This tank preforms well when it can face enemy heavies head on. By angling it's 200mm thick front armor, it can bounce almost anything. However, it is vulnerable from the side and rear, this should be kept in mind. The front is also not completely invincible, as there are a couple of obvious weak spots, capable of being penetrated by anything the Tiger (P) can meet. These include the cupola, the hull cheeks and the lower glacis. Proper care must be taken to cover these weak spots or make them hard to be shot at. This tank preforms well when it can face enemy heavies head on. It will take a long time to reach that top speed, and easily lose it when turning. The Tiger (P) also drops to a painstakingly slow speed when climbing slopes. On May 26, 1941, Adolf Hitler ordered Ferdinand Porsche and the Henschel company to develop prototypes of a new heavy tank. The prototypes were shown to the Führer on April 20, 1942. Manufacturing began, but the production run was cut short due to the complexity of the tank's drive and control systems, and a shortage of the required copper. Later, 90 produced hulls were converted into Ferdinand tank destroyers.

The Tiger (P) is a German tier 7 heavy tank

The Tiger (P) is a good all-around heavy tank. It's ability to mount the long 88mm gun allows it to penetrate most tier 7 heavies without a problem, and makes it competitive with Tier 8 heavies. It's frontal armor is double that of the Tiger, and the turret face is a little bit stronger. It's hull and turret are slow to turn, so beware of fast mediums.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Thickest frontal armor in tier 7, almost immune to frontal fire if angled correctly.
  • Powerful 88mm gun can take down Tier 7 and 8 targets easily.
  • Good penetration and accuracy for a Tier 7 heavy tank
  • Deep health pool.

Cons:

  • Slower than the Henschel Tiger (Tiger I).
  • Very slow hull and turret traverse, easily flanked by fast mediums.
  • Side and rear armor is paper thin.
  • Covered in obvious weak spots

Performance

This tank preforms well when it can face enemy heavies head on. By angling it's 200mm thick front armor, it can bounce almost anything. However, it is vulnerable from the side and rear, this should be kept in mind. The front is also not completely invincible, as there are a couple of obvious weak spots, capable of being penetrated by anything the Tiger (P) can meet. These include the cupola, the hull cheeks and the lower glacis. Proper care must be taken to cover these weak spots or make them hard to be shot at.

The gun is rather average for its tier. The 8,8cm does have the second best penetration and best accuracy for its tier, but the damage and aim time is average at best. The DPM is also in the middle of the pack, out classed by the Tiger I, Black Prince and ARL 44.

The mobility is rather poor. Although it can reach an impressive top speed of 35 km/h, the power-to-weight ratio is pretty bad. It will take a long time to reach that top speed, and easily lose it when turning. The Tiger (P) also drops to a painstakingly slow speed when climbing slopes. The traverse is also slow, making the Tiger (P) vulnerable to fast tanks.

The Tiger (P) is a proper heavy tank, and is supposed to be play like one. Lead the charge and soak up damage with your armor (or hp) when you're top tier. Support other heavies when you're bottom-tier. The ability to lead a charge is something the Tiger I cannot do but this tank can, while both tanks can fulfill a support heavy role. Get to the front, angle yourself, and watch the Tiger (P) go to town on enemy tanks.

Early Research

  • The top engine and the first 8,8cm gun is already available from the VK 30.01(P)
  • You may already have the top 8,8cm gun from the Tiger I or the Jagdpanther
  • Get the top 8,8cm first; followed by the tracks and the turret
  • Enjoy the days of being a proper heavy tank before moving on to the VK 45.02 (A)
