The Gold Economy
World of Tanks has two types of currency: regular currency AKA Credits, which are earned by participating in battles; and premium currency, which is called Gold. Possession of Gold does not change game play or give players a decisive advantage in battles. Of course, that doesn't make Gold less essential. Usually, you can purchase it from here (NA server) or here (EU server), but there are a couple of ways to get it in-game, one of them being - participating in developer/moderator organized contests and events (Contests for NA server & Contests for EU server).
Getting the Gold
The easiest way to get gold is to purchase it.
If you play on the EU server, you can buy it here - [1]
No. | Gold amount | Price(EUR) | Price(GBP) |
---|---|---|---|
1. | 30000 | € 99.95 | £ 84.95 |
2. | 14500 | € 49.95 | £ 42.45 |
3. | 5500 | € 19.95 | £ 16.95 |
4. | 2500 | € 9.95 | £ 8.45 |
5. | 1500 | € 6.95 | £ 5.95 |
If you play on the NA server, you can buy it here - [2]
Gold bought for EU server can't be used on NA server and vice-versa.
No. | Gold amount | Price |
---|---|---|
1. | 25000 | $ 99.95 |
2. | 12000 | $ 49.95 |
3. | 6500 | $ 29.95 |
4. | 3000 | $ 14.95 |
5. | 1250 | $ 6.95 |
The RU server currently has an option to purchase a custom amount of Gold.
There will be other ways to obtain gold but none of these are available at the moment:
- A Clan can earn Gold for controlling provinces in Clan Wars.
- Mercenaries can be paid in gold for helping a Clan to win a province battle. However, a mercenary must first purchase a Mercenary License (for Gold), and the mercenary can not be a member of a Clan.
- You can buy and sell tank modules for either gold or credits.
Premium Account
The most important thing that Gold is used for is to buy subscription to the premium account. It gives 50% more credits and 50% more experience per battle, clean garage and the possibility of creating platoons. The best thing in that is getting 50% more credits. It is a better deal more than you'd think, as the profit after paying for repairs and ammo increases two- or threefold, depending on your performance in battle (amount of damage, destroyed tanks, base captured/defended, etc).
- The table below shows that keeping an account always at premium status would cost $10 US per month if you purchased the 25,000 gold package.
Extending Premium | ||
---|---|---|
Cost | Length | Days |
2,500 Gold | 1 month | 30 days |
1,250 Gold | 1 week | 7 days |
650 Gold | 3 days | 3 days |
250 Gold | 1 day | 1 day |
Premium Tanks
Gold can also be used to purchase Premium Tanks. Premium tanks already are at Elite Status and are great for earning credits, as they won't give you further expenses (other than repairs and ammunition) with additional modules and parts. Also, Premium tanks earn a bonus to both credits and experience. Overlord says
- " Balance coefficient
- It is a factor for individual setting of tank profitability. Payment for all vehicles, except premium, is multiplied by the coefficient W.
- The given coefficient for premium vehicles is higher."

Premium Ammo
Gold can also be used to buy premium ammo (or "Gold Rounds" or "Premium Rounds"). They have much a greater benefit than its regular counterpart, although they do tend to be rather expensive to use on a regular basis. Some players like to load a few just in case they meet something too big. All premium ammo is listed here. Premium Round's greatest advantage is not the damage itself, but the massive penetration boost.
Premium Consumables
Player can use gold to buy special consumables that have much better benefits than their regular counterpart. Premium consumables are listed here
Dismounting Equipment
Players now have the option to dismount non-demountable equipment (like "Rammer", "Coated Optics" and other) for 10 gold. More info listed here
Buying Credits
Players can use Gold to buy Credits. Each gold unit earns you 400 credits. During the beta period this was considered one of the worst ways to use Gold, and it's advisable to use it only as a last resort. Your mileage may vary. It is way more useful to buy premium subscription and earn twice the amount you convert, instead of wasting it on converting.
Convert Experience to Free Experience
Players with Elite Tanks (all premium have elite status) can convert the tank's regular experience to Free Experience at a rate of 25 exp converted per 1 gold. While expensive, this is a way to get a higher tiered vehicle quicker by playing a mid-tier vehicle and converting that experience to Free Experience. The extra credits earned at the profitable mid-tiers will help to buy the high tier tank quickly. Of course, you could just pile up some mid-tier tanks to get extra credits faster.
Perfect Crew
Players can pay 200 Gold to send a Crew Member to the Tank Academy. After training there he will come out with 100% skill level.
Bigger Garage
Players can pay 300 Gold to gain 1 additional slot in their Garage. And more tanks means more fun, right?
Bigger Barracks
Players can pay 300 Gold to increase the size of their barracks by 16 slots, to hold crew of tanks you have sold but might want back.
My Own Clan
Players can pay 2,500 Gold create their own Clan. After that, its just a matter of recruiting. Hmm, maybe there might be a bit more to it. Who knows?
