buy tracks before new engine.
  • Do not buy 3-in Howitzer, as it is very weak.

Historical Info

Designed as the cruiser mk.IV using the Christie suspension, but had 5 wheels on each side instead of 4. It was born form the failure of the Covenanter and used a a better engine and running gear, with new 6 pounder gun, and was a very important tank of the desert wars of 1941-42. but was put out of production in late 1941, because its thin armor and 6 pounder gun where completely inadequate when fighting later models of the Panzer IV and Tiger. The crusader lived on as a gun carriage, a repair tractor, AA vehicle etc.
