? +More of a fighter with rockets than a true multirole, the Yak-7 starts out suited for air-to-air combat with its 20mm autocannon and a pair of light machine guns. As one unlocks more weapons, the Yak-7 evolves more into a versatile plane that can deal with both air and ground targets at low altitude. The stock 20mm autocannon is a valid choice for players who prefer mid- to short-range air duels like an average fighter. Once the rockets and the 37mm autocannon is unlocked it can take on ground targets more reliably. The 37mm autocannon boasts massive damage per shot at long range, but is hampered by its quick overheating time and low rate of fire. This means the 37mm autocannon, while good at destroying ground targets, will take some practice to master when used against planes. Those who do are rewarded with a gun that can dispatch or cripple most planes at long- to mid-range. The Yak-7 possesses the typical strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet line; it performs well at low altitude (and only at low altitude) with good maneuverability for a multirole. However it is let down by poor energy retention when climbing and is prone to stalling at higher altitudes, leaving you little choice but to stay at lower altitudes. Overall the Yak-7 is a versatile aircraft that, with the right loadout, can deal with any threat and lends itself well as a support plane.
