Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

• One of the fastest turning tech tree heavy fighters in tier 6.
• Top cannon can one-shot some tier V aircraft.
• Excellent at eliminating ground pounders
• Surprisingly fast compared to other Japanese aircraft

Cons:

• Tied for worst HP pool of tier 6 Heavy fighters with XP-54.
• Very vulnerable to fires
• Cannon has short range
• Terrible module durability

Performance

The Ki-102 is essentially a Ki-45 on steroids in terms of speed, survivability, and armament when fully upgraded. It is practically just as agile in a turn as its predecessor, however it gains access to one of the hardest hitting guns for its tier, and in fact many other tiers.

With the right equipment and crew skills, the 57mm cannon proves an extremely dangerous weapon, especially against bombers and GAAs, which this aircraft excels in destroying. However, the punch of this gun also makes it particularly useful for hammering smaller craft that are fairly stiff, or just swatting light fighters out of the way if the shell lands.

Keep in mind this firepower comes at a cost. The Ki-102 isn't particularly fast, and it is very fragile to hostile fire, much like a Zero is. Nurse your HP properly and avoid head on attacks with other heavy fighters. The Ki-102 can dogfight a surprising number of aircraft, but not all, pick targets carefully and know when to bail, or else be reduced to shreds of airframe.
