Amagi — Japanese Tier VIII battleship.
With the outbreak of World War I, Japan started designing battlecruisers. Between 1916 and 1918, about 20 variants of a preliminary draft project were developed. As a result of the Washington Naval Conference, the construction of battleships was canceled, but Japan was allowed to convert two battlecruisers into aircraft carriers. The conversion of Amagi commenced in 1923, but the hull on the stocks of Yokosuka was destroyed by the Great Kantō earthquake.

Player Opinion
Performance
The Amagi is one ship at her tier you would be impressed with. Sporting five dual mount turrets with each packing a pair of 16 inch guns, the Amagi is literally unmatched in terms of raw broadside potential despite being a battlecruiser although to be fair, her upgraded hull retrofits and reformats her into a fast battleship much like what happens to her battlecruiser colleague that had a reformat the Kongo. Her main batteries and sound speed can match or destroy any late stage battleship and give cruisers something to be wary of when attempting to get close enough at effective firing range and despite having a sound AA suite, its generally recommended to have cruisers that have good AA suites themselves whenever there's a carrier or two in a match. The biggest catch with Amagi is the nonexistant armor, which allows for easy citadel hits if you don't react to enemy fire.
Pros:
- Unrivaled broadside potential of five dual mount turrets packing 16 inch guns
- Fast for a battleship
- Has a reputation for extremely accurate guns.
- AA suite is surprisingly sound
- Armor is surprisingly troll when you angle or face frontally.
Cons:
- Torpedo bulge is very poor, especially in her stock 1923 hull
- Shorter firing range compared to her tier 8 battleship colleague, the North Carolina, and even cruisers can out-range her.
- Rudder shift feels slightly sluggish
- Uses the same gun as from the Nagato, which means POOR penetration in its tier, but at least 2 x 5 configuration gives her more firepower.
- Main batteries often gets knocked out
