Bayern — German Tier VI battleship.
In 1910, it became apparent that the caliber of guns on upcoming battleships of Great Britain, the U.S., and other countries would exceed 305 mm. In view of this, Germany started developing a potential counter to these ships. After a period of study and discussion, a design for a ship armed with eight 380 mm guns in four turrets was approved. The lead ship of the series, SMS Bayern, engaged in patrolling and raiding activities during World War I; however, her only combat mission was Operation Albion, which aimed at occupying the Moonsund Archipelago, then under the control of the Russian Army and fleet.

Player Opinion
Performance
The last dreadnought for the Imperial German Navy, Bayern stands at her piece as the end-stage of the transition. She represents the best of what the Kaiserliche Marine had ever wanted for their "linienschiff" dreadnoughts: tough-as-nails, packs good offensive power, and fast for a dread, adding the fact she is very potent when in terms of solid built dreadnoughts at her tier.
Within this dread contains a belt significantly stronger than her American colleague New Mexico and much stronger than the Fuso, though the deck might be questionable, but her offensive armaments rival that of the tier 6 premium battleship Warspite in terms of gun caliber and ballistics with the German gun firing several tics faster. At a glance, Bayern may not look like much compared to her peers but she excels in enduring in order to get close enough to deal damage herself.Pros:
- Good set of guns
- Good armor layout (only the belt armor connecting to the turtleback and the lower fore and aft end belt)
- Impressive range with the GFCS alone
- Same gun caliber as Warspite (only smaller by a single mm)
- Good shell velocity
- High volume secondaries with decent range
- Fast compared to other dreads
- Good turning circle
Cons:
- The stock WW1 hull does not have AA; players may be subject to aerial assaults with impunity
- Does not have a catapult to launch spotter planes or defensive fighters
- Slow turret traverse
- Low AP Penetration despite good shell velocity
- Armor is somewhat lacking in areas other than the lower fore and aft end and armor belt.
